    Your unit is powered by two CR-2032lithium, 3-volt batteries. Follow theseeasy instructions to install or replacethem.

    1. Turn your unit over.2. Lift the battery cover on the

    back of your unit by pushingon the catch.

    3. Install the batteries with thepositive side facing up.

    4. Replace the battery cover.

    Warning: If the batteries wear-outcompletely, or if you take more thanapproximately a minute while changingthe batteries, any information that wasentered in this Bible or an installedbook card will be erased. You shouldalways keep written copies of your im-portant information.

    Once a book card is installed in the unit,you can select which book you want touse.1. Turn your unit on.2. Press CARD .

    ➤ Learn-a-Verse

    Your Bible comes with a Learn-a-Versefeature. Each time you turn your Bibleon, you can see a verse from either theOld or New Testament for you to reador memorize. If you wish to turn thisfeature on, press MENU . HighlightSetup, use to highlight Learn-a-Verse on and press ENTER .To turn the feature off, highlight Learn-a-Verse off and press ENTER .

    You can view a demonstration or tutorial ofthis Bible any time you want.1. Press MENU .2. Use the arrow keys to highlight

    Setup.3. Press ENTER to select Tutorial or

    use to highlight View Demoand press ENTER .To stop the demonstration or exit fromthe Tutorial press CLEAR .

    When a book card is installed in yourFranklin platform, select View Demo fromthe Setup menu to see the demonstrationfor that card.

    Using the IndexIndex contains a list of popular chap-ters with their titles, arranged in the or-der that they appear in the Bible.

    1. Press MENU .2. Use or to highlight Index

    and press ENTER to select it.

    3. Use or to highlight aselection, or type the nameof the book, chapter andverse that you wish to view,and press ENTER to select it. For example, to highlight Isaiah25:1, type isaiah251.To type numbers, hold f n andpress q-p.

    4. Press CLEAR when done.

    Viewing Devotional VersesDevotional contains a list of inspirationalverses selected by Johnny Cash.

    1. Press MENU .2. Use to highlight Devotional

    and press ENTER to select it.

    3. Use or to highlight aselection, or type the nameof the month (abbreviated)and the day whose selectionyou wish to view, and pressENTER to select it.For example, to see the Devotionalverse for Oct. 7, you must typeoct7. There is no need to type theperiod and space.

    4. Press CLEAR when done.

    ➤ Resuming Where You Left Off

    You can turn your electronic Bibleoff at any passage. When you turnit on again, the last passage thatyou viewed appears, unless youhad previously turned on the Learn-A-Verse feature. If Learn-A-Verse ison, you will see a verse for you tomemorize. Note: If you have Learn-A-Verse on, and wish to return toyour last viewed passage, place abookmark before your turn yourBible off.

    Finding Bible Verses Finding Bible Verses

    To go directly to a specific Bible verse,enter its book title, chapter number, andverse number.If you enter only a book title and chapternumber, you will go to the start of thechapter. If you enter only a book title,you will go to the start of that book.

    1. Press CLEAR .

    2. Type a book title, chapternumber, and verse number.

    Note: Type the initial letters of abook and the title will be completedfor you. For example, type la forLamentations, le for Leviticus or lufor Luke.To find a book that has more thanone volume, you need to type the

    numeral first. For example, to find IICorinthians 5 1, type 2co51.To type numbers, hold f n andpress q-p.

    3. Press ENTER to read.

    4. Use , f n + or SPACE toscroll down.

    5. Press CLEAR when done.

    Searching for Words Searching for Words

    Just as if you were using a concor-dance, you can search for almost anyword or phrase in this Bible. Simply en-ter search words to find their occur-rences, or matches.

    1. Press SEARCH .2. Type your search word(s). For

    example, type kingdom ofGod.You can type up to 35 letters. Totype a space, press SPACE .Note: You cannot search for com-mon words such as and and the ontheir own.

    3. Press ENTER to start the search.

    After a word search, only thosebooks with matches are listed in theMenu.

    4. Use or to highlight themenu item you want, andpress ENTER to see the name(s)of the book(s) with thematches. For example, selectNew Testament.

    You may also hold f n and pressENTER to go directly to the text. Youwill go to the first match.

    5. Use or to highlight thebook you want, and pressENTER to see the name(s) ofthe chapters with thematches. For example, selectLuke.

    ➤ If You Misspell Words

    If you enter a misspelled word, orenter a word not in this Bible, spell-ing corrections appear. Select thecorrection that you want from thelist, or press BACK to change yourrequest.

    6. Use or to highlight thechapter you want, and pressENTER to see the text. Forexample, select chapter 6.

    Note that the main search wordsare boxed.

    7. Press f n + or to see thenext or previous match (ifany).

    8. Press CLEAR when done.

    ➤ Using MatchMaker

    Your Bible has a MatchMaker fea-ture to help you find words. If youare unsure of the spelling orcompletion of a word, use ✳ tostand for one or more letters in aword. For example, to findZaphnathpaaneah, type zaph✳.

    Press ENTER to select the high-lighted word.

    You can either continue to highlighta menu item and press ENTER till youcome to text, or you can hold f nand press ENTER to go directly to thetext.

    Viewing FootnotesViewing Footnotes

    Whenever you see a after a wordin a verse, that word has a footnote.You can easily view these footnotes.Try this example.

    1. Go to Psalms 18:2.To learn how, see “Finding Bible Verses.”

    3. Press BACK to return to theverse.

    Deleting a BookmarkYou can delete any bookmark youwant. Note: If you reset your unit, allyour bookmarks will be lost.

    1. Press MARK to view your list ofbookmarks.

    2. Select and go to the versewhose bookmark you wish toremove. For example, if youhad John 1 on your book-mark list, go to the text ofJohn 1.To learn how, please see “Addingand Viewing Bookmarks.”

    3. Press MARK again.

    Remove: …, (the last viewed book-mark) appears as the first list item,and is highlighted.

    4. Press ENTER to remove thebookmark.

    If the keyboard fails to respond, or ifthe screen performs erratically, followthe steps below.

    1. Hold CLEAR and press (on/off).If nothing happens, try Step 2.

    2. Use a paper clip to gentlypress the reset button onyour unit.The reset button is recessed in apin-sized hole to the right of thebook card slot.

    Warning! Pressing the reset buttonwith more than light pressure may per-manently disable your unit. In addition,resetting your unit erases settings andinformation entered in your Bible and inan installed book card.

    Resetting Your Unit

    This Bible can transfer words to cer-tain BOOKMAN book cards. To senda word to another book, you mustfirst install a book card in your unit,and that book card must be able tosend or receive words. To learn if abook card can send or receivewords, read its User’s Guide.

    1. Highlight a word in thisBible.To highlight a word in Bible text,press ENTER to start the highlight,and use the arrow keys to movethe highlight to the word youwant.

    2. Hold f n and press CARD .3. Highlight the icon of the

    other book.4. Press ENTER .
