HISTORY OF HOT LINE TOOLS

HOT LINE BEGAN IN 1913 WITH WOODEN STICKS TO CARRY OUT THE WORKS.

LIGHT WEIGHT AND STRONG TOOLS INTRODUCED IN 1937

IN MID 1950 A. B. CHANCE COMPANY AND RITZ COMPANY INTRODUCED EPOXY GLASS TOOLS AS PER IS.

NATURE OF WORKS CARRIED BY HOT LINE DIVISION.

THE HOT LINE MAINTENANCE WORK IS A HIGHLY SKILLED WORK INVOLVING LIFE RISK OF OPERATING PERSONNEL

THE WORK IS CARRIED OUT ON THE CHARGED EHV SYSTEM WITHOUT AVAILING LINE CLEAR AND

WITHOUT AFFECTING POWER SUPPLY. THERE BY AVODING LOSS OF IMAGE TO KPTCL AND

INCONVENIENCE TO PUBLIC. THUS FINACIALLY BENIFITTING KPTCL. THE NORMAL WORKS CARRIED OUT BY ADOPTING TO

LIVELINE MAINTENACE TECHNIQUE USING HOT STICK METHOD ARE.

MEASUREMENT OF CLEARANCE OF BUILDINGS/ROAD FROM EHV LINE CONDUCTORS

TESTING OF INSULATORS OF EHV LINES UNDER CHARGED CONDITION FOR IDETIFYING FAULTY INSULATORS. FAULTY INSULATORS ARE MAINLY RESPONSIBLE FOR TRIPPING OF EHV LINES DURING MONSOON AND EARLY MORNING MIST.

REPLACEMENT OF FAULTY INSULATOR STRINGS WITHOUT AVAILING LINE CLEAR.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE WORKS SUCH AS TIGHTEINING OF LOOSE CONECTIONS IN THE SUB-STATIONS AND JUMPER CONNECTIONS IN EHV LINES

THERMIVISION SCANNING OF ODS OF SUB-STATIONS TO IDENTIFY HOT SPOTS. HOT SPOTS ARE DUE TO LOOSE CONTACTS AND CAUSE BREAK DOWN DURING PEAK LOAD HOURS.

PROVDING BYEPASS JUMPERS TO RED HOT SPOTS TO AVOID TOTAL BREAK DOWN OF POWER SUPPLY IN PEAK LOAD HOURS.
