Municipal Agent Notes By John Sullivan

Lowering Blood Pressure with Beets & Beet Juice

A Study published in the May 2013 issue of the journal

Hypertension showed that beet-root juice significantly

lowered blood pressure in hypertension patients those

with abnormally high arterial blood pressure within

four hours. In fact, some people in the study saw their

blood pressure drop within two or three hours. The

overall effect lasted throughout the day. Beets have

been found to be a good source of dietary nitrate,

which indirectly leads to the formation of nitric acid.

This compound helps improve blood vessel flexibility

and lowers blood pressure. A recent review of beet

juice in the April 14, 2015 issue of Nutrients suggest

that drinking it regularly may enhance physical activ-

ity, reduce blood pressure, and improve cardiac

function.

Best Regards, John

Johns Tip of the Month

I understand that Costco, 75 Freshwater boulevard in

Enfield (860-394-2001) carries several good quality

hearing aid brands including Rexton, Bernafon, Re-

sound and their own Kirkland brand that sell for con-

siderably less than you would pay at the average hear-

ing aid dealer. You don't need to be a Costco

member to buy a hearing aid.
