Charles W Heil III became an Eagle Scouton May 6 making him the 47th Eagle Scoutfrom Novirsquos Boy Scout Troop 407 which ischartered by Holy Family Catholic Church

Heilrsquos project included clearing over aquarter mile of the Chase trail located in theChase Farms subdivision Additionally theproject comprised of constructing bat housesand signage which were placed along thetrail He led over 20 people to a successfulcompletion of his project

Heil has earned 40 merit badges so far 21are required to earn the rank of Eagle ScoutHe plans to earn the Disability AwarenessMerit Badge before he graduates from highschool

His community service work includedvolunteering as a buddy for the baseballplayers of the Miracle League many hours atGleaners and at canned food drives andnumerous troop-related landscaping events

In Troop 407 Heil held the scout-electedposition of senior patrol leader and led the troop of about 60 scoutsfor a year He enjoys mentoring all scouts especially his youngerbrother Robby who is a Life Scout in Troop 407

Heil is currently a senior at Novi High School He plays trumpet inthe wind ensemble and is in the marching band

After graduating highs chool his ambition includes pursuing anchemical engineering or computer science degree In July he wasinvited to and attended the Michigan State University BEACONprogram which is designed toward giving potential future engineersand biologistsrsquo hands-on experience in these disciplines Heenjoyed the program and plans to apply to Michigan StateUniversity and several other state of Michigan universities

At Heilrsquos Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony on Aug 4 StateRep Hugh Crawford (R-Novi) presented him with a special tribute
