Hatfield Community Free School Dear Parents, I am writing to inform you that I will be returning full-time to Hatfield in September 2017 because I am ready to pass over the Principal’s role at Jupiter in Hemel to someone who can move the school forward into Key Stage Two. I am excited to be back in the school for a longer time in order to share the next stage of the development of our final Key Stage leading up to Secondary transfer. I will share with our Year 5 parents the new blazer that the children will be wearing as they transfer into their new classes and develop a more business approach to their learning. Do look out for these at the consultation evening on Thursday!
It has yet again been such an action packed fortnight of fun in our school. We are trying out lots of new things including different types of sports that the children are adoring. We are finding now our reputation as a community school is growing across the town and beyond we are being offered lots of chance to work with other agencies. I am always so proud of the feedback I get about the focus and impeccable behaviour of each and everyone of our children. Over the past three weeks we have seen our youngest children performing in the assemblies for parents and it is wonderful to see each and everyone glowing with pride as they share their sentences with their families. There is also a chance for parents to see the whole school special Principal’s assembly which we know the children value greatly especially the part where the house points are announced.
There is so much going on in the next few weeks. We look forward to see you at the consultation evenings which is a chance to look through the books and discuss any concerns directly with the teaching staff or myself.
During this evening we are putting on three workshops, for parents only, to advise you on how to keep your children safe from online dangers. This is an important topic which was shared this week by our local police officer as an issue with children as young as nine in the local area.
We will also be welcoming Years R, 1 and 2 parents into the classrooms to join in lessons which is also a highlight of our year. I do hope you are able to book a maths or literacy slot to come and have some fun with us.
We are saying goodbye to Miss Faber and Mrs Cattermole at Easter. Both have decided to move on to another school. We thank them for their work in our school for our children. We have been highly fortunate to have replacement teachers already working with us in the building. Miss Hill will take Ducks class for the Summer term and Mr Holmes will be teaching Woodpeckers Class.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for our school. We enjoy working with you and your families each day to secure the better future possibilities for your children. Warm wishes,
Dr Sue Attard
Principal

World Book Day—Book Swap
Thank you to everyone who took place in our World Book Day Book Swap. The children
were so excited to bring in an old book and to be able to swap it for a new one! We hope
the children enjoy reading their new book. There was such an air of excitement in the
room when the children got to choose their books! They really took their time in selecting
which book they wanted. We had a lovely comment from Kane in Owls Class, who said he
chose a book that he can read to his sister, as his sister loves Peppa Pig! What an amazing
thing to do Kane!

Year 3 Futsal Competition Year 3 Futsal Competition
On Thursday 2nd March 30 students from Year 3 were very lucky to have the opportunity
to take part in a Futsal competition, run by Sports Education students from the
University of Hertfordshire. The children were introduced to the sport of Futsal and
learnt how it began in the streets of Brazil and soon turned into an international event.
They learnt many new skills and ways to pass and flick the ball.
The children were split into 6 teams and took part in a mini tournament. They thoroughly
enjoyed the session and all spoke positively about how much their knowledge of the sport
had developed. The day was won by the light blue team consisting of Anay, Kevin,
Alekszandra, Amelia and Sophia. Well done to the winning team and all of those involved.
We hope to have another sporting event very soon!

School Information
Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
We will once again be collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers, which we will be using to
purchase some sports equipment for your children to use in school. The vouchers will be
available from Sainsbury’s from 25 January 2017 until 30 June 2017.
We thank you for your support.
Red Nose Day
We will be supporting Red Nose Day on Friday 24 March 2017. We will be having a non
school uniform day on this day and are asking children to ‘comedy dress up’ designed to
make someone laugh.
We do not expect you to go out and buy something new to wear, maybe it could be a silly
hair style or a silly face painted on! We will be collecting donations on the door on the
morning of Friday 24 March and we will also be selling some Red Noses in the School
Office, these cost £1.00 each.
Tissues
As the coughs and sneezes season is well upon us, we would be grateful if you could donate
a box of tissues for your child to use in school. We are teaching the children about good
hygiene and using tissues whenever they have a cough or sneeze is good practice for
helping stop the spread of germs.
We thank you for helping us in this matter.
Parent Forum
Don’t forget that the next parent forum is being held on Wednesday 22 March at 6pm. If
you are interested in attending this forum please contact the office to book a place.

EYFS News
Dear Parents,
This week has been an exciting one for the reception children. We could tell you
about all of the amazing writing they have done or how confident they are growing
in their maths, but just like the children all the reception adults can talk about are
the GIANT bugs!
On Tuesday we were visited by a wonderful collection of minibeasts and reptiles as
part of our theme learning. The children were extremely excited and behaved
beautifully showing real care for all of the creatures they met.
A huge well done to the reception children for showing our visitors how
knowledgeable and excited to learn they are, they were an excellent example of
our school.
Kind Regards,
The Reception Team

Key Stage One News
Dear Parents,
What a brilliant two weeks we have had in Key Stage 1! Our Existing, Endangered and
Extinct theme display has been created and all of the children are very captivated by the
engaging pictures and art work that is displayed. The children absolutely love to see their
fantastic learning being celebrated in the Key Stage 1 corridor.
A particular highlight of the past two weeks has been our celebration of World Book Day.
At HCFS we most definitely showed our love of reading in our very successful Book Swap.
The children loved sharing with their peers why they had enjoyed reading the book they
had donated and were very excited to choose a new book to take home. I do hope you have
enjoyed sharing your child’s new book at home!
Just a couple of reminders for next week:
Parents Consultation Evening will be on Monday 13th March from 2pm—7pm. We
look forward to sharing your child’s amazing learning with you then!
The booking systems for Summer Term Extended Learning Clubs and Key Stage 1
Literacy and Mathematics workshops will be open on Monday 13th March.

Dear Parents,
What a busy few weeks in Key Stage Two it has been. The Mission to Mars
theme has really taken off (pun intended!) over the past couple of weeks. I
have been so pleased to see how excited the children are about space and
have brought in so many books surrounding this theme to share with their
peers.
Another special moment over the past two weeks was most certainly our Book
Swap. The children all shared their books so kindly with each other and it was
a wonderful moment to be part of. We hope that each child cherishes their
new book!
Have a wonderful weekend.
