Look for Mentoring/Coaching

• Learning is an active process. We learn by doing. Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind. — Dale Carnegie

• A fallacy I see among some professionals is to think that once you are certified you now know everything about the industry you are working in.

• You will need to actively seek out experts in your field and engage with them daily to learn from them and build up your real-world knowledge.

• Mentoring/Coaching can be done formally or informally, physically or virtually. Find out what works best for you!

Networking Tips!

• Networking is key to increasing your networth

• Who do you hang with?

• Where do you hang out?

• Ensure you are connecting regularly with industry players via your leisure activities-Football, golfing, tennis, swimming etc Attend networking meetings, seminars, webinars, conferences, congresses etc

• Step out of your comfort zone and connect with more people regularly.

Contd.

• Only 5 to 25 percent of jobs are advertised, so you canfind out about all the unadvertised openings only through talking to as many people as possible and telling them you are looking for a job.

• Don't go anywhere without copies of your resume and business cards or networking cards. Youcan keep your resume in your car or briefcase, but be sure you can access it easily if you meetsomeone who could pass your resume along to a hiring manager.

• Do come up with a system for organizing your network contacts, whether a spreadsheet on yourcomputer, a file box of index cards, a three-ring binder, or whatever works for you.

Smart techniques for your job hunt

• Always have your Elevator Speech ready, yes this is not only for business owners. You should be able to explain in 1 sentence to someone what exactly you offer and what problems you solve.

• What is your next job and what will the résumés of the competitors for that job look like? Do you need “digital” on your résumé? Do you need “data science” or some other crossover job that bridges the gap between the traditional way your job function has been done and the way it is done (or going to be done) at your next job?

• Create an online resume that stands out using https://www.visualcv.com/so that recruiters can access your C.V at their own time and contact you. Employers spend on average 6 seconds reviewing each resume. A resume that grabs their attention is the difference between an interview and the recycling bin. Create a resume that stands out.

• Create your own body of work. Start blogging. Create a body of knowledge that sets you apart from your peers as an expert in your area. Post a minimum of once weekly. The quality of your writing is more important than the quantity of posts. Take the most common problems faced by the people who might hire you and demonstrate (through your writing) that you are the best person to help solve them.
