Pictured are

canopic jars

(mainly the

god Anubis)

which would

hold the

internal

organs of the

pharaoh

during the

mummificatio

n process with

the exception

of the heart.

Ms. Van Camp’s social studies classes have just finished up their Ancient Egyptian unit.

Students thought the most fascinating things they learned were about the

mummification process and how intricate each sarcophagus was carved and painted.

They had watched a video of Osiris “Walk Like an Egyptian” to learn facts about their

advanced mathematics and architectural skills to build such amazing wonders that

remain today. The sarcophagus was a very elaborately decorated coffin the pharaoh

would be placed in after the body was preserved and wrapped.

Highlights

In Donna Carpenter's third grade classroom, third grade students Emily Haney, Kayla Newkirk and Gretchin Dulkoski are checking out the mineral garden growing in their classroom. Students are studying the characteristics of rocks and minerals in conjunction with their reading selection, "Rocks in His Head" written by Carol Hurst.

Third grade students in Donna Carpenter and Louan Demas classrooms, in conjunction with The Ohio State University Extension Office, are studying the life cycle of the chick. Students have explored the parts of a chicken egg and have been able to check out pigeon, duck, emu, and ostrich eggs. The eggs were placed in the incubator last week and candled this week to see the growth of the embryo. A successful hatch is expected within the next 10 days. Here, Hunter Boals and Jaikob Best check the status of the eggs in the incubator.
