runbritain's handicap scoring system is designed to give runners of all abilities the ability to benchmark progress and compare results across a range of distances and terrains. In addition to road races - cross country, multi-terrain, relay and track events can contribute to your handicap. Without going into detail as to how scores are determined (something to do with algorithms) the main factors are: Course difficulty on the day - you have a good a chance of improving your handicap on a hilly, multi terrain course on a tough day than on a flat course on a calm day. How you ran on the day a hard raced PB will have a more favourable impact on your handicap than a gentle pre- marathon warm up on the same course. The general performance of the race field on the day you have trained hard aiming to set a 5k PB at the Leeds Parkrun. This is achieved however, on the day runners from Leeds City have used the event for a club competition. Average times are much higher than they would generally be and as a result the impact of the PB on your handicap would be less than if achieved any other week. As a basic rule of thumb race regularly and you will see your handicap improve. Infrequent racing will result in your handicap score deteriorating. You handicap score can be accessed via the runbritain tab on your Power of 10 page at www .thepowerof10.info or Directly from www .runbritainrankings.com although you will need to create an account. runbritain's handicap scoring system is designed to give runners of all abilities the ability to benchmark progress and

compare results across a range of distances and terrains.

In addition to road races - cross country, multi-terrain, relay and track events can contribute to your handicap.

Without going into detail as to how scores are determined (something to do with algorithms) the main factors are:

• Course difficulty on the day - you have a good a chance of improving your handicap on a hilly, multi terrain course

on a tough day than on a flat course on a calm day.

• How you ran on the day – a hard raced PB will have a more favourable impact on your handicap than a gentle pre-

marathon warm up on the same course.

• The general performance of the race field on the day – you have trained hard aiming to set a 5k PB at the Leeds

Parkrun. This is achieved however, on the day runners from Leeds City have used the event for a club competition.

Average times are much higher than they would generally be and as a result the impact of the PB on your handicap

would be less than if achieved any other week.

As a basic rule of thumb race regularly and you will see your handicap improve. Infrequent racing will result in your

handicap score deteriorating.

You handicap score can be accessed via the runbritain tab on your Power of 10 page at www.thepowerof10.info

or

Directly from www.runbritainrankings.com although you will need to create an account.
