September 6, 2019Workshop: The Retreat Bag Instructor : Polly Monica
Our instructor for the Retreat bag is HQU member and former HQU
President, Polly Monica. The bag comes in 2 sizes, with or without a handle
and makes the perfect Christmas, birthday, wedding gift, a make-up bag,
sewing bag, swap bag or just a perfect bag for any sewing retreat. This bag
is easy to make and can hold a lot of goodies! The frame on this bag
creates an opening that stays open no matter what, making it both handy
and professional looking.
October 4, 2019Workshop: The Stitches Sampler(Sue Spargo’s Creative Stitching) Instructor: Felice Dahlhausen
In October you can step up your skills with “The wool stitches Sampler”.
Instructor Felice Dahlhausen from Ohio is a Sue Spargo-esqe wool fabric
quilter. The kit will include all necessary supplies to create four double circles
equaling 15-16 stitches.

Workshop: Color Study Instructor: Kevin Womack
For the “color theory” workshop, participants will choose one primary color
as a starting point and then work choosing colors that they are comfortable
or uncomfortable with to complete the quilt top. Kevin has provided plenty
of information on this workshop to help with your decision making. No
machine necessary for this workshop. Participant will arrange their blocks,
photograph them and sew the finished quilt top at home. Participants will
be focusing more on designing with their color rather than sewing in this
workshop.
December 6, 2019Workshop: Folded Log Cabin Instructor: Carolyn Fulmer
A folded log cabin block is a lovely block with some depth and texture to it.
I am excited that another one of our HQU members has agreed to teach
this workshop. Carolyn Fulmer, long time member, and former President of
HQU will be instructing us on this delightful block.
January10, 2020Workshop: Fusible Weaving along
Silhouette Applique
Instructors: Maggie Ward & Rosanne Williamson
In January there will be 2 workshops in one “Fusible Weaving along with
Silhouette Applique.” Local quilters, Maggie Ward & Rosanne Williamson will
be instructing on how to combine these 2 fun techniques to make one
special guilt. You will learn how to weave 2 fabrics together to make a
unique piece that will serve as the background to your quilt. Then choose
one or several silhouettes to bring your scene to life
February 7, 2020Workshop: French Roses
A pattern by Heather FrenchInstructor: Kathi Cappellini
Very busy HQU member, Kathi Cappellini will teach this workshop. The
“French Roses” quilt is made with fun and easy soft-edge applique. You will
be creating beautiful large roses by layering fabrics onto your
backgrounds, using a special type of raw edge applique. No need for
fusible or needle turn to make these blooms. The pattern makes a throw size
quilt but is very easy to make larger or smaller (perfect baby quilt since with
each wash it ends up being soft and comfortable).
March 6, 2020Workshop: Barn Quilt Painting Instructor: Suzie Parron
Suzi Parron, author “Barns Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement”
and national tv/radio speaker will be our workshop instructor. You will begin
with a pre-primed board and go through each step - drafting, taping, and
painting, with careful attention to detail. Workshop is about 4 hours. You will
leave with a finished quilt block, ready to hang. Finished product is 2 by 2
feet and perfect size for mounting on smaller buildings.
April 3, 2020Workshop: Landscape Instructor: Donna Stufft
Donna is an award winning quilter and teacher. In her workshop, each
participant will make a 5x7 landscape art quilt in Donnas’s style, using her
techniques. The piece will have no borders and is meant to be matted and
framed in an 8x10 frame. Participants will try painting on fabric, free-motion
quilting and thread sketching. No need to purchase any supplies,
everything needed will be in your kit.
May 8, 2020Workshop: Jelly Roll Turnover Instructor: Janet Moore
Join us in May for “Jelly Roll Turnover.” Nurse and HQU member, Janet
Moore, will be demonstrating a quick technique to make this beautiful quilt
top. come learn a “sew then cut” technique to quickly turn jellyroll strips
and a background solid into a fun “turnover” blocks that can be used to
make a table topper or start a quilt.
June 5, 2020Workshop: Gems Stone Ling Block
By MJ KinmanInstructor: Julia Graves
Another HQU member Julia Graves, who is now a certified Gem Affiliate to
teach MJ Kinmans patterns, will be instructing our final workshop for the
year. Participants in this workshop will choose their gem block before class
begins. Julia will put together your kit with pattern and fabric. Once you get
the hang of it, Julia will have additional Gem block kits available for
purchase at workshop
