This year we celebrate two fruitful decades of Tagaytay Highlands. We have come a long way in fulfilling our commitment to give you only the best of mountain resort living.

For 20 years, Tagaytay Highlands has upheld its reputation as the country’s premier leisure resort. We are proud of our breathtaking views of nature and the year-round cool mountain breeze. It is also the country’s finest golf haven, where we have two international golf courses with 45 holes, together with the recent addition of Midlands Lucky 9.

Tagaytay Highlands is like a country populated with choice communities, where people take refuge from the hustle and bustle of city life. Through the years, we have witnessed beautiful dawns and sunsets, marveled at the picturesque view of Taal Lake, and planted trees for the preservation of Mother Nature.

We had our share of extreme forces of nature, but we will build a stronger, better Highlands. We have weathered storms, and we respond by planting more trees and cultivating our forests. As for your Club’s services, our employees are committed to constantly improve the Club for your enjoyment and pleasure, and that of your families for more years to come.

We are happy to fulfill our promise to give you a respite from city living, and we will constantly strive to reach greater heights. These 20 incredible years would not have been possible without all of you. These 20 years have made us stronger, and have inspired us to further the aspiration and hope that Tagaytay Highlands elicits.

Thank you, our dear members, for your confidence and support. We look forward to sharing more happy memories with you.

Happy 20th anniversary to our home: Tagaytay Highlands!

It is awe-inspiring to see what we have accomplished together at Tagaytay Highlands in the past 20 years. The Club has gainedmuch acclaim from hosting some of the country’s most prestigious golf tournaments. In this issue of Highlands View, we look back on our biggest and most competitive games yet. Players were in a festive mood as we brought the styles and sights of traditional Japan to the President’s Cup. We all marveled at the miraculous hole-in-one shots at the Belle Cup. Truly, this was a spectacular year of golf at Tagaytay Highlands.

We would not have reached these milestones were it not for you, the members and homeowners of the Club. With this in mind, we take a peek into the lives of some of our dear friends who each helped bring something special to our community. Take some time to meet Windy and Farah Imperial, the pair who shaped this year’s Belle Cup. Let Jeremy and Agnes Lapeña inspire you with stories of their advocacy and the tournament it started, Tee Up for Down. These couples show that the Club is more than just a place for our families; it is one big family we are all a part of.

On this 20th year of Tagaytay Highlands, we wish you many more fruitful years to come here at the Club!

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

MA. CLARA T. KRAMERGENERAL MANAGER

The Club’s 20th anniversary makes 2014 a momentous milestone year in our community’s history. We’ve had a great deal to celebrate, starting with our Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year parties, along with the exclusive concert by jazz singer Kevyn Lettau and our rollicking Buffet and Concert Event. It is also our pleasure to see works of art on display, from the the Villanuevas’ work in wood and bronze and the Awa family’s collection of religious icons. We’ve also had our time for reflection during Holy Week, and time to be thankful for the two decades we’ve spent together.

Moreover, our anniversary brings the gradual change that comes over our grounds and properties. This year, our multi-million-peso renovation plan enters Phase Two. So far, we have seen upgrades in our Sports Center—and it will be our pleasure to show you its full extent when we ring in 2015 at our New Year’s Party in the Sports Center’s Multi-purpose Hall. In the meantime, our new concessionaires at the Sports Center Veranda will be more than happy to serve us the many cuisines they have in store for us. Read on to find out.

Our 20th anniversary is proving to be an exciting year so far. It’s a good time to be a member. See you at the Club!

RENOVATION

The Club now enters the second phase of its extensive, multimillion-peso renovation plan. The completion of the first phase, which involved the remodeling of the Country Club, Tagaytay Highlands Golf Club, and Camp Highlands, ushers in the next.

Improvements are underway at the Highlander Steakhouse, The Spa & Lodge, the Sports Center, the old Geraldine’s and the Highlands Cinema, the Animal Farm, and the Horse Stable area.

