A Message from TerryCommunity members to benefit from coordinated resources t’s always rewarding when our communities come together in service of others. Thanks to a restructuring of the Canyon Collaborative, a collection of 28 agencies that provide services to individuals and families in the Santiam region, the Santiam Service Integration Team was created.

The Service Integration Team (SIT) model is built on a successful program that has been running in Polk County for several decades as a partnership between Polk County Health and Human Services, seven school districts, 200+ partnering organizations, agencies, and individuals throughout the county.

Like the model in Polk County, Santiam SIT will serve as a safety net by facilitating resources and information for individuals and families. The program is designed to coordinate community providers and services to identify needs, find solutions, and avoid duplication of services.

We are actively seeking our partners for the Santiam SIT to include local school districts, law enforcement, local and state governments, faith communities, businesses, non-profits, early childhood providers, community volunteers, and other interested parties.

Together, we can share resources and work efficiently and effectively to benefit those most in

need in our community. To help us in this effort, Melissa Baurer, BA in Sociology and Masters in Criminal Justice recently joined Santiam Hospital as the Santiam Service Integration Coordinator. In this role, she will coordinate the efforts and activities of the Santiam SIT. This includes providing facilitation and coordination of the Service Integration Teams, developing and maintaining communication and collaboration among all key partners, developing community resources, and demonstrating and providing leadership among community partners.

Melissa will begin her work within the North Santiam School District. Santiam Canyon School District (Mill City and surrounding areas) and Cascade School District (Turner and surrounding areas) will soon follow. I’m excited to see the difference we can all make when we work together.

he inaugural Mommy & Baby Palooza was a huge success in 2016. Santiam Hospital will host the second annual event on Saturday, August 5th from 10am to 2pm.Mommy & Baby Palooza, a community based event, is a coming together of goods and services of interest to expectant, new, and experienced moms and their families. Nearly 700 attendees had the opportunity in 2016 to learn about the latest and greatest baby and toddler items, healthy food choices, exercise, prenatal care and much more. The free admission event will be presented by Santiam Hospital's Family Birth Center and the Santiam Women's Clinic. Tours of the Birth Center will be offered and hospital staff from the Birth Center and the Clinic will be on hand to share information and answer questions.Over 30 vendors will display and sell items customized for babies, toddlers, and moms at Mommy & Baby Palooza. Vendors will range from Salem Target to sellers of handmade baby items, massage therapists, a yoga instructor, a book seller, and a plant nursery. Several vendors who sell online at Etsy will be on hand. From unique baby shoes, onesies, quilts, nursery décor, and essential oils to hand reflexology demonstrations, there will be something for everyone at Mommy & Baby Palooza.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Kids Court will include plenty of fun with face painting, latex-free balloon animals (a huge hit with kids of all ages), a bouncy house with a giant slide, and whimsical photo backdrops with costumes, so that moms, dads, friends and family members could take their own photos as a remembrance of the great day. All of the activity will be punctuated with music by The Alphabeticians, a popular Portland area band.No Palooza would be complete without great food. A variety of lunch items and treats will be for sale by local food vendors, and Pacific Perks will brew up coffee drinks and blended fresh fruit smoothies. Santiam Hospital is proud to host the Mommy & Baby Palooza. Watch for further details online at santiamhospital.org. We look forward to seeing you and your family there!
