…Lord in Your Mercy.…Hear our Prayer. 1 Let us come before the throne of God’s grace and present our petitions with confidence in the Spirit through our Lord Jesus to His heavenly Father, for He is kind and full of compassion. 2 Faithful Father, in the fullness of time You sent Your Son into the womb of the Blessed Virgin that there might finally be a Man who fully did Your will and so bring all people back to You. Give Your baptized people grace to welcome their Savior’s birth with songs of joy and shouts of deliverance, for He is truly our Emmanuel. 3 As Mary heard, believed and treasured the Words spoken by the angel, so grant to all pastors, deaconesses, teachers and other servants of Your Church a love for Your Word and a fervent desire to proclaim its promises.

4 Ruler of Israel, Ancient of Days, to you we commend our government, all who hold offices of public trust, and all in our armed forces, especially those in these days serving far from home and loved ones. Strengthen and uphold them in honor, protect them from evil and guide them in paths that are pleasing to You. 5 O King whose mercy is on all who fear Him from generation to generation, in the days ahead many will come to Your services who do not make a regular use of Your means of grace. Touch their hearts, renew their minds and stir up in them a hunger for You and Your good gifts that they may return often to Your house and feast on Your bounty with all Your faithful.

6 Father, You sent Your Son into the flesh to be our Good Shepherd and the very gift of peace. We beg that peace for all who are sad in these days, for the grieving and lonely, the forgotten and homeless, the refugee and the imprisoned, the widows and the orphans, the poor and the needy and all who cry out for healing and mercy upon their broken lives [especially___________].,7 God our Savior, You gave Your Son to be the Bread of Life, born for us in Bethlehem, the House of Bread. Grant all your children who commune this day both repentance for their sin and faith in Your unfailing mercy, that they might receive the body and blood of their Savior in a worthy manner and to their abundant blessing. 8 O God our Father, by the

offering of Your Son’s body, once and for all, You have sanctified Your people and freed them from destruction and promised to raise them from the grave. Receive our praise this day for Mary, Elizabeth, Zechariah, Joseph and all your faithful ones who have trusted in Your promises and fallen asleep in Your friendship. Give us grace to walk before You with faith like theirs and bring us at last with them to the joyous light of Your heavenly Kingdom. 9 These things and whatever else You know us to need, most Holy Father, grant us for the sake of Him who is Emmanuel, the God who is with us, and who now lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. AMEN

Deuteronomy 18:15-19A New Prophet like Moses15 “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— 16 just as you desired of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORDmy God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ 17 And the LORD said to me, ‘They are right in what they have spoken. 18 I will raise

up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.

Philippians 4:4-7English Standard Version (ESV)4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to

God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 1:19-28The Testimony of John the Baptist19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said, “I am the

voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight[a] the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”24 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) 25 They asked him,“Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, 27 even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Luke 1:39-56Mary Visits Elizabeth39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, 42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be[a] a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Mary's Song of Praise: The Magnificat46 And Mary said,“My soul magnifies the Lord,

47     and my spirit rejoices in God my

Savior,48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.    For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me,    and holy is his name.50 And his mercy is for those who fear him    from generation to generation.51 He has shown strength with his arm;    he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones    and exalted those of humble estate;53 he has filled the hungry with good things,    and the rich he has sent away empty.54 He has helped his servant Israel,    in remembrance of his mercy,55 as he spoke to our fathers,    to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

56 And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.

of his works,    in giving them the inheritance of the nations.7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;    all his precepts are trustworthy;8 they are established forever and ever,    to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.9 He sent redemption to his people;    he has commanded his covenant forever.    Holy and awesome is his name!10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;    all those who practice it have a good understanding.    His praise endures forever!

Share Time: FOURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT (Rorate Coeli) Deuteronomy 18:15–19Philippians 4:4–7John 1:19–28or Luke 1:39–56 John the Baptizer Points Everyone to the Messiah The coming of God in all His unveiled power at Mount Sinai was terrifying to the people of Israel. The thundering voice of the Lord puts sinners in fear of death (Deut. 18:15–19). God, therefore, raised up a prophet like Moses—the Messiah, the Christ. God came to His people veiled in human flesh. The skies poured down the Righteous One from heaven; the earth opened her womb and brought forth Salvation (Introit) through the blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of the Lord (Luke 1:39–56). The fruit of her womb is the very Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, the One whose sandal strap John was not worthy to loose (John 1:19–28). In Jesus we are delivered from fear and anxiety. In Him alone we have the peace of God which surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:4–7).