The former Geraldine’s and the Highlands Cinema fronting Camp Highlands will be given a new identity and name as the space will be transformed into a seminar and events center.

Now called Shakes & Soda Pops, as it is designed after 1950s institutions like diners, drive-ins, and carhops, it will be transferred to the bowling lanes atthe second floor of the Sports Center. There, the fifties come alive again, decorated in poodle skirts, Coca-Cola craze signs, and a juke box. Juicy burgers are served while bowlers’ strikes are called out on the lanes, which are now equipped with a newly installed, modern bowling system.

The Sports Center is undergoing a two-part remodeling operation, starting with the second floor area. By September 2014, architect K. Digno P. Asuncion will complete the new veranda, with its interiors decked out in the uniforms and accessories of famous American baseball, basketball, and football athletes. The kits of famous international soccer superstars, like Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, will also find a place on the walls. Hungry sports enthusiasts havea revamped menu from the chefs of Yellow Bricks awaiting them.

The gym, also located on the second floor of the Sports Center, is set to acquire a new set of the latest exercise machines, sure to add more variation to the fitness regimens of its regular goers.

The second part of the Sports Center renovations will be conducted on the facilities located at the ground floor. The new interior additions to the Sports Multi-Purpose Hall and basketball court are sure to transform the New Year’s Party on December 31, 2014, into a grand ballroom affair.

The newly refurbished Highlander Steakhouse will showcase the opening of a third, more spacious private dining room at the lower floor, which was formerly occupied by the Wine Cellar and the Cigar Rooms. Loyal patrons can expect new menu choices and desserts during its reopening.

The landscaping at the Animal Farm will makespace for new attractions and features that will delight young visitors. The waiting and refreshment area for horseback riding patrons at the Horse Stable will get a redesigned façade themed after rustic frontier towns from the Wild West.

The third phase of the renovation plan, which will commence by the second half of 2015, will address the refurbishing of the Midlands Golf Club, Highlands Inn, China Palace Winter and Summer Gardens, Country Club Viewing Deck, and the former Genghis Khan and Highlands Peak Bar.

As a prelude to these renovations, the Club opened a new 7-Eleven branch at the Highlands Golf Club parking area. Club members can find everything they need while at the Club, from home merchandise toquick snacks, and may pay their utility bills at the convenience store.

The millions of pesos worth of renovations, enhancements and improvements to the Club’s structures, facilities, and golf courses were made possible due to the successful implementation of cost efficiency measures since July 2010 which resulted in the allocation of a larger portion of the Club’s funds for these endeavors.

December will not be complete without the Club’s prestigious season-ender, the President’s Cup. Celebrated with great pomp, the two-day golf game at Tagaytay Midlands placed top honors on the Club’s regular patrons while other members and guests enjoyed a superb Asian feast. Richard Tan received the 2013 Low Gross Overall Championship crown at 75-10-43. Division laurels were awarded to (I) Joey Solis at 77, (II) Narciso Dimapilis at 76, (III) Fortunato Dimayuga at 90, guest Felix Dennis Cortez at 90 and (Ladies’ Division) Josephine Ann Cortez at 92.

Belle Cup

Over PhP 10 million worth of prizes was given away for the 2014 Belle Cup, the Club’s grandest 4-day golf tournament. In partnership with Belle Corporation, City of Dreams Manila, and PGA Cars, the tournament assured its golfers of an exciting array of hole-in-one prizes as Tagaytay Highlands celebrated 20 years of the best in mountain resort living.

Aside from the two winners of Audi luxury automobiles during the hole-in-one challenge, a third winner brought home the cash prize of PhP 500,000 from Nissan UN Avenue. Club member Lloyd Ang and guest Roland Lallana each won an Audi worth more than PhP 3 million. On the first day, Ang aced Hole no.17 par 3 at 170 yards, using a Volvik Bismuth #3 ball with an 8 Iron Honma Forged. Golf partner Ramon Navea and flight mates Fidel Bugayong and Toti Scarella witnessed the shot at the Midlands course for the Audi A4 model win.

