Mat 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.

Mat 1:19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.

Mat 1:20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

Mat 1:21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."

Jacob - means Supplanter

Moses - means to Draw out

Barnabas - Son of Encouragement

Jesus means God is Salvation

Adam means Man

Adam means Man

His son Seth, which means "Appointed."

His son Enosh, , means "Mortal;" and

His son, Kenan, means "Sorrow."

His son Mahalalel, means "The Blessed God."

Adam means Man His son Jared which means

"Came Down," His son, Enoch, means

"Teaching." His son Methuselah means

"His death shall bring;" His son Lamech means

"Strength,“ His son Noah, means

"Comfort."

Now put that all together:

“MAN IS APPOINTED TO MORTAL SORROW; BUT THE BLESSED GOD, COME DOWN, TEACHING, THAT HIS DEATH SHALL BRING, STRENGTH AND COMFORT”

WHAT DOES THE NAME JESUS MEAN TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF US?

A. IT MEANS SALVATION TO EVERYONE OF US


Ro 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ps 116:4 Then I called upon the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I beseech Thee, save my life!"


Act 4:11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. Vs.12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."


1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,



B. IT MEANS PROTECTION TO EVERYONE OF US


Pr 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. (they are saved - KJV)


Php 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:


Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth;


Mar 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons;


Luk 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.




C. IT MEANS PROVISION TO EVERYONE OF US


Joh 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Joh 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full





D. IT MEANS REDEMPTION TO EVERY ONE OF US.


Mt. 1:21... thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

The text is a unique one, it does not say that Jesus will save everyone from their sins, it is group specific - His people. There are verses that indicate Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, for example:


Joh 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.


1Jo 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world.
