We expect the DETOUR to be in effect for at least six (6) weeks while the Bridge is repaired and we thank everyone for their cooperation during this project. Please DO NOT call the office to request the office to let people into the community on your behalf. Per The Board of Directors, the Office is NOT responsible for and won’t let YOUR visitors, relatives, guests, contractors, or vendors into the community. DIVISION -D PARKING 1 - Parking of vehicles will be restricted to the designated parking areas at the community building and the lakes, or individual driveways. 2 - There shall be no parking on the roads at any time. There have been numerous complaints received at the office about people speeding throughout the community. There are elderly residents and young children walking, riding bikes, and playing on their properties which are near to the roads. With winter upon us there will be inclement weather that affects road conditions. We urge everyone driving in our community to exercise caution and to please obey the 20 MPH Speed Limit posted throughout our community!! Many members of our community have called our office to advise you have scrap metal that you want to donate to the Association. If you want to donate scrap metal to us, please call our office (570-722-9464) and we will make immediate arrangements with you to pick up your donations. We thank you for your generosity. Regarding our various Children Events, we cannot stress enough to you just how important and imperative it is that when you are asked to do so, you follow our request to register your children and grandchildren by the assigned due date(s). This enables us to ensure that we have enough for all participating children. This registration in advance request has been our process for many years now and we have continued to see a growing number of people just showing up for a published event without having registered with the office in advance as required. This causes distress to those who work so hard to volunteer their time and efforts to make things fun for your children and grandchildren when extra kids just “show up” and results in the possibility of our running out of food, candy, etceteras for those that have followed the rules. We are respectfully requesting that you as parents, grandparents, and guardians be more responsible to your children and grandchildren and more considerate of those who work to make these events happen and adhere to our request to register your children and grandchildren accordingly. Please also keep in mind that the Board of Directors meets monthly on the 3 rd Friday of each month. You are more than welcome to attend a monthly meeting. If you have any suggestions for the Board, please put them in writing and address them to the office at PO BOX 57, Albrightsville, PA. 18210. We look forward to hearing from you. HOLIDAYS, 2014 HOLIDAY POCONO TIMES PAGE 5

IN MEMORIAMHoliday Pocono offers

our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have recently left us.

Al Lafferty of Stoneybrook Drive passed away after a long illness on Friday, July 11, at his home. Mr. Lafferty was a long time resident of Holiday Pocono. He will be greatly missed by his family friends, and neighbors.

Robert F. Fernandez Sr. 81, of Albrightsville, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, with his beloved wife of 57 years at his side. They would have celebrated their 58th anniversary on Sept. 1.

Robert was a man of integrity and honor. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend, having loving relationships with all.

Robert was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on April 5, 1933. He was the son of Henry and Catherine

(Moleski) Fernandez. Robert had proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee.

He retired from David Brearley Regional High School as a custodian and spent his retirement years in Pennsylvania.

Robert had a lifelong passion, from the tender age of 6 years old, for “The sweet science”. . . boxing. He authored two books on the subject: “Four Crumbling Houses Ten Count,” and just released weeks before his passing, “Boxing in New Jersey, 1900-1999.” These works were true labors of love for Robert. He was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame, and of this, he was so proud. He was also a member of IVBA Ring No. 25.

Robert is survived by the love of his life, Mary Ann (Lenard). He is also survived by his children: Robert, Sandra and her husband, Scott, and Lynn; and his loving grandchildren: Karen and her husband, Jeremy,

James Robert, Catherine, Stephanie and Steven. He is survived by his brothers, Henry and Ronald and his wife, Arlene, and many nieces and nephews; his beloved “granddogs:” Bone, Nell, Sadie, Kelso, Violet, Ace, Twist and Rayne, and his cats, Ziggy and Mitzie.

Private services were held for Robert and cremation was entrusted to Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame, 59 Kill Ave., Lodi, N.J. 07644.

Peggy J. (Derstine) Ronnie, 82, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, in her Pottstown home. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald S. Ronnie. Born on Jan. 16, 1930, in Perkasie, Peggy was a daughter of the late Abram N. and Ruth H. (Landis) Derstine. In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by her four children, Derek S.

Ronnie, Pottstown; Cynthia J., wife of Kenneth J. Kirschner, Franconia Twp.; Kirk Y. Ronnie, Nashville, TN, and Tad D. Ronnie, Reading; her two grandchildren, Kirsten G. Kirschner and Sean S. Kirschner; and her siblings, Ruth D. Frech, Mifflinberg; Joyce E. Bauer, Pleasant Hill, TN, Helen A. Brown, Maysville, GA, and Rev. William A. Derstine, Pleasant Hill, TN. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jac D. Derstine. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mennonite Heritage Center, 565 Yoder Road, Harleysville, PA.

Donald S. Ronnie, husband of the late Peggy J. (Derstine) Ronnie, died Monday, May 26, 2014 in his Pottstown home. Don, or Donnie as his mom always called him, was born April 9, 1931, in Maplewood, N.J. He was a son of the late Stephen Y. and Florence (Buob) Ronnie. As a lanky, 6’3” star basketball player at Columbia High School, Don earned the nickname “Needle.” He was a standout in basketball and baseball at Colgate University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1954 and a master’s degree in 1955. After college, he spent a summer playing semi-pro baseball in Iowa. He declined an offer to pitch in the minor leagues and chose to follow his dream of coaching high school basketball. Don fulfilled that dream when he was named The Hill School’s head varsity boys basketball coach in 1955. Coach Ronnie guided the program to more than 400 wins during his 36 seasons on the bench. He stepped down in 1992 but continued to help the

program as an assistant for another 17 seasons, a career of more than 50 years on the sidelines of Hill basketball games. Fittingly, it was through that dream position that Don met his loving wife, Peggy, who was working as a secretary for The Hill’s athletic department in the 1950s. Mr. Ronnie taught mathematics at The Hill until his retirement in 2001 after 46 years, a tenure that also included time as Dean of Students, varsity golf coach and assistant baseball coach. In 1993, Don was inducted into the Tri-County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. In 2001, the center circle of Gillison Court was named in his honor. In 2012, Don was inducted into The Hill School Athletics Hall of Fame. Don was a life member of the Pottstown Elks lodge, where he enjoyed many seasons of league bowling. He was a tenacious blood donor and an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and college basketball. His summers were often spent in the Poconos operating a one-man lawn-care business well into his 70s. Don is survived by his children, Derek S. Ronnie, Pottstown; Cynthia J., wife of Kenneth J. Kirschner, Franconia Twp.; Kirk Y. Ronnie, Nashville, Tenn.; and Tad D. Ronnie, Reading; grandchildren, Kirsten G. and Sean S. Kirschner; and his brother, Stephen Ronnie, Ashland, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Glenn Ronnie and Gail H. McCloskey. Memorial contributions may be made to The Hill School’s Donald S. Ronnie Scholarship Fund.
