Installation Handset cord Connect the long end of the handset cord to the socket marked with the symbol (item 15). Insert the cord into the cable duct (item 16) and attach the short end to the handset.

Line cord Connect the line cord to the socket marked with the symbol (item 17). Insert the cord into the cable duct (item 18). Attach the other end to the telephone jack (RJ11).

Recommendations for installation Please observe the following guidelines: • For your own safety and protection, do

not use the telephone in locations with extreme heat or humidity. The telephone is designed to operate at temperatures between +5ºC and +50ºC and is not water-proof.

• Some parts of the telephone, such as the rubber feet, may leave marks on varnished furniture.

• Place the telephone at least one meter away from devices such as cordless phones or TV sets. These devices may cause interference with the telephone.

• Use a damp or antistatic cloth to clean the telephone. Never use a dry cloth (danger of electrostatic discharge) or abrasive cleaning agents.

• When the telephone reaches the end of its service life, dispose of it in an environmentally friendly fashion, in accordance with the local legal requirements.

Configuration Once the telephone has been connected to the line, you can use it to make or receive phone calls. In its initial state, the display will be switched off. When the handset is lifted, the display will show three dashes. The next few paragraphs describe which configurations that can be programmed via the telephone menu. To make any adjustments, the handset must be off-hook. Setting the ringer volume This telephone has six ringer volume settings which can be adjusted as follows:

Press the MENU key Setting the handset volume This telephone allows you to adjust the handset volume in six different levels. To set the desired volume, proceed as follows:

Setting the hands-free volume This telephone allows you to adjust the hands-free volume in six different levels. To set the desired volume, proceed as follows:

Setting the dialing mode (tone/pulse) Your telephone must be set to TONE dialing or PULSE dialing, depending on the telephone line it is connected to. The default factory setting is TONE dialing with a flash time of 250 ms (DTMF). Checking the dialing mode: Press any numeric key. If you can still hear a dialing tone, change to the other dialing mode. Changing the dialing mode: To set the dialing mode to PULSE or TONE, proceed as follows:

Press the MENU key Temporary change of dialing mode: While the telephone is set to PULSE dialing it may be necessary to temporarily change the dialing mode to TONE dialing. • Example: You want to check your

banking balance using a telebanking service. Make the call in the usual way, and once the connection has been established, press . The dialing mode will now change to TONE dialing. When you have finished the call, replace the handset and the telephone will automatically revert to PULSE dialing.

Other configuration options There are other configuration options that can be accessed by entering codes:

Receiving calls When you receive a call, the telephone will emit a warning tone with the melody and the volume selected. To answer the call, lift the handset or press the HANDS-FREE key

When you dial, the individual digits of the number dialed will appear on the display (item 13 on page 2) and the call will be initiated. If the dialed number has been stored in the phonebook, the display will show the name associated with this number (item 14 on page 2). After a few seconds, the display will no longer show the number dialed but the call timer in MM:SS (minutes and seconds) format. Using the phonebook to make a call

Note: If the last number dialed contains more than 32 digits, the REDIAL function will not work properly.

MUTE key When you press the MUTE key during a call, the microphone is switched off and the other party cannot hear you. The MUTE message will appear on the display while MUTE is activated. To resume a normal conversation, press the MUTE key again. While MUTE is enabled, the other party will hear music on hold (MOH). If necessary, MOH can be disabled. When MOH is disabled, you will be able hear the other party whereas the other party will not be able to hear you. Enabling MOH

Press the MENU key PAUSE key This key can be used when the telephone is connected to a PBX system. It inserts an interdigit pause (the default is 2 seconds – to change this setting see Other configuration option on page 5), starting with the first digit when you press the PAUSE key . These pauses are essential for some systems with extension lines and can be stored in the phonebook, in memories and on the REDIAL key . The display shows the character P above the number dialed to indicate the pause.

