ENGLISH In English, we are building up to write a formal newspaper report based on the picture book ‘The Watertower’ by Gary Crew. We will begin by revisiting key skills each day this week which we will need in order to write a successful formal report. SPELLING Your spelling words for this week are at the bottom of this document. Each day we want you to spend 20 minutes using a different strategy each day to practise them. OTHER This section will include all of your Foundation subjects. In History, we are learning about the kingdom of Benin. In Science, we are learning about living things. You will have 2 to complete each day. We will be looking at the abdophus octopus. https://www.naturalcurric ulum.co.uk/year5/tense- consistency/abdopus- octopus/screen-1/ You will need to: -Read the clip description then watch the clip on the first page ‘Learning Objective’ -Read the scintillating sentences on the second page ’The Grammar bit’ and make a note why you Today’s strategy is: Speed writing! How many times can you write out each word (and spell it correctly) in one minute? Can you beat your score? History – our new topic is the Kingdom of Benin. Read about how the kingdom began, how it became an empire and how it ended. Here is the link for your reading: The kingdom of Benin - BBC Bitesize. We would then like you to put the Benin timeline in order – this can be stuck in your pink books. Remember: BCE is before common era and CE is common era. BCE comes first and the closer the number is to 0, the more recent it was. E.g. 1400BCE is earlier than 500BCE. Once you have done this, pick one of the time periods from the cards to compare to our British History timeline that is stuck up in our classroom. What was happening in Britain at that time? Your comparison could be completed on google docs. Both timelines are attached below.