The following day after the celebration, Ronald Lallana, Dr. Luis Pagtakhan’s guest, made his monumental shot at the Highlands course.

Automotive industry executives and motorsport enthusiasts alike flocked to see the first leg of the annual Auto Rally Corporate Challenge flag off at Tagaytay Highlands on May 31, 2014. Sunshine Television (STV) and Social Communications Foundation for Asia (Socio Com) founded the rallying event with Chevron Philippines as a chief sponsor to fund road safety seminars for high school students.

The ARCC hearkens back to historic rallies, wherein teams must finish a course as closely as possible to its required completion time. Checkpoints which also have their own time requirements line the course, to ensure that teams do not drive too quickly or too slowly. Demerits are given for each second of discrepancy.

Philip Medina, the Club’s senior marketing manager and the event’s organizer, welcomed entrants to the parc fermé at the Highlands Steakhouse parking area.

At the end of the day, the Subaru team was crowned overall winner with the least combined demerits at 2,239. For individual cars, Car #8 from Mini ranked first with 312 demerits.

Other notable moments include Car #21 from Toyota and Car #25 from Ford perfectly matching the prescribed time at Checkpoints #2 and #6, respectively, receiving no demerits for those checkpoints.

A NATURAL SWINGIt is now a familiar sight along the courses at The Midlands.

Scores of club members and guests gather at 8 a.m. sharp to tee off for a golf tournament, and while the players lining up by category at their respective tee-boxes number in the dozens, a teenaged boy occupies one tee-box as its lone entrant. The boy draws his club back and delivers a swing that is precise as it is instinctive. For players at the 11th DSAPI Golf Cup, known fondly as Tee Up for Down, watching Jeremy Lapeña tee off is the tournament’s defining moment.

Jeremy is son to Elmer Lapeña, president of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc., and his wife Agnes, a leading member. While they made the tournament a club mainstay, the couple would say the event’s origins reach much farther. To quote Jérôme Lejeune, the geneticist who discovered that an extra copy of chromosome 21 causes Down syndrome, “Life has a very,

very long history but each individual has a very neat beginning: the moment of its conception.” It is apparent that Jeremy’s birth was a neat beginning to more than just his own life, being the genesis to his parents’ way of life today.

A MARKED TRANSFORMATIONThe day after Jeremy was born with Down syndrome, the

Lapeñas received a sealed envelope from DSAPI. Understandably, the couple opened it after a long period of hesitation. In it, they found details on the organization and its programs. They contacted the main office, and learned more each day about Jeremy’s situation, and how they, as parents, can respond. Uncertainty turned to excitement, they soon became members.

Their excitement then turned into hope and pride as they saw Jeremy ease into a welcoming environment where kindred spirits abound. While it was their mission to open Jeremy and

their compatriots with Down syndrome to opportunities for development, they also wanted their own transformation mirrored in other parents. To this end, they came up with new ways to reach out and promote their cause, with Tee Up for Down meant to attract the athletic crowd.

Prior to the first Tee Up for Down in 2003, Elmer had no golfing experience. He often recounts a joke he told during his introductory speech: “I tried to do a little research on golf and Down syndrome to see if there’s anything in common. I realized that both of them have a handicap.” His sensitivity to these handicaps, in both senses of the term, would grow during the tourney’s move to Tagaytay Highlands.

A NEW HOMEThe couple previously visited the Club as guests of relatives.

However, upon being invited in 2007 to hold Tee Up for Down at The Midlands and noticing how warmly the club members and staff received Jeremy, they decided to make the Club their new home. There, Elmer learned how to play golf, and his skill grew alongside the tournament. The tourney, in turn, opened the Lapeñas to new avenues for spreading their cause, such as Let’s Get High, a photo exhibit featuring scenes of life with children with special needs, also made with the Club’s participation.

