This is the Britannia Road entrance

This book will explain what

happens when you go for a

X-ray at Bedford hospital.

The people in this book

have said it is alright for their

pictures to be used.

Hard words will be written in

dark letters like this and an

explanation will be given in

a blue box.

Having a X-ray?

A X-ray is a special picture

that shows the doctor the

inside of your body.

A X-ray picture will also

show the doctor if you have

a broken bone.

Some X-rays are taken

standing up and some are

taken laying down.

Having a X-ray picture does

not hurt. It is like having a

photograph taken with a big

camera.

What is a X-ray?

The best way to get to the

X-ray department is by

coming in the Britannia Road

entrance.

There is a sign that will

show you the way to go to

the X-ray department.

Follow the sign to the X-ray

department.

Having a chest X–ray

Give your appointment letter

to the receptionist.

The receptionist will ask you

to take a seat and wait to be

called.

You will be called by the

person who will take your

chest X-ray.

Having a chest X–ray

The person taking your

X-ray will lead you to the

changing room.

The person taking your

X-ray will ask you your name

and address and ask you to

take off any jewellery.

The person taking your X-ray

will ask you to put a gown on

with the opening at the back.

You will be asked to keep

your arms by your side.

The person taking your X-ray

will adjust the X-ray camera

to get the best picture.

The person taking your X-ray

will tell you that when taking

the X-ray you will need to

take a big breath in.

The person taking the X-ray

will stand behind a screen

and set up the computer that

takes the X-ray.

The person taking the X-ray

will ask you to breath in.

The person taking the

X-ray will press the button

that takes the X-ray picture.

When the X-ray has been

taken the person taking the

X-ray will lead you back to

the changing room.

The person taking the X-ray

will take the X-ray from the

camera.

The person taking the X-ray

will take the X-ray to the

machine that develops the

picture .

The person taking the X-ray

uses a computer to develop

the X-ray picture.

The person taking the X-ray

will tell you that the X-ray

will be sent to your doctor.

You will need to make an

appointment with your

doctor.

Your doctor will look at the

X-ray picture and tell you

what the problem is and

how they can treat you.
