Sometimes our children say the funniest things. This past week a cottage mom told me
about a conversation she had with one of her children at breakfast. The boy asked, “What
color is your hair? She said, “Well, when I was younger it was black. Then it became black
and gray, you know, salt and pepper.” The little boy interrupted and said, “Well, I don’t see
any pepper now. It’s all salt.”
Not long ago one of our children asked his cottage mom and dad to get a puppy so he
could play with it in the cottage. The dad explained that no one could take care of it when he
and his wife were off. The boy said, “Well, I could take care of it. I’m 27 years old in dog years.”
Our children do keep us laughing and wondering what they will say or do next. At times the stories are funny. At
other times they are more serious and become matters of prayer. We are just grateful for your support which provides the
opportunity to laugh with them in the good times and help them through the difficult times. Thank you.
I also want to thank you for your support of our children through the Fall Food Roundup. Our cottage dads will be
at a church in your area very soon. Thank you for providing the food our children need every day.
Fall is also a time when our staff and I have the opportunity to attend many of your annual Baptist Association meet-
ings. We enjoy visiting and sharing what God is doing through your support of the Children’s Home. I hope to see you
there.
Thank you again for your partnership in ministry. Every day in some special way you are sharing God’s love in word
and deed through LBCH. Whether it is our care for children and families in Monroe, our off-campus foster homes, our
Granberry Counseling Centers, or one of our other ministries, you are meeting needs and changing lives in Jesus’ name.
Thank you so much. God bless.
Look who got her
driver’s license!
Congratulations
Stephanie!

Bryson greets you at the door with a sparkle in his eyes, ahuge grin and a really big hug, welcoming you to his home. Bryson and his mom Nikki are part of LBCH’s HomePlaceMinistry, and October will mark their one-year anniversary oncampus. Nikki shares that Bryson actually celebrated his firstbirthday at LBCH when they were part of the Mobley Cottagefamily. “I was so young, just so young, and we left here. Yearspassed and I found myself struggling, knowing I wasn’t whereI was supposed to be. The Holy Spirit kept telling me that Ineeded to change my life, but I just kept putting it off. You feellike you’ve let down the people who care about you by notmaking it work. Because I didn’t want my friends at LBCH tobe disappointed in me, I fought that desire to come back. Then one day I called Miss Susan Clark. She—andeveryone here—they all welcomed us back.Everyone has been so supportive and so encour-aging since day one.” Nikki admits, “It was anadjustment to come back here. But seeingkids everywhere playing, everyone here isso happy. It is a wonderful place.” Bryson, who is sitting on the sofa drawing, softlyechoes, “It’s a wonderful place.”
Bryson, who is 5, loves living oncampus. “It’s a good place to ride mybike,” he says. He and Nikki often bikeor walk together, and Bryson enjoys timeat the pool. Having his friend and play-mate Cooper living next door is alwaysfun, too.
Nikki shakes her head as Brysonproudly points out the “clean” coffee table.Nikki laughs that it is normally covered withconstruction paper, crayons and markers.“Bryson loves art. He would spend all of his timedrawing and creating, if I let him, and that’s wherehe usually has all of his supplies and artwork spreadout.” At the moment, Bryson has a small whiteboard and isdrawing buses that can “take a lot of people places really fast.”He draws, erases and re-draws, showing you each new, improved design feature on his one-of-a-kind vehicle. He keepscoming up with unique elements, each planned “to make thisbus go faster.”
Bryson is enjoying kindergarten at Claiborne Elementary, which is close to the daycare where Nikki works. Nikki says hestill confuses school with his after-school program. He lovesboth teachers and all the activities, so to him it’s all the samething! With the move back to LBCH, Nikki was able to enrollin classes to earn her medical assistant’s degree. Bryson stayswith his grandmother the evenings that Nikki is in class. Nikkiis appreciative to have a family member close by and to havethis extraordinary support that, first of all, allows Bryson tohave that special relationship with extended family and alsolets her complete her education.
