THANK YOU TO OUR P&C

On behalf of all the students and staff of Holsworthy PS, I would like to thank our P&C and school community for their generosity in donating $5000.00 towards refurbishing our school library and for all the hard work before the night and on the night of our school disco. All students who attended looked like they were having a terrific time. It is great to know that funds raised by the many HPS P&C activities go right back to our students in the classroom to further enhance their learning experiences. Please continue to show your support of the P&C by supporting their events and attending meetings. SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL IN 2021-YEAR 5 STUDENTS

Year 5 students are reminded that all applications for Selective High School Year 7 in 2021 must be made online and applications close on Monday 11 November 2019. Please see Mrs North if you have any questions.

Student Safety Thank you to all parents who are using the Kiss and Drop zone on Huon Crescent and NOT driving into our staff car park. Please help keep our students safe by obeying road traffic requirements and not parking in no-stopping areas. Tammy Deiri

REMEMBRANCE DAY Holsworthy Public School would like to extend an invitation to our school community to attend our Remembrance Day Service. It will be held on Monday 11 November at 10:15am. We hope you can join us under the cola as we remember. Lest we forget.

SPORTS AND EXTRA CURRICULAR PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION The sports and extracurricular photography session will be held on Thursday 7 November 2018. If your child has participated in PSSA or attended a Zone sports carnival, their photo will be taken with their team. Additionally, photos will be taken if your child has participated in the junior or senior dance ensembles, Tournament of Minds teams, debating teams, drama ensemble or Indigenous choir.

Students in a sports team will be required to change into a school sport jersey for their photo. These children are asked to label their school shirt and have a labelled plastic bag to place their shirt in while their photo is being taken to avoid their uniform going missing.

Parents will be notified through the Skoolbag app, Facebook page and newsletter when the display photos arrive at school. The photos will be displayed in the office and they will be available to order after this day

We look forward to seeing you all again after the summer break in your ‘big school’ uniform. Parents will be sent a letter later in the year to confirm the start date and time for their child.

COLOUR RUN-MAJOR SCHOOL FUNDRAISER

Last Monday, we held the Colour Run. We couldn’t have chosen a better day! Students completed a wide range of obstacles on our back oval and enjoyed having coloured powder thrown at them. All students displayed exceptional behaviour, cooperation and sportsmanship, which helped make the event a big hit!

A big thank you to all staff for your assistance, the P&C for contributing their time and resources and Mr Felix for providing us with equipment for the obstacles. Your support and effort are truly appreciated.

Thank you to all students who have returned their Sponsorship Forms and for the money raised so far. We have raised $15302.40. If you are yet to hand in your sponsorship form, please ensure you return it to your classroom teacher as soon as possible.

YEAR 5 SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOLS – INTENTION TO APPLY FOR YEAR 7 ENTRY IN 2021

Selective high schools cater for academically high potential and gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard. Selective schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials.

Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2021, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from late-September 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7

The application website opens at that link on 8 October 2019 and closes at 10pm on 11 November 2019. You must apply before the closing date.

Remember: the tear-off slip below is NOT an application and the school cannot apply on your behalf. Cut along the dotted line and return the completed slip below by next Friday 1 November 2019.

SSW REGIONAL WOOLWORTHS BLAST CRICKET CUP

On Thursday 31 October, two senior teams consisting of eighteen students travelled to Grahame Thomas Oval, Bankstown to compete in the Sydney South West Regional Woolworths Blast Cricket Cup. It was an excellent day of cricket, with students from many schools around the region taking part in the highly competitive event. Holsworthy Public School participated excellently throughout the day, with one team placing 4th overall and the other placing 8th. Our school was also very close to winning a catching competition held on the day, placing third overall. Every student is to be commended for displaying great sportsmanship, a positive attitude and competing to the best of their ability.
