Lindsay is joined by his colleagues to display the school supply collection for Every Child’s Dream. The Legislature collects school supplies for the charity’s “Backpack Pirates” event. The non-for-profit group organizes the event, which brings needy children to Fire Island for a day of fun and sends them home with a backpack full of school supplies. Legislator Lindsay is proud to support such a worthy cause. Congratulations to the SYAG girls 10u travel softball team. The girls won the National league NJBL championship. The team went 13-0-1. The Sachem Library Fall Festival Saturday, September 12 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Welcome the autumn season with a harvest-time celebration at Sachem Public Library on September 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Activities, crafts, contests, and entertainment abound with a guaranteed good time for everyone. You will enjoy a live DJ, mime, pumpkin decorating contest, craft show and sale, and home-made pie baking contest. There will also be story-telling, face painting, tattoos, pony rides (11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.), a bounce house, pet- ting zoo and relay races for the kids. With a food drive, book sale and hot dogs, beverages and snacks available, the Library is truly a center for family fun! Don’t let your enjoyment end with the fair. In1957an8yearoldgirlwasstruckbyacarwhileridingherbicycle.Herrightlegsustainedthreecompoundfractureswhichneededtwosurgeriestorepair.Thelittlegirlspent8weeksinthehospital,inacomaandmonthsuponmonthsafterinacastthatwrappedaroundhermid-sectionandright(shattered) leg thatwasput back togetherwithplatesandpins.The doctors told her parents shewouldneveragainwalkorrunlikeotherkidsbecauseshewouldneedtowearabraceonherlegfortherestofherlife.Whentheparentsexplainedthesitu-ation to the littlegirl, shebegan tocryandvowedthat thatwouldnothappen.Thelittlegirlwasdeterminednottoacceptthisfateandwantedtobelikeeveryoneelse.Notadaypassedthathermotherdidn’thavetoscoldherforpullingherselfupandstandingonthebed.Sheneversatstill,movingherbodyandflexingherlegcontinuously.Wellmiracleofmiracles–thedaycamewhenthecastwastakenoffandthelittlegirlwasabletostumbleacrosstheroom.Thedoctorsandherparentswereamazed.Howcouldthisbe?Astimepassed,thelittlegirlbecamestrongerandwasabletowalkjustlikeeveryoneelse.Notonlydidshewalk,shegrewuptoplaysportsandworkedinaprofessionfor26yearsthatkeptheronherfeetformanyhoursaday.Determinationisamazing.Wecanaccomplishanythingwesetourmindsto.TheotherdayIdidsomethingthatIneverdreamedIcoulddo–Ifixedthetoiletbowl.Youmightlaugh,butthisisabigaccomplishmentforme.I’musuallythefirsttoruntothetelephonetocallwhoeverneedstobecalledtofixwhateverneedstobefixed,but“thetimestheyareachanging”.IwasdeterminedtodothisandIdid–ofcoursewithhelp.IhadthepleasureofverbalassistancefromKennyatSayvillePlumbingSupplies.HeexplainedtheproceduretomeandassuredmethatIcoulddoit.Well,hewasright–Ididitandthankstohim,Ididn’tevengetdirty–hetoldmetoweargloves.Okay,nowthatI’vebecomeJosephine,theplumber,what’snext?Determination–that’smywordforthemonth.Youcandowhateveryouwantorbewhoeveryouwanttobe–allthat’sneededisde-termination.Determinationhelpsuscompletesmalldeeds–likefixingtoiletsorimportantlifechang-ingdeedslikelearningtowalk.Remember-Ifyouthinkyoucan–guesswhat?–Youcan!Happyliving!!!!!!!

Motorvehiclecrashesaretheleadingcauseofinjuryanddeathamongteenagers.Theriskformotorvehiclecrashesishigheramong16-to19-year-oldsthananyotheragegroup,withinexperienceanddistractionsnotedasthemaincauses.Everyyear,over5,000teensdieincarcrashes.Thatequatesto14teensdyingeveryday.Additionally,another300,000areinjuredannually.Althoughthesestatisticshaveimprovedslightlyfromlastyear,theyarestillunacceptable.Fartoomanyteensarestilldying,andtherealityisthatmanyofthesecrashesarepreventable.
