New Church Minibus . . . Thank you for keeping Bill Wiltsey and Arvin Skramstad in your prayers as they traveled to Indianapolis to pick up our new church minibus! You will be pleasantly surprised to see that we have chosen a 2018 Ford StarCraft Minibus to replace our 25-year old van. While 15 passenger vans are very nice vehicles, the Trustees felt this minibus was more spacious, had more luggage space, was easier to get in and out of, and was safer for us to operate. The minibus did cost more than the original target price of the Transport Van, but we are grateful and blessed to be able to use memorial funds from Anna Harris, Cliff Angleman, Miriam Maurer, and Howard Maloney to make this upgrade possible. This is a very exciting time and it is our prayer that this minibus will serve the LORD and this congregation well for decades into the future.

Dear Church Family and Friends, October is the month when my two favorite ladies have their

birthdays – my lovely wife, Kim, and my mother. That has always

made the month beautiful to me. It also is the time when the leaves change color and the

mountainsides become a beautiful panorama – a divine painting on display for all to enjoy!

When my family lived in Tennessee, myriads of folks would come down to Pigeon Forge and

Gatlinburg so that they could be surrounded by the splendor of the Smoky Mountains in the

Fall. In Genesis 8:22 our Scriptures declare that the LORD has promised that as long as the

earth endures that the seasons will come and go at their appointed times. This promise came

after the Great Flood when the LORD promised to never again destroy all living things

because the failures of humankind. The sign of that promise is the rainbow. You might say,

what does the rainbow have to do with Fall? Good question! I see the rainbow of colors of

the leaves against the blue sky – and at sunset all the colors of the rainbow appear in the sky

above the colored foliage below. These beautiful things remind me of the artistry of our God.

One of the songs we often sing in the Fall is All Things Bright and Beautiful – as we sing this,

the words remind us of the unsurpassed scope, diversity, and beauty found in Creation. It is

my hope and prayer that during this beautiful season that you will get away to some place

where you can spend some time alone, or with someone you love dearly, out in God’s

masterpiece and just revel in its splendor! It will bring refreshment to your soul, and lift your

spirits – God designed it to do just that! May the LORD bless you and yours abundantly this

Autumn season.

Amen and amen!

Pastor Bill

Have you lost a loved one, a close friend, or a child? Do you need support in dealing with the loss of someone you love? Losing someone special, a family member or a close friend, can be difficult. The support of others on a similar journey can bring comfort, nurture, healing. The Highland Park Church of God, located on the corner of Baynes Avenue and Market Street in Gloucester City, invites you to a 13-week journey called “Grief Share.” The group will meet in the church’s fellowship hall Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, beginning October 4. There is no cost to participate. Each week your GriefShare group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. After viewing the video, group members will spend time, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in our lives. During the week you will have the opportunity to use your workbook for further personal study of the grieving process and to help sort out your emotions through journaling. GriefShare is a nationally recognized program. More information about this program can be found at their website (www.griefshare.org). You may also go to www.highlandparkcog.org. Please call the church office at 456-3364 with questions or to sign up to participate. You are cared about and you are loved. We would like to help you through this difficult time.

All ladies are welcome to study, chat and snack with us! We will be finishing up our study on "I Can Only Imagine" October 2nd and 9th at 7:00 p.m. at Bonnie's house. On October 16th we will start a new study, "FINDING JOY" for the next six weeks. This study is designed to help uncover the beliefs and attitudes that keep us from

experiencing the abiding joy we can have even in the mundane or frustrating moments of life. The dictionary defines joy as "a very glad feeling; delight" Who doesn't want that? But what exactly do you have to be glad about? How can we feel delight when things aren't going our way? What's stealing our joy? How can we cultivate a spirit of celebration EVERY DAY? Grab your Bible, a journal and pen...maybe a friend...and come join us! We will be meeting at Pastor Deb's home (beginning October 16) for the next six weeks, 22 Swathmore Avenue.
