About ABC AwardsEstablished in 1998, ABC Awards (ABC) is the result of combining more than 180 years of regional examination and assessment practices into one national Awarding Organisation. As a registered charity we are continuing the tradition of our founding organisations who were established by the sector to deliver useful and practical qualifications whilst off ering exceptional support and ABC is proud to still be “owned” by the sector and working for the sector.

ABC off ers an outstanding range of vocational qualifications which reflect the skills that employers and centres look for in learners and employees. At ABC, we recognise the importance of continuing to off er not only a wide range and breadth of qualifications, but just as significantly, excellent customer support.

An Experienced and Knowledgeable TeamOur friendly and responsive approach to customers means all our centres have access to a dedicated Qualification Administrator as well as unlimited access to a Business Development Manager who can answer any queries or concerns you might have. Our Moderators are all subject specialists and are chosen by us for their experience, knowledge and ability to support centres to deliver ABC’s qualifications successfully.

A Wide Range of QualificationsOur portfolio or more than 600 Ofqual regulated qualifications cover 14 sec-tors with qualifications to suit all ages and abilities. We have designed all ABC qualifications with the support of relevant stakeholders to make sure that they meet the needs of the current industries across the UK. This means that the qualifications are designed to give learners the skills needed to find employ-ment, progress within education or enhance their skills in their current job role. We have more than 1200 centres with many tens of thousands of certificates being issued each year.

HorticultureHorticulture is a broad and diverse industry employing thousands of people a year across the Landbased sector. As the horticulture industry is one of the largest employers in the UK, ABC Awards’ has worked with industry specialists to produce relevant and significant qualifications. Our qualifications aim to give learners an insight into a range of careers, whilst allowing them to develop their knowledge within a chosen field.

These qualifications have been developed in collaboration with industry providers and Lantra. They will enable learners to gain appropriate skills and knowledge to progress to higher levels of learning or to employment in the land based sector.

Practical Countryside SkillsThe ABC Awards’ qualifications in Practical Countryside Skills provide practical experience and knowledge in a wide range of areas within the land based sector including, horticulture, animal care, environment and conservation and floristry. They will help learners to decide whether to undertake further training or employment within the landbased area.

The ABC qualifications in Practical Countryside Skills aim to:develop practical skills that will support those seeking a career in the horticultural • industryprovide knowledge and understanding that could support further study within the land • based sectorpromote and encourage good working practices in relation to safety and the • environment

They will help learners to decide whether to undertake further training or employment within this occupational area.

The ABC qualifications in Practical Horticulture Skills (Landscaping) aim to:gain work-related skills in the area of horticulture• develop generic employability skills• prepare for further training within this occupational area• gain an insight into core activities within this occupational area in order to allow • them to make informed career decisions

Work-Based Horticulture

The ABC Awards’ qualifications in Work-Based Horticulture have been developed in collaboration with industry, providers, other Awarding

Organisations and Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for the Land based industries.

Pathways in our Work-Based Horticulture qualifications are available in horticulture,

production horticulture, landscaping, sports turf (green keeper and grounds

man) and parks, gardens and green spaces.

This qualification will be put forward as part of the Environmental and Land-based Studies Apprenticeship Framework.

The qualifications in Work-Based Horticulture aim to:provide knowledge and understanding that will support eff ective and ef-•ficient working practicespromote and encourage good working practices in relation to safety and •minimising any environmental impact of the activities undertakenencourage the development of a creative and problem-solving approach in •achieving the intended visual impact and utility of plant or hard landscapefeaturesfoster the care of healthy plants and crops or those that are challenged by •weeds, pests, diseases and disordersdevelop competent practical skills that will support those seeking a career •in the horticultural industry

Practical Floristry

The ABC Awards and Certificates in Practical Floristry Skills provide practical expe-rience and knowledge of the floristry sector to support engagement, participation, achievement and progression for learners at Entry Level and Level 1. They aim to help learners with all aspects of floristry from identifying flowers and their parts, wrapping/arranging flowers and plants into arrangements for sale, through to how to handle stock in a retail environement.

The ABC Awards and Certificates in Practical Floristry Skills aim to enable learners to:

gain work-related skills in the area of floristry• develop generic employability skills• prepare for further training within this occupational area• gain an insight into core activities within this occupational area in order to allow • them to make informed career decisions

Floristry is about designing, creating, retailing and delivering floral displays for a variety of occasions. Our qualifications cover the wholesale buying of flowers, sundries and as-sociated products, through to preparing them for sale.

ApprenticeshipsLand Based Apprenticeships are available to learners who have a vested interest in the land based industry and who want to gain the skills needed for a successful career in this field. Apprentices get to develop land based specific skills and knowledge whilst learning key/core skills.