FEATURE STORY

This year’s tournament continues to show its burgeoning prominence with an overbooked roster of around 148 entrants, and the participation of about 50 sponsors, including Megafiber and Yellow Cab. Bert dela Rama and Gary Sales took home the tournament’s top honors, as Overall Net and Overall Gross Champions, respectively, while Team Melissa finished as Overall Team Champion. Division titles went out to Vincent Soriano for Class A, Olan Bool for Class B, Willy Tee Ten for Class C, Jun Martin for Class D, and Joan Cortez for the Ladies’ Division. Jeremy himself remains unchallenged as champion of the Special Division.

A BOY’S HAVENAbove all else, the Lapeñas note that the Club provides an

excellent place for Jeremy to learn. As he is more accustomed to observing and copying, the courses and driving ranges are the perfect places for him to pick up Elmer’s skills. From this, Jeremy developed what Elmer calls a “natural swing” that offers greater consistency downrange.

Jeremy also enjoys horseback riding, swimming, and bowling at the Club. Agnes stresses that individuals with Down syndrome have different approaches to learning, and thus appreciates the freedom and choices presented to Jeremy.

The community also welcomed Jeremy with open arms. The Club now knows him well as the tournament’s first entrant with Down syndrome. He often visits the Club’s locales on his own, and he finds friendly faces wherever he goes. Players on the courses and at the driving range recognize and greet him. Shuttle drivers and roving guards even offer him lifts.

When asked to sum up the experience of becoming a part of Tagaytay Highlands, Agnes shares a simple message: “Life is good. There are people who are good. There are people who are kind and who are willing to give our kids opportunities.”

The dishes are still steaming when brought to the tables at the Highlands China Palace. Chef Patrick Wong makes sure that his dishes—especially the stir-fried entrées—are freshly made and at the peak of their flavors at the moment the diners dig in.

Among these dishes are the Golden Mushrooms and Chicken Roll, a variation on the famous Chinese roll, this time with a crusty exterior concealing the warm, earthy hit of golden mushrooms and bits of tender chicken. The Beef Tenderloin with Fresh Mango plays delicate beef strips against the sweetness unique to Philippine mangoes, the aromas of celery, and the crunch of julienned carrots. Served inside two hollowed-out mango halves, this dish is a treat for the eyes as it is for the taste buds. Lastly, the Polonchay with Two Kinds of Egg and XO Sauce tosses Chinese spinach with garlic, century egg, scrambled egg, and XO sauce, which brings the spice and a kick of salt fish to round out the flavors.

These and other traditional Chinese dishes await hungry diners at the Highlands China Palace.

SportsCenter Veranda

With the Sports Center Veranda’s reopening comes a newly revamped menu. Tex-Mex in flavor, the new menu provides tasty treats in substantial servings for players and their hearty appetites.

Among its new appetizers is Nacho Grande, which combines the crunch of natural corn tortilla chips with hearty Mexican chili con carne, the sharpness of olives and country cheddar cheese, and the kick of salsa rojo. The famished can take comfort in the rice bowls, among which is the Cubano! Cubano!, a Cuban minced meat stew served with a side of fried cardabas and a sunny-side-up egg on top of steamed rice.

Thirsty souls find refreshment in the Cucumber Slush,a blend of ice, cucumbers, and mint for those hot days onthe links, and for kids of all ages, there is the well-lovedChoco-banana Shake.

Of course, the pièce de résistance is the All-American Burger, made with certified Angus beef patties, tomato, lettuce, cucumber and the kitchen’s very own secret sauce, all served in a sesame seed-studded Kaiser bun. Diners can customize their burgers with a choice of toppings: sliced cheddar, crispy onions, cured bacon, wild mushrooms, chili con carne, and jalapeños. Served with a generous side of fries, the All-American Burger is something to return to, time and again.

