7 HE inaugural meeting of the Inner Wheel club of Ipoh East was held on 6 th June 2007 with fourteen members. The Chairman for the meeting was IPDC/Extension Chairman Datin Dr Joges Pathmakanthan. In special attendance were PIIW Board Member Datin Joan Salleh and Inner Wheel District 330 Treasurer Mrs Ilah Ragunathan. The Inaugural President and the Executive Committee members were duly elected and other members were nominated to form the new club. All other matters with regards to forming the new Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East were discussed and finalised. The Club was formed on 6th June 2007, registered and signed on 12th June 2007 by International Inner Wheel President Mrs Janet Day 2006/2007. The Charter Certificate was received by Extension Chairman Datin Dr Joges Pathmakanthan on 29th June 2007. The Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East is the 19th Club in IW District 330. A General Meeting was held on the 1st of August 2007 at the residence of Deputy National Representative Joges. National Representative Mrs Rathy Mahendran, PP Mrs Susan David from IWC Taiping and Past Charter President Mrs Simone Wippern from IWC of Kuala Lumpur North were present. On 19th September 2007 the Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East, Perak received its official Registration Certificate from the Registrar of Societies Perak. Charter Night Celebration was held on 17th November 2007 at the Syuen Hotel, Ipoh. Many fellow Inner Wheel Club members of District 330, Rotarians and spouses, and guests were present. Friendship-Link members from Hatyai, Thailand also attended. Extension Chairman Datin Dr Joges Pathmakanthan passed the new club charter to IW District 330 Chairman Mrs Joy Sundram who then officially presented it to Club Charter President Linda Wong together with the President’s Jewel. Organising Chairman for the auspicious function was Mrs Anne Mahendran. Charter President Linda Wong led a successful joint charity project with Crystal Club of Ipoh where gifts, snacks and a magic show brought smiles to the children in the Paediatrics Ward (Oncology) of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh. The Club also donated milk powder and goodie bags to the children at the Arul Perum Jothy Orphanage Ipoh. The Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East installed its second President Datin Dr Ramani Subramaniam on 28th June 2008 at the Royal Ipoh Club. Internationally, representative members of our club attended the 2008/2009 installation of the President of IWC of Hatyai, our Friendship-Link club. A warm fellowship meeting was held on 18th September 2008 in Perth during a visit by club secretary Mdm Cheng Yeok San with 5 club representatives of Metropolitan Perth (Western Australia). They were the IW Clubs of Melville, Karrinyup, Scarborough, Rossmoyne and Mornington Peninsula (Victoria). Present was past District A40 Secretary and 2008/2009 president of IWC Karrinyup, Mrs Kay Durrant and District A40 Historian Catherine Whitelaw. This was reciprocated in a visit by Mrs Kay Durrant (and 2 other Rotarians and spouses) on 23rd November 2008. They were feted at the Royal Ipoh Club by a large number of our members and family.

A needy standard one student, Shanthi, from SK Guru Kailgdar was adopted by the club and she will be supported until standard six.Mrs Anne Mahendran was installed as the 3rd President at a dinner held in the Ipoh City and Country Club on the 25th July 2009. Guests included members from our Friendship-Link Club of IWC Hatyai, members of IWC Penang, IWC Taiping, IWC Ipoh, Presidents from the various Rotary Clubs in Ipoh and their spouses, family and friends. 3 new members Mrs M Umadevi, Mrs Kannaki Bala and Dr Faizah Abdul Karim were inducted. President Anne received a donation of RM25,000 for the main project of the year from an anonymous donor. MOTOMEd Viva2 costing RM20,000 was donated to the Physiotherapy Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh on 3rd December 2009. The equipment which will help to rehabilitate stroke victims, paraplegics and

post-trauma patients was received by the State Director of Health, witnessed by the Director of the Hospital, Head of Physiotherapy Department and staff, Rotarians and members of IWC Ipoh and IWC Ipoh East. During the year, we received Mrs Miriam Fisher from IWC Carolina and Mrs Kay Durrant from Australia. IWC Ipoh East had a joint Medical Camp with MMA Perak and IWC Ipoh, in an Orang Asli Settlement in Tronoh. IWC Ipoh East member, Dr Faizah Karim together with her team of nurses, carried out dental screening for the children and adults. IWC Ipoh East also presented goodie bags to the orang asli children.