With school and work, weekdays are packed with activi-ties; but, at the end of each day and on weekends, Bryson andNikki always try to make the most of their limited time togeth-
er. They love reading. Nikki likes to plan healthy menus andcook at home, but they enjoy going out sometimes, too.Bryson’s favorite is McAlister’s peanut butter and jelly and“sometimes macaroni and cheese—sometimes!” He’simpressed that at McAlister’s, “They always have pickles. They are sour!” He giggles at the thought of the scrunched upfaces people make as they are eating them, but “they are good.”
Bryson and Nikki are actively involved at Christ Church.Nikki describes it as a loving church, and they have both feltvery welcomed and very much a part of the church family.Nikki, who was baptized in August, says that since their firstvisit, Bryson always looks forward to church time. All of hisfriends from school attend there, so it was a thrill for Bryson tosee so many familiar faces on that first visit and a comfort to
Nikki. Nikki’s schedule gives her a limited amount of free
time but, when possible, she enjoys being with theother moms on campus. “You have the opportu-
nity here to make lifelong friends,” she says.“It helps to talk with people who have com-mon goals and struggles, to hear and learnfrom their stories, their testimonies.”Moving back to campus and returning toschool have required a lot of discipline, but she is so thankful for this secondchance. “It’s a dream come true,” shesays, “to be able to work on my degree inan area I love…. And Miss Susan and theothers, it’s like they want to see the best inus. We are mentored. We never have toworry about anything; I know we are
loved. Finally, Bryson and I are back wherewe need to be, where God wants us to be.
“I have grown so much in the last elevenmonths, really grown to love God even more,”
says Nikki, “and I am truly grateful. There is somuch I have learned about how to really do things
the way God wants me to. This helps Bryson and helpsme be a better mother to him. Coming back here was such ablessing. When I look back now, it’s so clear how God orches-trated everything to bring us back here.”
Nikki and Bryson have had discussions about “someday”when Bryson is a dad and has a family of his own. When thatday comes, he thinks he might like being either an “airplanedriver or a crane driver” in order to support his family. In themeantime, as Bryson wisely says, “I don’t want to grow upuntil it’s time for me to.” At this moment, he has finished hisdrawing and is doing a little impromptu dance while asking toeither play his Angry Birds game or watch TV. He has just real-ized it is Saturday, or “cartoon day.” To him that also means“weekend,” the special time he and his mom have to just hangout and do fun things together. Both Nikki and Bryson sendyou on your way with a big hug as they continue to chat hap-pily about their ideas for the weekend. It will be exciting to seeGod’s orchestration for both Bryson and his mom in the daysto come….for I know the plans I have for you (Jer. 29:11).
Happy Birthday!
Bryson... “LBCH is a wonderful place!

Friends of the Children’s Home…
Thank you for Providing Love, Care, and Hope in Christ!
Love, care, and hope in Christ to those who are hurting and in need. This
is what your gifts mean to the children and families we serve. Thank you
so very much!
We are putting your gifts to good use. With your help, needs are being met and lives are being changed every day
through our Christ-centered ministries.
You helped us provide services for over 4,400 children, families, and individuals across Louisiana and in the
countries of Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Haiti. More than 180 experienced salvation by grace through faith in our Lord
Jesus Christ!
Through our Residential Ministries on our Monroe campus, 205 children and families were served.
Our Christian Women’s Job Corps provided 91 women with job and life skills training.
Through our Pregnancy Resource Ministries, a crisis pregnancy resource consultant was supported in partnership
with the Louisiana Baptist Convention Missions and Ministry Team.
Our Mobile Pregnancy Care Center provided a pro-life witness to over 1,200 women across the state.
Our Granberry Counseling Centers provided professional Christian counseling for 1,552 individuals in 11 loca-
tions across the state. Counseling was also provided for 91 Louisiana Baptist ministers and their family members at no
cost through a partnership with the LBC Pastoral Leadership Team.
Through our Orphans Embrace ministry, 83 Louisiana Baptist mission volunteers served over 1,100 orphans and
children in need through short-term mission trips to Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Haiti.
Our Connect 1:27 Foster and Adoption Ministries provided support services for 90 foster children across the state.
Our five full-time foster and adoption specialists have helped reduce the number of children in foster care waiting to
be adopted from 300 to 100. With 4,700 children in Louisiana foster care, these specialists are working hard to recruit
foster and adoptive families in our 1,600 Louisiana Baptist churches.
