In 2018 we will be able to help even more families escape domestic abuse by providing fostering for their much loved dogs. We will be joining forces with the Dogs Trust Freedom Project who presently provide a fostering service in Greater London, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire, and rolled out the service to the North East in October 2017. The Freedom Project follows the exact same procedures as Endeavour’s pet fostering service. We are both members of the National Links Group and adhere to the same policies to ensure that people escaping domestic abuse have access to temporary foster care for their family pets. Paws for Kids have provided pet fostering for the past 18 years and in this time we have seen a significant increase in requests for the service - particularly for fostering dogs - and have had an uphill struggle to meet demand. Dogs Trust have supported us for over 11 years with the provision of neutering vouchers for our fostered dogs. Joint working will help us ensure the continuation of a service to provide fostering for ALL pets belonging to survivors of abuse. Endeavour’s pet fostering will concentrate on cats, small furries, reptiles, birds etc., while the Dogs Trust will foster all dogs referred. We have not yet ironed out all the details, however we envisage that a newly recruited Dogs Trust worker will be based at our Bolton office, and work alongside our pet foster care coordinator to provide a joined-up service across the North West. There is always a high demand for the service and over the next few months we will be looking for volunteers particularly with experience of caring for cats or dogs. All the pets’ expenses will be covered by Dogs Trust or Endeavour, so this is a particularly rewarding volunteering opportunity for cat or dog lovers who aren’t able to own a pet on a permanent basis. Endeavour’s pet fostering service is looking forward to galvanizing our relationship with Dogs Trust to ensure all members of families both human and animal are able to live lives free from abuse. Money seized by Greater Manchester Police will support the Pets Service in 2018. GMP Bolton Division has decided to invest cash back into the communities of Bolton and this money has been allocated to the Police at Bolton under a government incentive scheme as a consequence of money that has been seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Bolton Police have awarded Endeavour Pets Service £2,000 from assets confiscated from convicted criminals, to ensure they have not profited from their crime. Cash and assets can also be recovered through civil hearings from people believed to be involved in, and who have benefited from criminality, but who have not been convicted of an offence. A police spokesperson explains; “Not only are criminals made to pay for their crimes in a court of law, they are made to pay financially, which in many cases is a much harder pill for them to swallow”. The £2,000 will be a welcome boost towards veterinary fees and general running costs of the Pets Service.

Bark to the future! Plans for joint working with Dogs Trust

Happy New Year everyone!

We are starting the year with some fantastic news... In 2018 we will be able to help even more families escapedomestic abuse by providing fostering for their muchloved dogs. We will be joining forces with the Dogs TrustFreedom Project who presently provide a fostering servicein Greater London, Hertfordshire and Yorkshire, and rolledout the service to the North East in October 2017.

The Freedom Project follows the exact same procedures asEndeavour’s pet fostering service. We are both members of theNational Links Group and adhere to the same policies to ensure thatpeople escaping domestic abuse have access to temporary fostercare for their family pets.

Paws for Kids have provided pet fostering for the past 18 years andin this time we have seen a significant increase in requests for the service - particularly for fostering dogs - and have had an uphill struggle to meet demand.

Dogs Trust have supported us for over 11 years with the provision of neutering vouchers for our fostered dogs. Joint working will helpus ensure the continuation of a service to provide fostering for ALLpets belonging to survivors of abuse. Endeavour’s pet fostering willconcentrate on cats, small furries, reptiles, birds etc., while the DogsTrust will foster all dogs referred.

We have not yet ironed out all the details, however we envisage that a newly recruited Dogs Trust worker will be based at our Boltonoffice, and work alongside our pet foster care coordinator to providea joined-up service across the North West.

There is always a high demand for the service and over the next few months we will be looking for volunteers particularly with experience of caring for cats or dogs. All the pets’ expenses will becovered by Dogs Trust or Endeavour, so this is a particularly rewarding volunteering opportunity for cat or dog lovers who aren’t able to own a pet on a permanent basis.

Endeavour’s pet fostering service is looking forward to galvanizing our relationship with Dogs Trust to ensure all members of familiesboth human and animal are able to live lives free from abuse.