District Chairman Datin Uma Rani on 5th September, paid her official visit to our club. On 7th November 2009, President Anne and spouse, Secretary Mrs Vaijayanthi, Mrs Anne Edwin and friends attended the installation of our Friendship-Link Club in Hatyai. A donation of 1,000 baht was presented to the club.President Anne Mahendran was re-elected for a second term for the Inner Wheel Year 2010/2011. District Chairman Mrs Simone Wippern visited our club on14th August 2010.

In early September, President Anne, Vice-President Vaijhayanthi, PP Saras Bala and Club Correspondent Kannaki Bala visited and attended a monthly meeting at IWC Margao, India. Club Bannerettes were exchanged by both Presidents. On 19th October, one unit Oxygen Concentrator was presented to the Perak Palliative Care Sociey in Lebuh Woods, Ipoh. The cost of the machine was RM6,000 of which RM2,000 was donated by the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur. The club donated lighting fixtures, new chairs, and financed the painting of a standard 6 classroom in SK Guru Kalgidar Buntong, Ipoh so as to make the classroom more conducive for students sitting for the UPSR. This was made possible with a donation of RM1,000 from QBE Insurance.

Mrs Nirmala Nadarajah and Mrs Vimala Ananda were inducted into the club on International Inner Wheel Day, 12th January 2011. About 400 people were given a free health check at a medical camp at Sri Subramaniam Temple Grounds Kat Kampung Kepayang on Thaipusam Day. Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Dr Zambry visited briefly at the camp. In April, a computer corner was set up at the Good Shepherd Home, Buntong. 3 computers complete with licensed software, 2 printers, 3 tables, 3 chairs and a stand fan were donated to the orphanage. Introductory classes were also organised for the children. QBE Insurance donated RM2,000 towards this project. This was followed by festive cheers for the children where they were feted to sumptuous food, games and performances by the children themselves. The President sponsored goodie bags for the children.

Fifth President, Mrs Saraswathy Balasubra-maniam was installed on 30th July 2011 at a dinner at Ipoh City and Country Club. Guest-of-Honour was Deputy National Representative Mrs Illah Ragunathan. Mdm Alamelu Narayanan was inducted. A motivation seminar and workshop for UPSR students of SJK(T) Klebang Chemor was carried out on 14th August 2011 officiated by our District Chairman Rokiah Staun. Organising Chairman was Madam Cheng Yeok San. On 24th September, 2011, pap smears and breast examinations for the female residents of Dovenby Estate, Sungai Siput(U) was carried out in coordination with Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Kuala Kangsar. Organising Chairman was Mdm Alamelu Narayanan. The 43rd Inner Wheel Australia Annual Conference, held in Perth, Western Australia on 5-9 October 2011 was attended by Mdm Cheng Yeok San. On 15th October 2011 4 wheelchairs and some educational aid were presented by our Club to the Day Care Centre of Pusat Pemulihan Komuniti Buntong, generously sponsored by PP Rtn Sashi Bala of RC Puchong Centennial as our Guest-of-Honour. On 22nd November 2011, a 4-member team from our Club headed by District ISO Datin Dr Ramani went on a Humanitarian Mission

to Siem Reap, Cambodia, jointly with the Rotary Club of Greentown, to bring clean drinking water to the inhabitants of the floating village. On 21st February 2012, 100 goodie bags and a cash donation of RM500/ were given to the residents of the Day Care at the Perak Society for the Promotion of Mental Health at Tambun, Ipoh. Donors were Mrs Premila Veerasamy (RM1,000), members and well-wishers (goodie bags and presents). Organising Chairman was Mrs Mallika Karunagaran. On 7th February 2012, a medical camp for general check-up and blood sugar was held at Sri Subramaniar Temple, Kg. Kepayang, during the Thaipusam Festival, coordinated with the help of Dr. Elangovan, Ketua Pegawai Kesihatan of Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Kinta and staff of the Pejabat Kesihatan Gunong Rapat. Organising Chairman Mrs. Kannaki Bala sponsored the food while President Saras sponsored mementos for all who helped.20th February, 2012, District 322 ISO Datin Dr Ramani met with District 328 ISO Srimathi Sebastian Reddy and President Marian of IWC Kandy Metropolitan, Colombo.On 8th March, 2012, the Club pays tribute to exemplary women of our community in celebration of International Women’s Day.