Giving is the call to reflect the heart of God
through our discipline of generosity. Thank you for
reflecting the care and compassion of Christ
through your generosity to the children and fami-
lies we serve!
Thank you Friends!
Bethlehem Baptist Church in Albany made their
annual visit to our campus with their 5th and 6th
graders and presented us with their $1,475.00 VBS
missions offering. Thank you Bethlehem for your gen-
erosity to the children in our care!
Friends from Community Baptist Church,
Lafayette, came up for an annual visit and tour of our
campus. They brought gifts for our Love Cottage par-
ents, t-shirts for Love Cottage residents, and a gener-
ous amount of school supplies for all of our children.
Thank you so much for your compassion and concern
for our staff and the children in our care!

Dear Friend of Children,
I hope you’ve had a great summer! Our boys and girls experienced summer camp, Vacation Bible School, and lots of recreation and pool time. Thank you for
making these summertime opportunities possible for the children in our care.
The new school year is in full swing with all of our Back-To-School needs. Just imagine outfitting all of our boys and girls with shoes, socks, pants, shirts,
dresses, blouses, and coats! School supplies, gym gear, lab and activity fees are needed. There are haircuts, eye exams, new glasses, dental exams and braces. The
costs really add up!
Your Back-To-School investment pays tremendous dividends! Susan and Samuel* came to us over three years ago, having been abandoned by their parents at
a very young age. They were placed with us by elderly relatives who became ill and could no longer care for them.
Samuel completed the sixth grade as an honor student, thanks to the help of our academic tutors. He’s excited to be in junior high school. Susan graduated
from high school with awards and recognitions. She is taking a full academic load at a local community college. Her goal is to attend law school, become an
attorney, and give back to others in the way others have given to her.
Your investment in Susan and Samuel, and so many other children like them, makes their life-changing stories possible. Thank you!
Would you please make a gift to help with our Back-To-School needs? Your prayers and support bring smiles to our children’s faces and hope to their hearts.
Thank you so much for making a difference in their lives!
For the Children,
Dr. Perry Hancock
President & CEO
P.S. Thank you for praying for our children throughout their school year!

Thoughts from a Foster Family
“We were very inspired by pastor Voddie Baucchaum to start praying about foster care.
When we started praying about it, God just urged us to pursue it! Run for it! We began to see
it as a calling for our family. Doing foster care was never about us, it was about bringing a
very big light (Jesus) to a small child's very dark world. We have been so blessed in our jour-
ney. Is it hard? Yes. Is it emotional? Yes. But, God has been so faithful to us, our children,
our foster children, and their families. We've shared Christ with people whose paths we nor-
mally would have never crossed. Now we consider them family. That is foster care to us. God
bless!” –The Gordons
Ron and Cindy Kouf, our Mobile Pregnancy Care Center (MPCC)
team members were flooded out of their home at the Northside Baptist
Church parsonage in Denham Springs. They hope to be back home very
soon. In the interim, we are grateful to First Baptist Church Kentwood for
providing them with a place to stay. Our prayers go out to all that have
been affected by the flood.
The MPCC travels the state offering free pregnancy tests, free ultra-
sounds, pro-life literature, and a positive Christian witness.

On this journey called life, we encounter many “aha” moments – some precious, some
unforgettable, and then some that are miraculous. If you’ve never experienced one of those
miraculous moments, just venture onto the mission field with an Orphans Embrace mission team!
In the city of Managua, Nicaragua, you can experience so many emotions, sights and sounds. You
initially encounter stares and whispers among the adults, but once the villagers recognize a famil-
iar face in the group, you begin to see smiles emerge on their faces. They are smiles of joy and
smiles of relief – relief knowing that people have come to share the Word of the Lord and to give
them hope in our Savior. The villagers know that people from all walks of life come to love on
them, their children, and their community. It is heart-breaking to hear their stories of desperation
and loneliness. The hunger that the people of Nicaragua have for the Lord is amazing!
