Experience holidays in destination Posavje in South-East region of Slovenia which consist of the municipality Radeče, Sevnica, Krško, Brežice, Kostanjevica na Krki and Bistrica ob Sotli. Main part of Posavje represent the Sava River valley and Krško- Brežice field stretching from Gorjanci to Posavje hills. You can choose between 50 biking tours, which are long from 16 to 60 km and are part of the 1,500 km long biking network .

Posavje is suitable for family biking trip, for mountain bikers, road bikers or extreme adrenalin enthusiasts.

You can also explore the region with e-bikes, which can be rented from tourist providers. All trails offer splendid views and leads through the vineyards, orchards, fields and meadows.

From May to the end of October enjoy relaxing ride with timber raft in Radeče.

Indulge in various water sports and activities on the river Sava and Krka, like canoeing and kayaking. Don’t miss adventure of water surfing in First wake park.

For adrenalin enthusiasts try go-kart races in Krško, paintball or skydiving and parachute jump from Lisca.

The visitors can participate in numerous activities in nature; some more relaxing and others quite adventurous.

In destination you can find a variety of hiking and biking trails that allow you to genuinely experience the natural beauty and learn about cultural and historical stories. Most of the trails you can visit all year round if you are properly

equipped and weather is on your side. Trails offer a wide choice of walks for all ages and in addition to unique experiences also offer wine-gastronomic and accommodation offer. Every year there is a regional walking-cycling festival held in May and June. Large groups of walkers can stay in modern youth hostels in town or in countryside.

You can visit unique ecosystems like Jovsi, Krakovski gozd, Gorjanci and Bohor. Jovsi are one of the most preserved natural landscapes of wetland and Bohor prides itself with fresh waterfalls. The thickest Slovenian oak tree awaits for you in Cundrovec near Brežice. The magnificent giant of incredible proportions- the thickest chestnut is hidden in Močilno near Radeče. You can also observe birds (corncrake, black stork) and other animals (moor frog). In this region a few energy points that restore life energy were also discovered (Dunaj, Šentvid, Jatna). In April and May visit habitat of Azalea pontica in blossom yellow glory.

Nature has created numerous beautiful features in this small peace of land.

Unique caves, called 'repnice', with images that nature left behined, can be find in Bizeljsko. They are used to store wine and there is no coolest place on summer to have a glass of local wine.

Discover the magical and misterious world of the underground caves of Kostanjevica and Ajdovska cave.

Kozjanski Park is one of the oldest and the most extensive protected areas in Slovenia. Points of interest within the Posavje region include a picturesque rock in shape of a woman called Ajdovska žena, beautiful gorges Bistrica and Zelenjak, churches and chapels and many more.

Cultural heritageLearn all about the Trappists life in recently renovated Rajhenburg Castle. Castle Mokrice together with18-hole Golf Course is also a venue for business and social events. Don't miss other exceptional locations with magnificent castles- Brežice, Podsreda, Bizeljsko, Pišece with their own interesting stories.

Visit Krško Town Museum and fell the spirit of Janez Vajkard Valvasor and Josipina Hočevar. The oldest religious and pilgrimage center in Slovenia is also located in region Posavje (Svete Gore).

The rich cultural heritage can be discovered in the land of Ostrovrhars in the village of Svibno where the feudal dynasty Svibenjski used to live and among them, the most famous Viljem Ostrovrhar.

This was home to numerous famous personalities, who left a special mark on the Slovene cultural history. Visit picturesque towns and small villages that reveal their rich architectural and historical value. Posavje region is full of cultural sites such as castles, archaeological findings, different ethnological collections and numerous churches. Standing at 46 meters, Water tower is the most prominent building in Brežice, giving the town its characteristic appearance.

Kostanjevica na Krki is a picturesque town, situated on an artificial island on the Krka River. It is the smallest Slovenian town and has been proclaimed a cultural monument. The most significant sight off the island is a former Cistercian monastery founded in 1234. It is one of the most important cultural monuments in Slovenia and famous for its 260 arches that embrace the monastery yard, one of the largest of its kind in Europe.The monastery also houses the Božidar Jakac Gallery with a permanent collection of famous painters.

Many Castles in Posavje region are the center of cultural life and also great locations for weddings. Visit wine cellar in Sevnica Castle and have a stroll through the park.

Krško trail is a looped walk and leads from the pond known as archaeological site of the early Iron Age, past the vineyards to the highest point of the trail where is the mountain hut and beautiful view.

Trappist hiking tour VID trailBrestanica hiking trail

Hiking trail leads past various cultural sites. In the past one part of the trail was used by the Trappist monks to transport wine. The last stop of trail is Rajhenburg Castle owned by the Trappists from 1881 to 1941.

The trail takes you through mixed forest to the rocks called fox caves. Trail leads through meadows past the chapel and the community church up to the top of the hill with beautiful views.

Along the forest path uphill to the church where is the wonderful view of the Castle Rajhenburg, the river and the surrounding hills. The trail leads past the water tank and the fresh spring of the stream. Unspoiled nature around the fish ponds is ideal place for a summer picnic.

The Josipina Hočevar looped trail starts in old part of town Krško. There is Kapucin library and the monuments that remind us of city benefactor Josipina Hočevar. From there it leads past the various churches, to the Square, to the Town Park, up to a small hill and back to the old town.

The “Tk Pav” Hiking Trail discovers natural sights, particularly the flora and fauna of the area. This is a legacy of the mine, which operated up to the 1960s. Here, you will discover the diversity of the forest, Tk Pav” area is the perfect forest spot for learning new things.

Ajdovski gradec trail

The Azalea Boštanj Nature Trail is a circular trail combining the precious pearls of nature along the 6km long hiking trail. The focus of the trail is the habitat of the Yellow Azaleas, which are located on the hill overgrown with forest above the centre of the area, which has been named “Gavge” (gallows) ever since the Middle Ages.

The Sun and Wine Trail invites you to the hills with the most beautiful wine-growing locations, which have been appreciated for its worth for ages. The trail leads past several point of natural and cultural heritage and offers a nice view to place, which according to the legend is called a “sunny place”. There is no coincidence that these hills were cultivated for wine-growing production by the local landlords, prominent foreigners (Thierry) and the Counts of Attems.

Uskok’s heritage trail

Gazice trail

The circular and extremely scenic trail takes you around Kostanjevica na Krki. The trail takes you past the cultural heritage associated with refugees from Bosnia and Dalmacija (Croatia seaside region) named 'Uskoki' which fled from the Ottoman troops to a more secure area in the 16th century. The hikers and cyclists are thrilled by the breathtaking views over the idyllic city and the famous Božidar Jakac Gallery.

The cycling tour leads on the slope of the hill, among the vineyards, where the forest is slowly outgrowing the highland meadows. It takes us back to the time of our grandmothers. Along the trail we can visit the churches; watchtower built in the time of Turkish invasions and admire views over the valley, field and forest all the way to the Slovenian Alps (mountains).

On the way you can admire attractions like churches, sculpture of lion and the 150-year-old wooden bridge over the river Krka, which gives you a beautiful view of the swans on the island in the middle of the river. Forest offer mushrooming picking and river Krka in addition to swimming offers boating.

Hiking trail Savus

The Savus educational trail is a nearly 5km long circular trail, which is based on an innovative interpretation of natural and cultural heritage and draws attention to the significance of the water resources, flora and fauna for the city and its surroundings. The symbol that depicts these trails is the antique river god Savus, since a large portion of the trail is situated along the River Sava, which is at the same time also one of the most beautiful and longest fishing trails in Europe.
