Dear A2Zians,

It gives me immense pleasure to connect with the growing community of A2Z employees.

The group is evolving from its historical mainstay of FMS and EPC services to being an

Infrastructure company providing solutions that promote Clean and Green Energy. In our

re-engineered strategy, the group is attempting to build scale in Green Technology solutions

in all areas of the power sector, starting from generation of power,to its transmission and to

the end consumers.

To unify the ever evolving and growing community of A2Z employees it is imperative to create

an interactive platform which enables us to communicate and network with each other

through “Horizons”. I request all my colleagues to actively participate and make the 'Horizons'

an even bigger success.

This issue of Horizons will focus on our endeavour in creating Integrated Solid Waste

Management Facilities and how we have transformed the way waste has been treated in India.

Currently we have our operations across 25 cities in India and will soon commence our first

overseas operations in Riyadh and Jeddah. This month's management quotient will help us

extract some lessons from Mahabharata and how we can imbibe them in our daily life and

business operations.

Realizing the impact of leaders on the young generation, leadership profiles have been made

more intensive, exploring some of the eminent personalities of the A2Z Group. We have also

restarted the Photo Contest wherein all employees can share images of their work sites and

projects. We are also introducing an Idea Contest and encourage you to submit ideas which

could benefit the organization in any way possible.

I hope you enjoy this edition of 'Horizons' as much as I do.

Integrated Waste Management To The World

Integrated Solid Waste Management can be defined as a comprehensive approach to

protecting human health and the environment that includes waste prevention, recycling,

composting, energy recovery, and disposal.

With growing public awareness about sanitation, and with increasing pressure on the

government and urban local bodies to manage waste more efficiently, the Indian solid waste to

energy sector is poised to grow at a rapid pace in the years to come with opening opportunities.

We can take a leadership position by adopting a “No Wasted Resources” mindset. Our goal

should be to focus our efforts on recovering the full value of material up and down product life

cycles.

Integrated Waste Management To The World

As you already know A2Z infrastructure in a short span of time has established a leadership

position in the management of Municipal Solid Waste and currently has presence across 25 + cities

and growing, providing integrated solution to manage municipal solid waste. Just to highlight some

facts about MSW in India

?About 115000 tons of solid waste is generated per day. This figure could be twice as much by

2020.

?Municipal solid waste is a potential source for recyclable and inert materials and can produce

value added products, in addition to energy recovery.

?Business opportunities in waste to energy exist in all three stages of waste to energy –

Waste Transportation, Waste Management Facilities, and Waste Processing for Energy

Recovery.

?Indian government actively encourages private sector participation in MSW value chain

through a variety of business and operational models.

It is a matter of pride for all A2Zians that very soon our company will venture into overseas

markets in the area of management of Municipal Solid Waste. The magnitudes of opportunity in this

domain are multifold and we foresee a huge business opportunity which would be a win-win

prospect across all stakeholders.

Very soon we shall be commencing our first overseas operations in Riyadh and Jeddah (Kingdom of

Saudi Arabia) as our first foot print out side India, followed by Dubai in the very near future. Besides

KSA, we are also close to concluding similar plans in countries namely Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica

Republic, Colombia and several others.

We can proudly say that the technology we have evolved over a period of time and our passionate

determination to bring perfection in the highest order will help us to drive our leadership position

not only in India but across the globe in the years to come.

The global economy will demand increasing levels of consumption. Even in a serious recession,

consumption is at levels that exceed the planet's ability to regenerate or digest. Our biggest

challenge as an evolving industry will be to help in achieving a balance that will lead to “sustainable

consumption.”

Predicting the future is always challenging, but as the late Peter F. Drucker, a well-known author and

management consultant, once stated, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”

Event: Manthan"Manthan...the collective might"- Team A2Z Infraservices.

Amidst the beautiful sunset of Silvasa along the banks of Daman Ganga the management of A2Z

Infraservices interacted with Management Gurus like Mr. NC Singhal, Mr. Kalpen Shukla, Mr.

Prabhat Kumar Sinha and Mr. Rana Bawa. The workshops were designed towards driving "Merger

integration and future roadmap of the company”. In order to ensure that top clients get special

focus, Key Account Managers (KAM) concept is introduced. KAMs & OMs (Operation Managers)

discussed plans to improve efficiency and delight customers. Senior management addressed

business challenges and discussed short term strategies on business growth. Various new

initiatives which will transform A2Z Infraservices from an FMS company to Futuristic

Administrative Management Services being undertaken were presented to everyone. The team

brain stormed case studies and came up with innovative solutions. All this happened amidst a lot

of fun and action throughout the day and in evening dancing with games helped everyone unwind.

We got a great appreciation on the fantastic quality of participants from all the visiting speakers

and this bodes extremely well for the future of our institution. Their participation in making an ad

film for the company, discussions around goal setting, values for our enterprise, inputs on merger-

integration of all three companies, inputs on new initiatives and peer reviews (all the Regional

heads reviewing the other Regional Heads) were extremely fruitful. The Mid-management Teams

(including the KAMs) were exposed to some basic concepts of quality/process. The Journey has

begun of making A2Z Infraservices an admirable enterprise that will redefine this business of

We have tested some of our innovations on a few client sites and are in process of creating com-

mercial models around them. Some of the key initiatives that are helping us transform are:

A) 5W1H: Micro level analysis of Service Level agreements (SLA) with 5W1H. (What, when,

why, who, where and how) This not only helps in defining the Service Level Agreements (SLA) but

also helps us map the various activities done on site. Does it stop here? Answer is no. This

beautiful tool also helps us define the time required to any activity to attain a particular quality

level and hence the total time required for all the activities across the site.