This trip was like no other that we have experienced. I knew we were in good hands –
God’s hands are the best. There were also some moments of, “God, it’s me again! How in the
world are we going to do VBS for 150 plus children with just eight team members? Show me
Lord!” And He did! We not only had the right amount of helpers and translators, but we also had
enough supplies, decorations, and flip flops to go around! The Lord even provided enough sup-
plies to leave with the church we were working with and to send to a church in Rivas, Nicaragua.
God is so gracious! He knows how to multiply resources and meet needs.
There were two pastors with our mission team that preached at the first church service at
Bethel where we witnessed four members of the community come to know the Lord as their per-
sonal Savior. Those brand new Christians were placed in a discipleship program that very day
and were loved on and ministered to by the church. We can learn so much from this one church!
They did not waste any time getting their new members plugged into God’s Word.
We provided VBS for ages five to fifteen, two hours a day for three days. We separated the
children into four age groups and the groups were large. The children loved the songs, crafts and
lessons, but most of all, they loved the smiles, hugs, and the one-on-one time from us. They love
to tell you their names and how old they are. Things that we often take for granted, they hold so
precious.
We ministered to an average of 130 children and adults. We were blessed by something as
simple as a name badge with each child’s name on it. This was so important to the children that
many of them gave their name badges back to the teachers each day so they would not be lost.
We also gave out food bags to 35 sponsored families in the community. This really helped
some families in their time of need. We walked in one neighborhood and handed out five other
food baskets and prayed with the families. These were people who either had no work or were
experiencing other difficult circumstances such as illness or the death of a family member.
Some of the men in our group played with spin tops with a group of teenage boys hanging
out in the streets. There are no video game systems or other electronics available for them to
enjoy.
At the Hogar Senil Senior Home, there were about 20 residents in the facility ranging in
age from 35 to 96. These residents have no family to take care of them. On our first visit we were
blessed by listening to one resident preach even though we could not understand what he was
saying. You could tell that he loved his Lord and wasn’t afraid to share that love with others. The
ladies did crafts with the residents. The men did construction work on the new men’s wing
installing toilets, sinks and shower heads, along with plumbing repair on the ladies’ wing.
Time slips away quickly on the mission field. We never seem to have enough time for
everything that we want to do. We are grateful for all that God accomplished through our efforts
and for every person He placed on our team. This was truly an amazing trip!

HOMEPLACE HIGHLIGHTS
I am not one who usually writes statistically… that’s my husband, the accountant. However, for the record,
close to 50% of all children in the state live in single-parent homes. This number should not surprise us consider-
ing the increase in the divorce rate in our nation. The point of stating this statistic is not to focus on the negative but
instead to focus on the strides that are taking place right here at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home and Family
Ministries.
The resources that a single mother has when she becomes a part of HomePlace seem to be more than we can
comprehend at times. Immediately, a mom enrolls in Christian Women’s Job Corp located on the LBCH campus.
She is tested and then offered one of several educational tracts where she can expand her opportunities and certifi-
cation. While attending CWJC, she receives discipleship, life skills and hands on activities to enhance her educa-
tional experience.
HomePlace mothers receive individual parenting classes as well as instruction in nutrition and meal planning.
In addition to this, the mothers are given opportunities to learn in the areas of finances, relationships, organization
and domestic skills. These are only a few of the areas that our mothers are engaged in on a daily basis. Most impor-
tantly, the families participate in weekly cottage Bible studies as well as being a part of a local church and its activ-
ities.
I have read many articles concerning the hardships and consequences of single motherhood. If the current pat-
tern continues to increase, so will the rates in poverty, delinquency, school drop-outs and poor health in the lives of
the children. Because single motherhood has no one cause nor does it have no one solution, we are in constant prayer
for God’s leadership in what He has called us to do at HomePlace. We as Christian brothers and sisters in Christ
are asked to pray and support our women and children. Thank you for depositing into lives that God values great-
ly.
Two of our children received Student of the Week and Student of the Month Awards. Two of our mothers
obtained new vehicles with one receiving her driver’s license. Two moms are attending technical college with A
averages while working. Two families just received keys to their new homes and will be leaving HomePlace in the
next few days. In conclusion, I believe God is changing the course of the families at HomePlace…. We are not only
changing statistics but changing lives for future generations.
