SAFETY ON THE ROADWhen riding a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle it is not only important to protect your head and body, it is crucial to remember one of our most important senses – the eyes. When purchasing a pair of Harley-Davidson® Performance Eyewear by Wiley X, Wiley X guarantees that you get a high quality product certified to the ANSI Z87 standard for safety glasses. Some of the models even qualify for the military’s stringent MIL-PRF-32432 ballistic standard, and it does not get any tougher than that. These tests result in virtually unbreakable polycarbonate lenses and strong flexible wraparound frames based on more than 25 years of knowledge from our military supply background.
Below are examples on some of the criteria the glasses actually have to meet to be certified:
The ANSI Z87 involves for example an impact from a .25” steel ball travelling at 165 KM/H, and an impact from a 500g steel projectile dropped from a height of 1.27m. These tests are carried out on both the lenses and the frame, and it is the same criteria our prescription lenses must meet.
The MIL-PRF-32432 involves an impact from a .15” steel projectile travelling at 702 KM/H.