After fourteen years since its inception, the Belle Cup continues to attract the country’sbest golfers to Tagaytay Highlands. The Club’s homegrown talents tee off with players across the nation for some of the richest rewards on the local golf scene. With entrants

competing for a share in millions of pesos’ worth of assorted prizes, you would think that tensions would run as high as the stakes. But even over those four days of intense play,

these rivals on the fairways are anything but during the lulls between shots.

Smiles are shared between players over sumptuous meals and glasses of wineat the Country Club. Cheers ring out as the next name is called out for a raffle.

Every so often, entertainers regale the crowd with shows and music. The scene wouldnot look out of place at one of the Club’s more lighthearted parties. It is a refreshing

vision of what a golf tournament could be, and it is the product of one couple’simagination guiding the Club’s golf community.

As with many of the families that have stood alongside Tagaytay Highlands since its inception, the Imperials hold considerable influence within club affairs. But where other

figures lead the way in the Club’s business operations or are mainstays at its events, Windy and Farah Imperial focus on what is arguably the Club’s lifeblood: golf. The couple share

years of experience competing in various local and international tournaments, and it is this wisdom that allows them to bring a breath of fresh air to a reinvigorated Belle Cup.

“In truth a family is what you make it. It is made strong, not by the number of heads counted at the dinner table, but by the rituals you help family members create, by the memories you share,

by the commitment of time, caring, and love you show to one another, and by the hopesfor the future you have as individuals and as a unit.” — Marge Kennedy*

Page 26: Highlands View Vol.19 No.1-2014

AN EXPERIENCE FIT FOR A STARGolf ran deep in Fernando “Windy” Imperial’s veins

since his childhood, being introduced to the sport by hisfather, and thus it was with a heavy heart that he briefly gaveup his game upon moving to the United States to work in the 80s. There, he met Farah, then a casual player with just a grasp of the basics. The fire was rekindled within Windy, and he resumed playing, this time with Farah. They became closer as a couple and seasoned as golfers. While enjoying the game with Farah’s relatives, they quickly took to it as a clan pastime, with both sides of the family engaging in friendly competition over every round.

The couple returned to the Philippines to raise their children and quickly became involved in the lifestyle that is Tagaytay Highlands. As they watched their children outgrow the playground in favor of the Sports Center and the golf courses, they too witnessed the Club expand into the golf mecca it is today. They continue to contribute to the Club’s growth, with Windy previously captaining the Men’s Federation Team, and Farah as a member of both the Ladies’ Federation Team and the Club’s golf committee.

As part of the Club’s premier golf teams, the two represented Tagaytay Highlands at numerous tourneys across the country, and partook in some of its biggest victories to date, with Windy leading the 2009 team that finished 2nd overall for the Men’s Federation Golf League and Farah currently part of the team that brought home the Club’s second Ladies Federation Golf League Championship and consecutive WGAP victories at

two different tournaments. However, out of the many theyhave been a part of, whether on their own or on behalf of the Club, one event stands out as the inspiration behind the Belle Cup’s renaissance.

In 2004, Windy placed in the local leg of the BMW Golf Cup, a feat Farah replicated in 2006. For that, they represented the Philippines in the tournament’s National Team Competition on two separate occasions, first in Sydney, then in Phuket. While both came back without a trophy, they did so with recollections of an experience fit for a star. Instead of stories from the fairways, they recall being chauffeured to the event in BMW’s top-of-the line models, staying at a hotel with lavish accommodations, and taking gifts home with them. “You didn’t have to win. Winning was a small bonus. Being invited, being able to have that experience, you felt special,” Windy jokes.

