Therearealotoflittledetailsinthisprojectthatneedtobelinedupjustright,sosteerclearunlessyou’vehadsomeexperience.

ThiscaseissomethingIdesignedformyselftostoremycrochethooksandothertools.Whatgivesitanedgearethecontrastpatches,skullapplique,andsnapclosure.Italsofeaturesvariedhookslots,pocketsforpatterns,andazipperedpouchforsmallbits.

Thefirststepistomakethecontrastpatchesforthecase.Forthespine

patches,lineupyourcontrastfabricandliningfabric

withrightsidestogetherandsewthemalongthetopandsidesedges.Thelongstraightedgeisthebottomandshouldbeleftfreeforturningthepatchrightsideout.Trimtheseamallowances,turnthepatchrightsideout,andpressitflat.Forthecornerpatches,simplyfoldthesquaresinhalfdiagonallywithwrongsidestogether.

Withthespinepatchesalldone,youcanapplythemtothespineofyour

case.Simplylineuptherawedgesalongtherawedge

oftheoutercasefabricwherethepatternguidelinesshowandedgestitchtheedgesinplace.Forthecornerpatches,lineupthetrianglepiecesalongthecornersoftheoutercasewheretheguidelinesindicate,thenedgestitchtheminplacealongthediagonaledges.Trimoffanyexcessfabricsothecornersoftheoutercasestilllookroundedastheydidatthebeginning.

Peelbackthefreezerpaperwhenyoufinish.Makesuretoallowthepainttodrybeforeyoucontinuetoyournextstep!

Nextupwe’redoingthehookpocket.Thisbeginswiththepocketpieces,oneouterfabricandoneliningpiece.Simplylayerthetwotogetherwithrightsidesfacingandsewthemalongonelongedge.Afterthis,turnthefabricrightsideoutandpresstheseamflat.

Thehookslotsaremadewhilebastingtheleft-handedgeofyourpocketpiece

totheleft-handedgeofthe“InnerCase–Left”piece.They

arecompletelydifferentwidthsrightnow,butwe’llbepleatingthepocketfabricuntiltheyarethesamewidth.

Sewalongthefirststitchinglinefoundonthehookpocketpatternguideline.Thenmakethefirstpleat,foldingthepleatlinetowardthepreviousstitchinglineandsewingthenextstitchinglinewhilethepleatisinplace.Repeatthiswiththenext3pleatlinesandstitchinglinestocreate3morehookslots.

Afterthoseslotsallthat’sleftaretheflatslotsmadebysewingstraightstitching

linesdownthepocketfabric.Thereare5total.Atthispoint

youshouldseethatyourpocketfabrichasscruncheduptothewidthofyour“InnerCase–Left”piece.

Withtheslotsallfinished,youcannowbastethebottomedgeofthepocketfabric.You’llwanttofoldoverallthepleatedfabricfromtwostepsagotowardstheleft,thenbastedownthosefoldsbysewingalongthebottomedge.Allthat’slefttodoistrimthatlittleextracornerofpocketfabricsothatitcurvesjustlikethe“InnerCase–Left”piece.

Nextwe’reworkingonthemiddleofthecase.Thisisthepatternpocketandit’sjustlikestep4–gatheruponeeachofyourPatternPocketouterfabricpiecesandliningpiecesandlinethemupwithrightsidesfacing.Thensewthemtogetheralongoneofthelongedges,turnthefabricrightsideout,andpresstheseam.

Nowontothezipperpocket.Trimyourzipperto51/2”andsewyourzipper

tabsoneachsideofthezippertocloseofftheends.

Dothisbysandwichingtwoofthezippertabsoveroneendofthezipper,matchinguptheshortedges,thensewthroughallthreelayers.Pressthefabricawayfromthezipper,thenrepeatthatwiththeothersideofthezipper(beingcarefulnottoletthezipperslidergetinyourway).

Yourzipperisnowreadytoinsertintoyourpocket.Beginbysewingittothe

bottomsectionofthezipperpocket.Sandwichit

betweenoneouterfabricpieceandoneliningfabricpiecewithrightsidesfacing.Lineuptherawedgewiththezippertape,thensewalongthatedgewitha1/4”seamallowance(usingazipperfootifyouhaveone).Pressthefabricawayfromthezipperwhenyoufinish.

Repeatthiswiththeothersideofthezipperandtheouterfabricandliningpiecesforthetopofthezipperpocket.Lineupallthreelayersandsewthroughthemwitha1/4”seamallowancejustasbefore.

Whenyourzippersectionisallnicelypressed,foldtheentirepocketinhalfwidthwisewiththeliningpiecesfacingeachother.Yourzippershouldrestalittlebitbelowthefoldline,sowhenyoubastethesideedgestogetheritmakesanicelittlepocket!

Nowyou’refreetobasteyourpocketstothemiddleofyourinnercase.Simply

lineupthebottomedgeofthepatternpocketalongthe

bottomedgeofthe“InnerCase–Middle”section.Layerthezipperpocketoverthat,again,liningupthebottomedge,andthenbastealltherawedgesinplace.

Thecaseisstartingtocometogether!Justalittlebitfurther:DTofinishthe

insideofthecase,you’llwanttojointogetheryourleft

andmiddlesections.Linethemupwithrightsidestogetherandsewthemalongtheedgesotheleftsectionisontheleftandthemiddlesectionisontheright.

Nowyoucanfinallyaddontheoutercase.Asyoucansee,Ifusedsomefleeceinterfacingtomyoutercasebecausemyfauxsuedewasratherflimsy.Ifyou’reusingaheavierfabricyoucanprobablyskipthatpart.Butallyouneedtodoislayeryouroutercaseoveryourinnercasewithrightsidestogether.Makesurethecontrastcornerpatchesarelinedupwiththe“InnerCase–Flap”sectiontobesurethattheplacementisright.Thensewaroundtheentireperimeterofthecase,leavinganopeninginthesideasthepatternindicatesforturningthecaserightsideout.

Trimyourseamallowancesandturnthewholecaserightsideout.Givethe

wholethingagoodironaroundtheedges,tucking

undertheopeninginthesidethatyoujustusedforturning.Thenyou’llwanttoedgestitcharoundtheentireperimeterofthecasetomaketheedgesneatandalsocloseuptheopeningyouleftinthecase.

Allthat’sleftistoinstallyourhardware!Simplyinstallthemetalsnaps

atthecornersofthecasewherethepatternguidelines

indicate.Thesocketsshouldbeinstalledontheoutsideofthecasealongtheblankcorners,whiletheprongsshouldbeontheinsideofthecasealongtheflapcornerswiththecapsontheothersidewherethecontrastcornerpatchesare.NowgofillupyourcasebecauseYOU’REDONE!
