MEOS Call for Papers | 2

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the programme committee, we are delighted to invite you to attend the SPE Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference (MEOS) that will be held 15–18 March 2021 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The year 2020 is a tough year for humankind as our resolve is tested while dealing with the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. The oil and gas industry has taken a massive and unprecedented hit during this time. As people were forced to go into lockdown, the demand for hydrocarbon declined and so did the prices. Facing and overcoming these challenging circumstances made us, as an industry, stronger and more resilient than ever. Tough times, however unpleasant they may be, offer great opportunities for innovative solutions. As we move forward, we can’t escape the role technology has played in our lives during the pandemic period. It kept the world in touch and wheels of the economies rolling.

WELCOME LETTER FROM THE PROGRAMME CHAIRS

The oil and gas industry thrives on technology advancement to cope with new challenges, a reality we have witnessed during the past years. The MEOS 2021 technical programme reflects how the oil and gas industry has embraced the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) in all aspects of its business and the role it is playing in shaping the future.

As we look towards the future, we are certain that our reliance on digital transformation will increase as we incorporate it into every aspect of our work. This will soon be a reality from the office to the rig. The MEOS 2021 programme will also feature aspects of sustainability and environmental stewardship. This is where our industry leads the conversation on the carbon footprint of fossil fuels and spring towards climate resiliency and net-zero emissions.

The MEOS 2021 edition provides a unique opportunity to learn, share, and exchange ideas and solutions on how to adopt the following in one of the toughest periods in

recent world history. We invite you to submit abstracts on topics related to exploration, reservoir, production, drilling, completion, facilities, 4IR technologies, human resources, health, safety, security, and environment. In addition, we are happy to introduce new topics in MEOS 2021 this year including: midstream gas, carbon footprint management, and business continuity through challenging times.

We look forward to your participation to share and exchange ideas, and expand our network for the betterment of our industry and the world we live in.

Technical and ePoster presentations for the conference will be selected from paper proposals submitted to the Programme Committee.

The Programme Committee will consider all abstracts submitted by the extended deadline of 31 August 2020.

Early submission is particularly important to ensure that the committee members have ample time to review the paper proposals. Late paper proposals will not be accepted.

Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their paper proposals electronically at the MEOS 2021 website: www.meos-expo.com

ABSTRACT CONTENT

A proper review of your abstract requires that it contains an adequate information on which to make a judgement. Written in English and containing 450 words, paper proposals should include the following:

• Title: provide a short and informative title with familiar terms. Enter a title that is concise, yet descriptive of the primary content and application of the proposed paper.
