We are based in Waldkirch and Denzlingen– that’s to the north of Freiburg, right in thetriangle where the German, French andSwiss borders meet. 2008 marks our com-pany’s 60th anniversary.

In 1948 the metalworking factory Anton HummelMetallwarenfabrik was set up. It manu-factured form-turned pieces and otherparts for electrical, heating and sanitaryinstallations.

In 1970HUMMEL branched out into plastics tech-nology.

In 1987a fully automatic electroplating line wasinstalled.

In 1995HUMMEL was split into various divisions.

1994 to 2005saw subsidiaries and branches being setup in Hungary, China, Italy, Brazil, Russiaand the UK.

Multi-zone controllers

The MULTI 6 controller series is available in practical 6-zone steps.Its modular design with independent slide-in controller slots ensuresfast replacement in case of malfunction.

Perfect ease of use and a straightforward display showing all instan-taneous and setpoint values guarantee the smooth integration of the-se controllers into the production processes.

The alarm indicators only light up in case of error or malfunction.This allows to check the operating state of the hot runner system ata glance.

Due to the presetting of the system’s basic parameters by the facto-ry, time-consuming configuration is not necessary – the unit is imme-diately ready for use. The mold memory enables you to store thesettings for all of the hot runner molds and access these programsby a touch of the button.

A solid metal housing with powerful cooling fans allows continuousoperation at maximum load even under extreme operating conditi-ons. The rear panel features separate connectors for the load andthermocouples, the power switch, interface and alarm connectors.

The temperature can be increased or decreased externally by thealarm cable connecting the controller to the control system of themachine. In case of malfunction, the controller stops the machineimmediately.

Professional controllers

The PROFESSIONAL controller series has been designed for con-trolling multi-cavity molds, thus satisfying the highest qualitydemands. In addition, extensive diagnostic and log functions areavailable that greatly facilitate testing and starting up complexhot runner molds.

PC-based operation with a touch-screen panel ensures maximumoperator convenience, thanks also to a clearly arranged displayand optimal user guidance. If space is scarce, the control panelcan be separated from the controller.

All parameter settings can be stored and managed convenient-ly in the system’s memory, which provides extensive storage anddisplay options.

All production process parameters (as well as potential errors)are recorded and documented most clearly.

These controllers are available in 12-zone steps, each dozenbeing wired to a 24-pole load connector and a 32-pole sensorconnector (HAN A). Slide-in modules complete with a 16-amperepower unit ensure fast replacement in case of malfunction.

Professional control unit LC

The LC series differs from the TEMP STAR PROFESSIONAL unitwith touch screen by employing a cost-effective production dis-play for use in extremely demanding production environments.The rugged membrane keyboard with bright LEDs allows easysetting of all production parameters. The unit is equipped withan individual error indicator for each control zone.

An optional software is available for wiring testing, starting ofnew molds, mold data management or troubleshooting. This soft-ware can be installed on any PC or notebook with Windows®,giving the user access to all the same functions as on the touch-screen equipped unit, however, by using a mouse instead of atouch-screen.

A communication port on the back of the unit allows connectionof the production display or a PC / notebook, even while the unitis running.

In case of a malfunction, service-friendly control cards for 6zones each can be replaced without any tools. The units are builtfor 48 to 96 zones.

The DIALOG series combines all of the advantages of the classical, sin-gle slide-in controller with the central handling afforded by a multi-zonecontroller. Available controller housings (see page 18) can be equippedwith just the number of slide-in modules actually needed, plus a centralcontrol unit if required. Unneeded slots simply remain empty and can berefitted at any time.

The integrated 16-ampere (3.600 watt) power unit allows fast and easymodule replacement, without the need to open the housing or disconnectany cables!

The DIALOG central control unit fits into any empty slot of the housingand allows central adjustment of any number of slide-in modules. Allfunctions can be accessed and controlled either directly by the controlmodule or the central control unit.

The front panel buttons guarantee easy operation. Both the instantane-ous and setpoint values are permanently displayed. In addition, the set-point window allows to display the instantaneous output power either inamperes or percent.

Ground fault, temperature deviation, overcurrent and sensor error aremonitored and indicated separately for each control module. Togetherwith the programmable soft-start function, the DIALOG series thus provi-des optimal protection for the connected hot runner system.

Basic control unitThis compact unit is designed to provide temperature control of a load circuit. It is suitable for load currents up to 10 A. The control unit is powered through a 230 VAC mains plugwith protective earth.

The unit is operated via buttons on the front panel, where theinstantaneous and setpoint values are constantly displayed. Thedisplay for the setpoint can also be used to indicate the outputpower in either amperes or percent. Manual operation, standbyand boost functions can be directly accessed via front panel buttons.

For highest possible protection of the hot runner, all possible malfunctions, like ground fault, temperature deviations, overcur-rent and sensor breakage are constantly monitored and instantly indicated. Additional protection is provided by the programmable soft-start function.

The back side of the rugged metal housing holds two 4-pole connectors for load and thermocouple, the load circuit fuse and the unit's main switch.

Slide-in controllers

Our SINGLE slide-in controllers allow you to fit an empty housing(see page 18) with just the number of slide-in modules actuallyneeded. Empty slots can be refitted later if necessary.

The integrated 16-ampere (3.600-watt) power unit ensures fastand easy module replacement, without the need to open the hou-sing or disconnect any cables!

Each slide-in module features a display that indicates continuous-ly the instantaneous and setpoint values. The setpoint can beadjusted directly with the plus (+) and minus (–) buttons of thedecade switch. To operate the controller, no more than four frontpanel buttons are required. One of them switches the controlleron/off, the remaining buttons serve to access and select thevarious operating modes. In programming mode, the same but-tons are used for parameter setting.

The alarm indicators light up only in case of error or malfuncti-on. This allows to check the operating state of the hot runner sys-tem at a glance. Ground fault, sensor error, over- / low tempe-rature and overcurrent are indicated separately.

Housings for slide-in controllersThese elegant and solid metal housings can be fitted with slide-in modules of both the SINGLE and DIALOG controllerseries.

The slots can be filled with any number of controller modules.Unused slots have to be covered with a cover plate and can berefitted later if necessary. Thus, the user gets a highly flexible system that can be adapted perfectly to individual requirements.

As all controllers come with integrated power units, replacingmodules or adding new ones is just a matter of seconds, withoutthe need to open the housing or disconnect any cables! This minimizes down time in case of malfunction.

The rear panel features separate connectors for the load and thethermocouples, the alarm and interface connectors, and the loadcircuit fuses.

The temperature can be decreased externally by the alarm cableconnecting the controller to the control system of the machine. In case of malfunction, the controller stops the machine immediately. The standard data interface can be used for remote control or logging tasks.

Highest possible mold security

This optical mold security works by scanning the mold surface.By visibly scanning the parting line, the emitters reliably detect any parts, ejector pins or cobwebs. Even extreme-ly thin or transparent parts can be monitored with high reliability.

The simple design and the user-friendly, menu-guided operationvia control buttons on the front panel of the slide-in controllers provide numerous control possibilities.

Main unit: Rugged yet elegant housing for up to two slide-in con-trollers, each capable of operating two light barriers. Connectoron rear panel for sensors and for connector cables to machineor interface box.

Slide-in controllers: Microprocessor-controlled sensor evaluationfor two light barriers. Plugs into main unit, complete with membrane keyboard for calibration and for selection of opera-tional mode.

Laser emitter: Emits visible red beam. The focused laser spot canbe used to directly aim at the part or receiver.

Receiver: Is mounted to the side of the mold opposite of the emitter.
