Darren Donnelly, Partner, Clark Wilson LLP, Vancouver, BC. Darren is Chair of his firm’s Commercial Real Estate Group, and has direct experience with a variety of real estate development issues and circumstances including major rezonings, mixed-use developments, strata titled hotel offerings, air space subdivision, builders liens, amalgamation of strata corporations, seniors housing, water lots, local and international marketing of British Columbia projects, urban

and rural bare-land subdivision, insolvency and public-private partnerships. He also acts frequently on commercial real estate transactions including the purchase, sale and financing of office, retail, apartment and hotel properties, on behalf of a range of owners, from individuals and syndications to institutional investors. Darren led the development of CWRealEstate.ca (formerly known as BCRELinks.com), a valuable resource and service for the local real estate industry. Darren appears in the current Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading lawyer in the area of property development.

FacultySarah Batut, Associate, Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, Vancouver, BC. Sarah is an associate in the Business Group at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin in Vancouver. She has comprehensive experience in real estate transactions including acquisitions and sales, subdivisions (including airspace subdivisions), development of mixed-use, commercial and residential projects, and commercial leasing. Sarah also has experience in various corporate and commercial practices.

Sarah is an executive member of the Vancouver Bar association and is a member of the Vancouver Commercial Real Estate Woman (CREW).

John Doolan, Partner, McCarthy Tétrault LLP, Vancouver, BC. Mr. Doolan practises in his firm’s Real Property & Planning Group and is co-head of its National Environmental, Regulatory & Aboriginal Group. Mr. Doolan’s experience includes advising on major projects and infrastructure development, structuring transactions, acquisitions and dispositions, partnerships and joint ventures, financing, real estate development, and leasing. He has considerable knowledge

and experience in Aboriginal law, including with respect to project development, relationships with First Nations, land tenures, and transactions and commercial agreements involving First Nations. He represents business enterprises and acts for First Nations and First Nation groups on economic development matters. Mr. Doolan acts for the Tsawwassen First Nation on structuring, planning, economic development and leasing matters in the implementation of its 2009 treaty and for the First Nations Tax Commission on the proposed new First Nations Property Ownership legislation. He is recognized as a leading lawyer in Aboriginal Law in Canada for 2015 by Chambers & Partners, and is included in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading lawyer in the areas of Aboriginal law and property development, and as one of “Canada’s Leading Infrastructure Lawyers” in the October 2011 Lexpert special edition.

David Longcroft, Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Vancouver, BC. David is the National Practice Group Leader of his firm’s Commercial Real Estate Group. His practice includes institutional investment transactions, hotel management matters, industrial infrastructure projects and mixed use developments. David’s wide range of clients include national and local developers, publicly listed real estate companies, institutional investors, securities underwriters and mining,

forestry and railway companies. He has developed considerable expertise in specialized areas of real estate law, including the use of air space parcel subdivisions in the context of mixed use projects. David has been actively involved in the Vancouver CBA Real Property Subsection and the Urban Land Institute, and has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.

Matthew Swanson, Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Vancouver, BC. Matthew’s practice covers all aspects of corporate, commercial and civil litigation, including contracts, real estate, construction and franchise litigation. Matthew has appeared as lead counsel in trials, summary trials, commercial arbitrations and mediations. He has acted for some of British Columbia’s and Canada’s leading companies, including real estate developers and brokerages, landlords, franchisors and

financial institutions, as well as companies involved in all levels of the construction industry. Matthew is a frequent author and speaker. He has published in BC Business, Building.ca, the Journal of Commerce, On-Site: Canada’s Construction Magazine and The International Council of Shopping Centers publications. He is the co-author of the Development Marketing chapter of CLE of BC’s British Columbia Real Estate Development Practice Manual. Matthew has also appeared as a guest lecturer at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law.

Shauna Towriss, Partner, Clark Wilson LLP, Vancouver, BC. Shauna’s practice involves assisting clients in the areas of real estate acquisitions, dispositions and financing, commercial real estate development, and assisting various private entities to raise equity through offering memoranda in limited partnership and trust structures for a variety of investment and development projects. Shauna provides advice to clients on an ongoing basis with respect to corporate structuring, incorporations

and reorganization, and assists with the negotiation and drafting of a wide variety of corporate agreements. Shauna is a member of the Urban Development Institute, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, Vancouver Chapter and the Association of Women in Finance. She is a Director and Secretary of the Tyee Club of British Columbia and President and Director of the Hooplaw Charitable Foundation.

Peeter Wesik, President, Wesgroup Properties, Vancouver, BC. Peeter is the President of Wesgroup Properties, a long term holder and developer of industrial, commercial and office properties. He has a B.A. and a B.Law from UBC and previously practised law as a partner at Russell & DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau DuMoulin). Peeter is involved in numerous industry associations including the Urban Development Institute where he served as Director and Past Chair.

Patrick Williams, Partner, Clark Wilson LLP, Vancouver, BC. Patrick practises in his firm’s Strata Property and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Groups, with a focus on assisting strata corporations and developers with dispute resolution. He is an experienced and qualified arbitrator and mediator who has managed numerous strata property, real estate and construction disputes. Patrick has written and published many articles on issues impacting the strata property industry, including construction

related problems experienced by owners, property managers and developers. He is a regular contributor to the industry periodicals and regularly delivers presentations and seminars to industry groups, strata corporations and property managers. Jean Yuen, Shareholder, Boughton Law Corporation, Vancouver, BC. Jean practises primarily in the area of Aboriginal Law, with a special emphasis on First Nations economic development. She has extensive experience in dealing with land issues arising under the Indian Act, First Nations Land Management Act, the Sechelt Indian Band Self-Government Act and certain treaty First Nations legislation.
