Albert Einstein once said: “Weakness of attitude be-comes weakness of character”.

Seemingly a very clever quote and one of great rel-evance to us in hummel, especially if we forget that the same Mr. Einstein at a later point stated that all a man (and a woman I guess) needs to be happy is a table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin. The notion of having character, daring to stand out and doing things differently as well as being one is something that we value highly at hummel.

This to the point that we changed our company payoff to “Character since 1923” two years ago. Moreover, our mission statement points out that we target people as well as teams with character. Many of the people and teams that we sponsor are within handball, a sport that runs through our veins and has done so since we made our fi rst handball shoe in the late 1920es. People we sponsor are the likes of Florian Kehrmann, Lars Christiansen, Mimi Kraus and Joachim Boldsen. Guys with a lot of character, guys who do their own thing.

For our latest collection that you see presented in this catalogue we have integrated our character concept to an even further degree with each footwear model having its own character.

Last year we made a vow at hummel. We wanted to take ownership of doing for handball what has hap-pened to football during the last 10 or so years where football has become a sport that transcends cultural, national and religious borders. We are looking to in-fuse some of football’s rock ’n’ roll, sexiness, edge and character into handball.

We hope that we will get closer to fulfi lling our hand-ball mission with this collection and the Characters campaign that will follow it.

There are days with sunshine and days with rain. There are two sides to every story. There is good and evil in all of us. Appearances are often deceiving. What appears to be good on the outside might be the opposite on the inside. When you scratch the nice and clean surface, the devil is lurking. We are all characters in the game of life - in the game of handball. When entering the court handball players can go from being domestic to dangerous in a split second – instant conversion.

This is called change of character. And that is what the hum-mel Characters campaign is all about.
