4TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - JANUARY 29, 2017

THE CATHOLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF BC will be awarding two bursaries valued at $250 each to two 2017 gradu-ating students who are enrolled in Catholic secondary schools, or who are members of BC or Yukon parishes and enrolled in public secondary schools, or who are home-schooled. Students are asked to submit a 500-word essay that demonstrates an awareness and understanding of the significance of Spirituality in Health Care. Submissions must be received on or before Friday, March 10, 2017. For further details, please refer to the poster on display in the vestibule of the church.

Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Violet Smith, of our Parish. Prayers: Thurs-day, February 2nd, at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass will be on Friday, February 3rd, at 11:00am. May she rest in peace. CATHOLIC PRESS COLLECTION: February is Catholic Press Month and with it comes the annual Catholic Press Collection. On February 4th—5th, there will be a second collection at all parishes in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. This is a great opportuni-ty for parishioners to show their appreciation for re-ceiving The B.C. Catholic. The collection helps de-fray your parish’s costs for mailing the paper. For those who do not receive it, it is also a great chance to help out as all the money collected stays in the parish. Please give generously next weekend so we can continue to deliver to parishioners in the Archdi-ocese of Vancouver this vital, award-winning publi-cation. Please visit www.bccatholic.ca for more info on the Catholic Press Collection and the Catholic Press Association. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS January 29th—4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The stewardship virtue of humility is encouraged in all the readings today. Stewardship proclaims that my gifts are not mine and they are not for my glory. All spiritual and temporal gifts belong to God and are to be used and shared in a manner that gives God glory. Christian stewards accept and acknowledge that all we are ever able to accomplish or accumulate in our lives, is only because our good and gracious God has enabled it. This belief inspires us to embrace a humble disposition. Humility does not mean we deny that we have a gift, it simply means we know the true and only source of all our gifts.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

ST. MARY’S PADRE PIO PRAYER GROUP: Inter-cessory prayer is a path to joy. With God’s grace we know that we can do something for others by praying for them. When we intercede for others, we place the power of God at work in the suffering of others in our lives and those who are recommended to us. At the same time when we do all that we can for others, we have the opportunity to live out the life of God, thus we become more and more like God. Intercession is a path towards joy because it is a path to God. Be a joy-ful intercessor of the Padre Pio Prayer Group and be part of the Church’s mission. Saturday, February 4th, from 9:30—11:30am, at St Mary’s Parish Hall, Van-couver.
