our staff have for our residents, we

received a deficiency-free survey

from the state of Michigan’s

Department of Licensing and

Regulatory Affairs! This makes our

2nd year in a row!

The president of Ridgeline, Lisa

Shelton, came to visit us to announce

that their annual Rockstar winner

for 2016 was none other than our

very own Maintenance Director,

Kelvin W! Kelvin will experience a

5 night, all expenses paid, trip to

Margaretville! Congrats!

After receiving input from residents

and recommendations from staff,

I’ve promoted Resident Assistant,

Cindy M., to Activities Director.

Cindy has 10 years of Activities

Directing experience in a Nursing

Home. She has great ideas and a

huge heart for our residents. We are

excited to have her start this month!

I’m looking forward to an amazing

spring with all of you!

SPOTLIGHT RESIDENT WARREN M.Warren has lived in Memory Lane for two months. Walking into his apartment you see many beautiful paintings all made by him! We are lucky Warren shares his collection with us. Besides his artistic talent, we’ve learned Warren was born in Battlecreek, MI. His career as a Printer/Press Operator for Kellogs began humbly passing mail to Mr. Kellog. Warren proudly served his country in the Army. He enjoys bird watching, playing cards and attending religious services. We discovered he also likes to dance, as he cut a rug at our Sweethearts Dance last month! We are so very happy to have Warren as a part of our Brentwood family!

SAINT PATRICK’S DAY: THE HOLIDAY WHERE EVERYONE IS IRISH

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday which celebrates Saint Patrick on the 17th of March. Saint Patrick was one of the patron saints of Ireland credited with spreading the Catholic religion.

Many people wear a shamrock on the holiday to signify good luck. However, the roots of this tradition, it is said, come from St. Patrick using a shamrock to explain to the pagans the concept of the Holy Trinity. In the Catholic religion, the Holy Trinity is the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, which Christians know all stem from the same God. If you are wearing a shamrock on St. Patrick’s Day, it means that you can claim good luck or blessings on that day and for the rest of the year.

St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland with many businesses closing in observance. In other parts of the world, especially the U.S. and Canada, it is widely celebrated but is not an official government holiday.

Amazingly, St. Patrick’s Day began being celebrated here in the U.S., rather than in Ireland, with a parade in Queens, New York in 1737, well before the Revolutionary War.