B) Wifinity: Wifinity specializes in wireless sensor based applications and have patents around

them .With the help of our partner, we have successfully conducted a pilot project at a key client

site. Together we have installed smart devices which would give us real time data on water

consumption, Electricity unit consumption, Air quality, etc. and this data can be viewed online. All

this real time data will enable us to add value to the client by helping them deliver superior work-

place in a cost-effective way.

C) RFID: Radio Frequency Identification Device. This would help us map and track different

Processes and people involved in the same. It would also help us track the daily path followed by

our staff and analyses the areas in which they miss or skip to do their respective activities.

Creating and energising the client work place by creating interesting applications of Science and

Heritage in order that engage the five senses of people. These initiatives and many more are

transforming the way we do business in today's competitive environment we will lead in client

engagement through innovative business solutions. This is just the beginning of lots more to come.

Management Lessons from Mahabharata

The second longest epic of the world, Mahabharata is not just an epic narrative of the

Kurukshetra War or a book of philosophy; rather it's a comprehensive manual on management

strategy. Mahabharata encompasses many lessons on management which can potentially be

applied to modern business practices. Vyasa's epic poem is considered to be a pertinent

handbook on management and these management insights are being practiced by many today.

Take a look at some of the best practices from India's great epic of knowledge and inspiration.

1. Transform your weakness into strength

Like how Pandavas transformed their weaknesses

to strengths during the years of exile, you need to

have the urge to improve on your weakness.

Mahabarata gives many an examples to highlight

the importance of utilizing time to overcoming

your skills like how Arjuna went on a mission to

attain the Divyastras or Yudhisthira mastered the

Game of Dice. You need to have the passion to

dedicate adequate time to learn those skills that

can help you overcome your weakness only by

which you can be a great manager.

2. Share your responsibilities

Efficiently sharing responsibilities is the mark of a

good manager and the great Indian epic gives the

best example for this. Pandavas fought the war as

one team with one goal in mind while Kauravas

lacked the team spirit and they all fought

individual wars. It advises the managers not to

make the decision-making process a dictatorial

one, rather involve everyone so that the best of

ideas will pop up.

Page 15: Horizon Internal Page

Page 14

3. Learn the art of teamwork

It was not a common war for Kauravas as they

never showed the unity. But the way Pandavas

fought is a lesson for managers as it highlights the

significance of sticking on to the common goal

while meeting the individual targets. The great

story teaches the golden lesson that only a

combined effort can bring in success.

4. Know the ground realities

Pandavas spent one year in exile with the poor

people and the years of exile helped them to

reach out to people from various strata of the

society while Kaurava's had no experience of the

ground reality as they lived a royal life. Managers

need to understand the realities to lead their

team in the right direction. They need to break

the barriers to get in touch with their

subordinates to understand their problems and

identify ways to make their work easier.

5. Take calculated risks

Krishna has acted as a greatest crisis manager

showing how to take calculated risks at the time

of crisis. Management is all about taking

calculated risks. Shying away from challenges is

not a sign of management, rather well-assessed

decisions to on facing the challenges is the

trademark of good management.

Management Lessons from Mahabharata

Corporate Joke on HR Policy

Toilet Use

Sick Days

Entirely too much time is being spent in the toilet. There is now a strict three-minute

time limit in the stalls. At the end of three minutes, an alarm will sound, the toilet

paper roll will retract, the stall door will open, and a picture will be taken. After your

second offence, your picture will be posted on the company bulletin board under the

"Chronic Offenders category". Anyone caught smiling in the picture will be sanctioned

under the company's mental health policy.

Skinny people get 30 minutes for lunch, as they need to eat more, so that they can look

healthy. Normal size people get 15 minutes for lunch to get a balanced meal to

maintain their average figure. Chubby people get 5 minutes for lunch, because that's

all the time needed to drink a Slim-Fast.

We will no longer accept a doctor's statement as proof of sickness. If you are able to

go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.

Each employee will receive 52 personal days a year. They are called Sunday.

In case of any emergency, the employee won't be allowed to leave early during working

hours as during this emergency the employee's work rate would go up tremendously

and the company would be benefitted out of it.

It is advised that you come to work dressed according to your salary. If we see you

wearing Prada shoes and carrying a Gucci bag, we assume you are doing well financially

and therefore do not need a raise. If you dress poorly, you need to learn to manage

your money better, so that you buy nicer clothes, and therefore you do not need a

raise. If you dress just right, you are right where you need to be and therefore you do

not need a raise.

From The Field

Mr. Ajay SinghHead - C&T Varanasi, A2Z Infrastructure Limited

Mr. Ajay has done double MBA. One is in the field of Material Management and

the other one in IT and marketing in the year 2007.When he joined on 23rd

May, 2011, the total user charge collection for entire Kanpur was about Rs. 15

lakhs. In one month of joining, the collection increased three times to Rs. 40

lakhs approx. He studied the whole system and inculcated hierarchy so that the

work to be done is coordinated properly. Previously there were only manual entries, but after the

intervention of Mr. Singh, the whole system was automated which resulted in apposite data

management. He implemented vehicle tracking system which made the system cost efficient in

terms of manpower. Earlier the total manpower was approximately 450 people which have been

reduced to approximately 250 people. In C&T, since 3-4 months, zonal collection commissioners

have appreciated his work. There have been 4 foreign visits in his regime. He has also been awarded

by the Prime Minister of India. Now the total user charge collection for entire Kanpur is Rs. 80

Lakhs with reduced manpower. Considering his astounding performance the organization has

promoted him as C&T Head Varanasi with effect from 19th march 2012. We congratulate Mr. Singh

for the work he has done for our A2Z family and hope other members will get inspired from his

exemplary achievements.