FLASH key (special features) The FLASH key allows you to use a number of special features (call forwarding, call waiting, conference, etc.) provided your telephone is connected to a digital Central Office or to a PBX system. The default flash is 250 ms. It may be necessary to program a different flash time (see Other configuration options on page 5). If you are not sure about the correct flash time, refer to the documentation of your PBX. Note: These features will only be available if you purchased them from your local operator.

Memories The telephone has 16 memories (item 12 on page 2). Each of these memories can store up to 32 digits. Storing phone number in the memories To store a new number in one of the 16 memories, proceed as follows:

Note: • Stored phone numbers can be

overwritten by storing other phone numbers in the memory.

• It is possible to store an external telephone number in one of the memories when the telephone is connected to a PBX system. Simply insert the trunk access code followed by

a pause (PAUSE key ) before the phone number you want to store.

• You may have to enter the area code before the phone number.

Phonebook This telephone features a phonebook with 100 number and name entries. Numbers can have up to 16 digits and the names associated with them can have up to 16 characters. The names will be arranged in alphabetical order. Key : - # By pressing the same key repeatedly, you can cycle through the various characters assigned to a key. If the same key is not pressed again for two seconds, the phone will assume that the last character is the one to be selected and the cursor will go to the next position. To delete a character, press the ARROW key or .

Note: • To be able to store numbers in the

phonebook, you may have to enter the area code before the phone number.

• It is possible to store an external telephone number in the Phonebook when the telephone is connected to a PBX system. Simply insert the trunk access code followed by a pause (PAUSE key ) before the phone number you want to store

• When the phonebook is full and the phonebook key is pressed to store a new entry, the message “FULL PHONEBOOK” will be displayed.

To store a new entry, proceed as follows:

Consulting the phonebook To consult the phonebook, lift the handset and press the PHONEBOOK key . The first entry is “< INSERT NEW >” (see Storing numbers and names in the phonebook on page 8). It can be used to enter new names. The ARROW keys and can be used to navigate through the phonebook in alphabetical order (when you reach the last entry, the phonebook returns to the first entry, and vice versa). The numeric keys to can be used to enter letters. Much in the same way as for entering names; the display moves to the first entry with the first letter selected (or the following letter if no entry begins with the first letter). The display will show the name and number of each entry. Deleting entries from the phonebook To delete entries from the phonebook, proceed as follows:

Changing phonebook numbers To change numbers in the phonebook, proceed as follows:

Password The key lock function is protected by a 4-digit password. The default password is 1234 and can be changed. During password entry, a hyphen ("-") will be displayed for each of the digits entered. You can use the ARROW key or to delete the last digit. Changing the password

If the entered password does not match the programmed password, the menu will return to LOCK OPTIONS. If the password was repeated incorrectly, the menu will return to the CHANGE PASSWORD option.

Key lock This telephone features a key lock for mobile phone calls (CELL), long-distance calls (LONG DISTANCE), international calls (INTERNATIONAL) and collect calls (COLLECT CALL). When the lock for long-distance calls is enabled, users cannot make calls to numbers that begin with 0. When the lock for international calls is enabled, users cannot make calls to numbers that begin with 00. When the lock for mobile phones is enabled, users cannot make calls to numbers that begin with 8 or 9. And when the lock for collect calls is enabled, a release signal is sent after the handset has been lifted or after hands-free talking has been activated, to release the connection. This may generate some noise but will not affect normal calls in any way. The message “LOCKED” will be displayed when you dial a locked number. Note: The lock for mobile phone calls may not work properly in some countries due to the numbering plan for mobile phones used in these countries. Locking or unlocking the telephone

Note: If the long-distance call lock (LONG DISTANCE) is enabled, the telephone will also be locked for international calls (INTERNATIONAL). Temporary unlocking of the telephone If you know the password, you can unlock the telephone to make calls. Once a call is completed, the telephone will revert to the most recent lock state. To unlock the telephone temporarily, proceed as follows:
