Harry BrownHarry Brown
Synopsis..
• Harry brown is an elderly pensioner and a widower who’s best friend was murdered by a gang of teenagers. In seek for revenge, Harry brown, an ex
member of the army, uses his skills and abilities as an ex-serviceman to take revenge on the local gang who killed his best friend and were out for him
next.
Twist..
• At the start of the film, we just see Harry Brown as an old man who sits in his chair
playing chess with his best friend. Little did we know that he was an ex-serviceman from
the army who was plotting to harm a group of local troublesome teenagers. The twist takes place when Harry Brown pays a visit to one
of the local boys and straps him up around a chair forcing him to admit that his gang killed Harry’s best friend. Something we were not
expecting!
Red Herring
• We were led to believe that the boys who killed Harry’s best friend would then go to kill Harry however the story misled us to believe this and in the end, Harry ended up killing them! It added suspense to the story and made it challenging for the audience. It built and dropped intensity of the story.
Dramatic Irony
• We were aware that Harry brown was out to then kill the boys of the gang however little did the boys know that an elderly widowed pensioner was an ex-serviceman and was out to kill them. It created atmosphere for the audience and made the film more exciting. It also made the audience feel like they were a part of the movie.
Pathetic Fallacy
• Whenever Harry was out in public looking for the boys, it was always set
at night time. The atmosphere was dark and cold looking, it wasn’t very friendly and the weather was dull and the moon was full. We always heard heavy wind
sounds and owls hooting, etc. It created the atmosphere and mood of
something bad taking place.
Narrative..
• We only have the narrative from the view point of Harry Brown in the story. We have limited access to the narrative event and do not know as much as the characters do. However we also have a Omniscient
narrative. • Restricted; Harry brown knows that he is going to
murder the boys from the gang but we don’t know that.
• Omniscient; The boys from the gang know that they killed Harry’s best friend however until the evidence is shown, we do not know that for sure. We are only
told by Harry that they killed his best friend.
Linear storyline..
• The film has a chronological order to it. It starts at the beginning where Harry is sitting in his chair playing chess, then gets to the climax of the story where Harry kills most of the boys from the
gang and we find the evidence, etc and ends with the final answer and the last
murder as Harry escapes.
Closed Narrative..
• By the end of the film, all the events had been explained clearly. There was
so open ending. At the end, all the boys from the gang were dead and Harry had
achieved his revenge.