It is this mindset that Farah brought to the table when asked to chair the committee behind the Belle Cup; stories shared with the kids and relatives became ideas built upon at the Club. They sought to emulate their time in Sydney and Phuket at their home in Tagaytay Highlands. Today, being welcomed to the Country Club with complimentary gifts, enjoying a break with food from the Club’s finest restaurants, and meeting friends amidst live entertainment are all now part and parcel of being invited to the tournament. By all accounts, these recommendations paid off, as a full house attended the most recent Belle Cup, with some entrants even requesting to be waitlisted in case a competitor dropped out.

A PLACE FOR THE FAMILYFor the Imperials, it is important to make

experiences that you can uniquely appreciate as a family. It is apparent that they consider Tagaytay Highlands their extended family, with the way they shared with the Club cherished thoughts of tournaments past, and with these, made the Belle Cup an experience unmatched outside the Club’s slopes. Indeed, the Club is a place for the Imperials to share fond moments with those close to heart, and nothing exemplifies this better than time with their kids.

Whenever they need to take a break from the pressures of running their company, the Imperialstake their two sons and two daughters to the Club, as they have done since the children were much younger. Farah enjoys sharing pictures of the kids crowding around the playground, as she recalls their earlier days at the Club. Nowadays, the kids follow in their parents’ athletic footsteps at the Club’s many sporting and recreational facilities.

Sons Christopher and Diño, now both in their twenties, often shoot some hoops at the Sports Center’s gym. Meanwhile, teen daughters Franchesca and Tara train in softball and volleyball, respectively. Once in a while, they join their parents for a round of golf at the Club’s courses. But no matter which sport occupies their time, they know the evenings are sacred to each other; as the sun sets, they take turns choosing from the Club’s many restaurants for a hearty dinner, with the Highlands Steakhouse and the China Palace being common favorites.

“The Club is not only golf; it’s a place for the family. You see your children grow, and then they get older, and when they get married, they’ll probably have their own kids here,” Farah says of their experience at the Club. In this statement lies the ultimate goal of the Imperials’ contributions to the Belle Cup and the Club in general: to introduce more families, even those of their competition on the golf course, to the lifestyle in Tagaytay Highlands, and share with them the chance to make new, wonderful memories of their own there. “The memories are here, and we want people to feel the same way.”

To coincide with the 2014 Holy Week, sculptor and club member Dondon Awa and his wife Josie shared their family’s compendium of sacred art in a month-long exhibit at the Tagaytay Highlands Golf Club. Aptly titled Sin Pecado, which translates from Spanish as “without sin,” the exhibit presented Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection through various miniature tableaus and life-sized statuaries in both wood and ivory, depicting an anthology of biblical scenes relevant to the season.

The couple also stressed that the artworks in their possession are compliant to the restrictions on trade in ivory. Works of

art and antiquities in this medium have been restricted in international and local trade for decades. The Convention

on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) has ensured that trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten the survival of the species in the wild. The Awa family has secured the proper government

documentation in compliance with CITES.

Artists-in-Residence Ben-Hur, Bumbo, and Jikko Villanueva put together an exhibit for the Club’s anniversary year. The Villanuevas’ creative energies forged the Mountain Living Collection, a set of sculptures set in bronze and wood. Each piece captures moments inspired by life at Tagaytay Highlands. The rustic, provincial vibe portraying faith, labor, and maternal love, the sophisticated flow of grace and form, and the abstraction of movement in music and dance, all take form in these sculptures, evoking a memory that stretches across the Club’s two decades on the hills. The works of Ben-Hur, Bumbo and Angeliko “Jikko” Villanueva went on display in the summer of 2014.

A single from the 1992 album Simple Life, Kevyn Lettau’s “Sunlight” hit big in the Philippines, a success that has drawn the international jazz singer to the country time and again. In her most recent visit to the Philippines, on February 8, 2014, her familiar lilt floated in the cool Highlands air at a pre-Valentine’s concert exclusive to members, giving the Club a chill, romantic start to its anniversary year.

