The devil & Thanksgiving
There is an old European story about a
traveler who came upon a barn where
the devil had stored seeds which he
planned to sow in the hearts of people.
There were bags of seeds variously
marked “Hatred,” “Fear,” “Doubt,”
“Despair,” “Unforgiveness,” “Pride,”
“Greed,” etc.
The devil appeared and struck up a
conversation with the traveler. He
gleefully told the traveler how easily
the seeds he sowed sprouted in the
hearts of men and women.
“Are there any hearts in which these
seeds will not sprout?” the traveler
asked.
A melancholy look appeared on the
devil’s face. “These seeds will not
sprout in the heart of a thankful and
joyful person,’ he confessed.
Happy Thanksgiving to you from Holy Family
“You don’t have a soul, You are a
soul. You have a body.”

Counting Blessings
How do we handle inconveniences like an irritating coworker, a last-minute schedule
change, or occasional miscommunication? God allows us trials so we can grow in virtue, to
encourage us to trust him and open ourselves to his grace.
The next trial you face, thank God for his “blessings” and pray for his patience, humility, and
grace.
Live and Learn:
Age 31: I’ve learned that if you like yourself and who you are, then you probably like almost
everyone you meet regardless of who they are.
Age 51: I’ve learned that I have never been bored in the presence of a cheerful person.
Each according to their ability
What do you think of when I mention the word “talents” besides your thoughts that you
don’t have any, and if you do they aren't very good. Perhaps this is because you still
associate talents only with music or art or sports. Have you ever considered the lady who
plays the music Sunday after Sunday, or the Altar Server that loves it, has a talent? What
about the person in the congregation who is able to take a project on and organize the tasks
and the people. All the while rejoicing because she is enjoying serving the Lord so much? In
our parable for this Sunday, our Lord tells of a man who gave each servant so many talents
according to his ability. Not every one received the same amount and although the parable
uses the analogy of money rather than abilities, it still speaks to us of the importance of
recognizing Who owns our talents and how we are to use them until He returns to hold us
accountable. You may even have a talent just sitting inside your heart that you are not even
aware of yet. Come and discover what the Holy Spirit is calling you to do with that ability to
arrange flowers ,sing a solo, or to be a friendly face to someone who needs to see a smile.

Holy Family News : There will be no weekday Mass this week. The office will be closed Thursday and Friday November 23,24, in observance of Thanksgiving. Janet, Debi, and Father J wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday.
World Day of the Poor: Pope Francis has named this Sunday, November 19, 2017, the first World Day of the Poor. The Sunday gospel invites us to reflect on how to invest our talents in the world community. The pope’s namesake, Francis of Assisi, models building relationships with people who are poor. Pope Francis hopes that our volunteer service and impromptu acts of generosity “lead to a true encounter with the poor and a sharing that becomes a way of life.” He encourages “believers to react against a culture of discard and waste and to embrace the culture of encounter.” This is a Sunday to create moments of encounter and friendship, for volunteers and people who are poor to take part in Eucharist together, for parishes to make the poor honored guests at table.
