The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles has been the foundation of our Jewish community for over 100 years and continues to address its greatest challenges and opportunities in Los Angeles, in Israel, and around the world. Our Federation annually recognizes a couple with our Jewish Community Lifetime Achievement award for setting the highest standard for philanthropy, leadership, and community activism. The Federation is proud to honor Younes and Soraya Nazarian with the 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award at a Gala Dinner on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Younes and Soraya Nazarian, visionary and exemplary philanthropists, have for decades dedicated themselves to strengthening Israel and the Los Angeles Jewish and secular communities. Through the Younes & Soraya Nazarian Family Foundation and the Ima Foundation in Israel, they have supported numerous high-impact educational, public policy, and artistic projects at institutions including the University of California, Los Angeles; the Hammer Museum; California State University, Northridge; the University of Haifa; the National Library of Israel; and Friends of the Israel Defense Forces. Over the last decade, the Nazarians have worked with the Federation to build bridges among the Iranian and general Jewish communities of Los Angeles. Together, we created the Younes & Soraya Nazarian Iranian Young Adult Leadership Initiative through which we engage today’s Persian Jewish young adults in the work of the Federation and the greater Jewish community.

In honor of Younes and Soraya and the entire family, proceeds from this year’s Gala Evening will support the Federation’s Next Generation Leadership Training Programs. The Nazarian family believes in the importance of giving back and looking forward, and these programs focus on ensuring that our young adult leaders have the skills to help our community address our shared challenges.

THE JEWISH FEDER ATION’S 2019 JEWISH COMMUNITY

The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles created the Jewish Community Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize members of our community who set the highest standard for philanthropy, leadership, and activism. We are so proud to honor Younes and Soraya Nazarian with this year’s prestigious award at a Gala Evening on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. The evening will be a celebration of community unity. The Jewish Federation and the Nazarian family are focused on ensuring that young adults become the next generation of leaders that our community needs. Proceeds from the Gala will support our Federation’s Next Generation Leadership Training Programs:

The Community Leadership Institute – CLI trains young adults to serve on boards and in other leadership roles at the Federation and other organizations across the Jewish community. This 15-month program includes a comprehensive curriculum, retreats, extensive mentorship, and a 10-day learning trip to Israel.

The Rautenberg New Leaders Project – NLP trains Jewish young adults to be engaged in the civic community of Los Angeles by providing the leadership skills and access to decision makers necessary to address our city’s greatest challenges.

Y&S Nazarian Young Adult Leadership Initiative – Created in partnership with the Younes & Soraya Nazarian Foundation, this initiative connects young adult Iranian Jews with engagement opportunities within our Federation and beyond and brings celebrations of Persian culture to the larger Jewish community. We provide individualized attention to Iranian young adult leaders and social, professional, cultural, and volunteer programs aimed at creating a new generation of Iranian Jewish leaders.

Geri and Richard Brawerman Leadership Institute – Every year four high school seniors receive a need-based, four-year scholarship and extensive leadership training throughout their college career. Participants also complete internships, join Birthright Israel and other global immersive Jewish experiences, and receive mentorship.