A chill breeze cooled the Midlands Golf Veranda, wafting in from the lake and volcano and across Midlands Hole No. 18. The veranda itself was festooned in full carousel white draping lit in radiant orchid. Soul band Mulatto opened the concert, warming up the audience with a lavish serving of 70s retro grooves.

As part of her repertoire for the evening, Kevyn sang “Mas Que Nada,” a nod to bossa nova musician Sergio Mendes, who had discovered her in 1984 and jumpstarted her singing career. The rest of her set included tunes both familiar and new capped off by a medley of the Sergio Mendes classic “Bridges” and the beloved OPM song “Sana’y Maulit Muli.”

To complement the evening’s music, Highlands executive chef Rene Acol prepared a degustation dinner, starting with an appetizer of smoked salmon, shrimp, and avocado. Broiled Chilean sea bass served as the first course, followed by a palate cleanser of Tagaytay pineapple sherbet. Fillet mignon with Burgundy perfume came as the second course, a signature dish from the Highlander Steakhouse, and dessert capped it all off with buttermilk panna cotta with strawberry compote, courtesy of Highlands pastry chef Greg de Grano. Chemin Des Sables and Rose D’Anjou 2012 filled the Club’s wineglasses that evening.

The evening ended with a meet-and-greet with the evening’s nightingale, including photos and autographs, and heartfelt thanks.

In addition to her Highlands performance, Kevyn Lettau visited the Philippines to perform at Heal our Land, a benefit concert for Typhoon Yolanda victims, held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

DEVOTION

The Feast of the Holy Family Chapel, held on December 29, 2013, turned out to be a real season for homecoming and family bonding. Hundreds of families of pioneering and new club members celebrated the Holy Mass, which the current Bishop of Imus, H.E. Most Reverend Reynaldo G. Evangelista D.D. presided over with Reverend Fathers Randel Marero and Russell Matuloy as concelebrants.

The community was also blessed with the presence of H.E. Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle D.D., Archbishop of Manila and former Bishop of Imus, who delivered the homily and reminisced about the days when Tagaytay Highlands was part of his flock. In his homily, the cardinal emphasized the

A colony of blue-tailed bee-eaters (Merops philippinus) has nested in cavities in an area along Midlands Avenue. The species is known by its predominantly green plumage, blue tail, black eye stripe, blue face patch, yellow and brown throat feathers, and black beak. Their slender forms are a distinct pattern against the sky as they flit here and there, catching insects for food and living up to their name. Gregarious by nature, the bee-eater is easily spotted and makes a good subject to start off the Highlands bird-watching adventure.

Tagaytay Highlands celebrated Mother’s Daywith a special Highlands Toque event for moms at Bistro Saratoga. Club members Fanny Cacho of Woodridge and Mylene Dolonius of The Horizons joined the event. Along with Midlands’ sous chef Nic Bornolla, guest mom-chefs prepared a delicious lineup of meals, which included fennel seed-spiked pork roast on braised cabbage, potato boulangère, sautéed lapu-lapu fillet, prawns in dugléré sauce, served with carrot mousseline, glazed asparagus, and crispy sweet potatoes. The Highlands Toque is the Club’s official live interactive cooking demonstration with the Club’s culinary team.

Moms who came early were also greeted with a special treat, as Bistro Saratoga also hosted a Mommies’ Pamper Booth alongside the event, with relaxing spa treatments that surely perked them up.

The community also commemorated the occasion with an 11 o’clock mass at the HolyFamily Chapel.

A defining characteristic of Tagaytay Highlands is its communal sense of family. Outside of just competing with each other on the fairways, club members share friendly moments with each other in the Club’s restaurants and unwind together at its many recreational facilities. The Club seeks to foster this camaraderie at all times, especially when new members become a part of the community. With this in mind, the Club welcomes the people who joined Tagaytay Highlands between January and June 2014. By personally recognizing these names, the Club reaches out to bring more friends into the fold.

Come and join the Club in welcoming its newest names to the Highlands community
