Program Goals
We are committed to serving our children, families, and community in
the areas most needed. Our Community Assessment and Self-
Assessment findings have led us to make funding priority decisions
based on the identified program goals below. The program goals were
designed to truly impact our children, families, and the Greater
Lawrence community.
Laying the Foundation for a Brighter Future
Every child is different. The individual assessment of children by qualified
teachers is what allows us to measure the growth and development of all
children who come to our program, and to provide the appropriate
interventions when necessary. All of our classrooms are integrated, which
means that all of our children receive quality of service regardless of need
or ability.

Celebrating the Hernandez Family!
ilagros Hernandez is a Head Start parent. M She and her son, Manuel, came to the United States speaking Spanish only. Once enrolled in the Head Start program, she became an active volunteer, both in the classrooms and the Head Start administration offices in April 2019. Milagros quickly demonstrated a commitment and dedication to the Head Start program that was quickly observed by the Early Learning Division Director, Rony Adams, and the senior management team. As a result of her work ethic, Milagros was offered a position as the Senior Administrative Assistant in September 2019. Milagros not only has exceeded our
expectations in meeting the high demands of
her job but is also an example for setting high
professional and personal goals for herself to
better her family’s future.
For example, she actively

Development Coach
icole Penney joined our team in July 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood N Education and over ten years of teaching experience. She specializes in Practice Based Coaching
where she supports the teachers’ use of effective teaching practices that lead to positive outcomes for children. Working one-on-one with teachers to form collaborative partnerships and supporting them in various teaching methods, Nicole’s approach to coaching sessions create a safe place for
teachers to reflect and explore their own practices.
Part of Nicole’s success lies in her adeptness at utilizing data-based approaches to guide her work
with teachers. She regularly conducts Self-Assessment surveys to determine in which areas the
teachers would like to begin to increase their knowledge, reflect on their methodologies, and build
upon their existing knowledge base. Nicole also uses CLASS data, child outcomes and
recommendations made by Education Supervisors to make informed decisions on areas of
development for teachers. In her short time at Head Start, Nicole has established a strong bond
with the teachers and the Education Supervisors. We are excited to watch Nicole blossom in her
new role as the Child Development Coach.
