Executive Summary The Healy Lake Youth Council was established on January 13, 2018 in Healy Lake, Alaska. The founding

members include Alissa Healy (18), Kayanna Healy (15), Kristal Fifer (17), and Kiowa Fifer (19). As a part of

the first discussion, the youths developed a list of projects that could benefit the community. Some ideas include:

ice fishing, beadwork, gun safety, First Aid & CPR training, archaeology, learning our language, and building a

community playground. It is the goal of the youth council to begin developing a playground throughout the

summer of 2018, starting with an outdoor basketball court. Next summer, the youths plan to complete the

playground with additional equipment.

Project Plan 1. Develop a vision of a “dream playground.”

2. Coordinate meetings with Tanana Chiefs Conference employees who can help research specific

playground equipment and guide the youths in further matters.

3. Research materials, safety requirements, other playgrounds, etc.

4. Research/apply for funding opportunities and create a budget.

5. Lay the foundations of the playground (i.e. gravel).

6. Purchase playground equipement.

7. Transport purchased playground equipment to Healy Lake.

8. Begin playground assembly.

9. Encourage the community to use the playground!

Some Basketball Court Options The youths would like to use some kind of paneling for a basketball court- something durable and easier to run

on than concrete. There are a variety of options that range in price and installation requirements.
