Music has always occupied the human mind in various forms. It is a medium of expression. In fact emotions are better expresed through music than any other medium. When these expressions need to be “Performed”, one has to find the rationale and logic behind them. The natural tendency of expressing oneself through music (Vocal, Instrumental and Dance) needs to be analysed and studied in all its aspects. This is where it becomes a “Technique”.All intentional actions are governed by techniques and this is the theme of the International Seminar this year.We intend to give our students an insight into the world of Performance which is both an Art and Abhyas- rigorous practice of technique.Bhatkhande Music Institute is grateful to the experts and all others for their contributions to this International Seminar and hopes for their continuous support in future.

- AN OVERVIEW-

Due to relentless efforts of Pt. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande and

some sincere connoisseurs of art, Bhatkhande Music Institute

Deemed To Be University , Lucknow was established in 1926 and

named, “Marris College of Music”.

The Institute was acquired by State Government in 1966 and

renamed Bhatkhande College of Indian Music.

The Institute was granted the status of Deemed University in

2000 and further renamed Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed

To Be University .

Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed To Be University has

following five faculties :-

§ Vocal Music :– Classical and Semi Classical.

§ Instrumental Music Percussion :– Tabla and Pakhawaj.

§ Instrumental Music Non Percussion: – Sitar, Sarangi,

Flute, Guitar, Violin, Harmonium.

§ Dance:– Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri and Folk

Dance.

§ Musicology :–

The Institute offers the following degrees and

Master in Performing Arts (M.P.A.).

Bachelor in Performing Arts (B.P.A.).

Praveshika, Parichay, Prabuddha, Parangat.
