10 years ago, I found architecture is my only dream and gave up my engineering job and decided to study architecture and to become an architect. Receiving this YAA award has given me great encouragement and confidence that the decision made 10 years ago is worthwhile to me and my family. I would like to thank my parents, my wife and my son for their unlimited support and being with me to overcome all difficult times.

Six mentors of mine are important in my architectural life and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to them. They are, Prof Patrick Lau, Prof David Lung and Dr. Charlie Xue, who opened the doors for me to study architecture; Mr. Anderson Lee and Ms. Janette Chan, who had given me chances to enjoy working in architectural practice; Mr. KS Wong, who has been guiding me to understand core values of being an architect.

Thanks all of you! I will definitely keep on equipping myself for being an all-rounded architect and utilize my multi-disciplinary knowledge to serve the community.

Fanny Ang

Fanny is one of the few young architects working in conservation. She received her training in architecture at the University of Hong Kong. Following architectural studies at the University of Hong Kong, several years of architectural practice, an internship in UNESCO Asia-Pacific Headquarter and graduation from a further study in MSc (Conservation), she joined the HKSAR Government to work as a conservation architect and has involved in a number of historic building adaptive reuse projects in Hong Kong. With her talent and enthusiasm in conservation, she won the “Revitalization of Tai O Design Competition” in 2008 and the ACC Professor Eric Lye Architectural Education Fund Fellowship 2010, apart from the YAA 2010.

I feel very honoured to receive the award. While having doubts in my career, this award has given me support in continuing my works. The Competition has also brought me the chance to receive from the Asian Cultural Council another award – the Professor Eric Lye Architectural Education Fund Fellowship 2010. Thanks to the YAA Juries, ACC and the Sponsor who give me an opportunity to learn and enrich myself though a trip to the States. To me, this bears a special meaning as well. I will never forget my very first teacher in architecture – Professor Eric Lye, who showed me a new world and changed my life. Thank you Professor!
