M arc h 8, 2015 THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT
DEAR PARISHIONERS:
Dear Parishioners
Sacred reading of scripture or Lectio Divina
In the faith formation classes for the Rite of Christian Initiation
for Adults (RCIA) we often speak of various types of prayer. One
is called sacred reading or Lectio Divina. It is reading Scripture
as the “living Word of God”.
St. John of the Cross in the 16 Century paraphrase of a verseth
from St. Luke’s Gospel (11.9) to describe Lectio Divina:
“seek in READING,
And you will find in MEDITATION
knock in PRAYER
and it will be opened to you
in CONTEMPLATION”
There are lots of resources on the internet to help you with
learning more about lectio divina as part of your prayer life. The
American Bible society is a good resource or catholic.com
Is lectio divina for everyone? Not necessarily for everyone but
it is a good thing for everyone to explore with the help of the Holy
Spirit. Fr. Chapman, a famous Benedictine spiritual director of
the early 1900s said this: “pray as you can, not as you can’t”
Fr. Galvon

Prayer for Lent - The Way of Sacrifice
Therefore, I urge you, in view of God’s mercy,
to offer your bodies as living sacrifices,
holy and pleasing to God.
Romans 12.1
O God, you have given all for me.
What, then, is holy and pleasing to you?
What sacrifice can I offer?
You have shown me through your Son
the way of sacrifice.
And you have told me what is pleasing to you
is the sacrifice of me –
my time, my skills, my money.
When I recognize it all as yours,
and use it for your glory,
that is what you desire.
Father, help me to sacrifice me.
Amen.

" .
Oración de Cuaresma sobre Servicio
Ahora que Yo... He lavado sus pies, ustedes deben hacer
tu acto me hace capaz de servir a mis semejantes. Al seguir
tu camino, abre mis ojos a quienes me rodean y necesitan
de m is servicios.
proporcionarles tu Amor a través mi humilde servicio.