The event held at Bolton University was attended by over 200 peoplewho watched a moving performance of ‘Lady in Red’ - the award winning play of one woman’s struggle to leave an abusive relationship. Here are some comments from members of the audience after the performance:

“An extremely powerful and hard hitting play, which gives a true accountof how domestic abuse impacts on the victim. I know many affected bythese issues, myself included, and this needs to be shown in everyschool, youth club and workplace all over the country. Thank you for giving voiceless people a voice”.

“This play was absolutely amazing. I was captivated from start to end!The issues were equally hard hitting, sensitive and upsetting. I lived in a violent household for 10 years as a child; I am ‘Gary’. Very best wishes for having the balls to pull this off so brilliantly despite the horrific subject matter. Thank you”.

“An amazing wonderful production that covered all aspects of domesticabuse. Keep up the fantastic work, you’re reaching many victims, givingthem options and their voice back!”

“A fantastic performance showing the impact domestic abuse has onpeople’s lives and how difficult it can be to leave - keep up the goodwork! Amazing!”

At Endeavour we strive to keep domestic abuse a top priority in Boltonand to ensure that anyone affected by domestic abuse - human or animal - can receive support and get the right help to empower them tostay safe. We are currently supporting 219 survivors across our projects.

As reported in our Autumn Newsletter, we held the AnnualReview of our work as part of Bolton’s 16-Days of ActionAgainst Gender-Based Violence. The event was opened byDonna Ball, Chair of Bolton Domestic Abuse Partnership andNick Peel, Executive Cabinet Member for Environment, whogave an overview of Bolton Council’s commitment to eradicate domestic abuse. Both were presented with a PetsService certificate sponsoring a dog on their behalf as a thank you for their kind support.

At Endeavour we recognise that domestic abuse does also affect men -and all our services accept referrals from male victims. However, the factremains that though some perpetrators of abuse may be women, a muchhigher percentage of perpetrators of abuse are men.

Last year, the theme for our annual event explored the issues of whywomen stay in abusive relationships. This year our aim was to get themessage out far and wide that domestic abuse in all its forms shouldnever be tolerated - highlighting the struggle women face in leaving anabusive relationship, and to raise awareness that help is available.

PawstBAGThose of you who scour the prize draw columnof Paw Prints to see if they have been lucky, may have been surprised to see that my namehas appeared 3 times in the last 6 months. Now you may look on this with suspicion! “Fix” you may be shouting! However, I doassure you I take no part in drawing the numbers - other than to adjudicate that all isbeing done fairly.

I have a theory why my luck may havechanged for the better… and it may be to dowith my Dad.

In 2016 my Dad passed away at the age of 91.Dad was an avid supporter of Paws for Kidsand extremely proud of the work we did, taking every opportunity to ‘show off’ our

achievements to family and friends. HoweverDad had 4 draw numbers in the 50/50 Club, and had done so since we started the drawback in 2006. Unfortunately Dad’s numbersrarely came out, and every month he asked“would it be his turn this month?” I assuredhim that’s not how it worked and numberswere drawn at random and participants werecertainly NOT given turns. Nevertheless Dadasked the same old question every monthabout “his turn”.

When Dad died I continued paying for his numbers and yes - you guessed it - it’s nowhis turn! So thank you Dad for persisting. Your winnings are always put to good use.

Before you look at the back cover, YES I havewon again - this time with my own numbers -but I still think Dad may have had a hand in it.

You can still join the 50/50 Club. StandingOrder forms are available by ringing the officeon 01204 394842 or by downloading a formvia our website www.endeavourproject.org.uk

50% of all funds raised goes back to the service- the more numbers bought by supportersmeans largercash prizesplus financial security forthe PetsService.

Once again businesses and individuals in Bolton haveproven that ‘charity really does begin at home’. Wealways aim to ensure that every child and survivorreceives a gift, have food and safe accommodation.

December saw a steadystream of parcels delivered to our offices and once againwe have been truly amazedand heartened by the warmgenerosity of local businesses, charities and individuals. A special thank you goes toAccountants CowgillHolloway, who once againdonated generously bybringing a large amount of presents to the office.

We would also liketo thank CowgillHolloway’s long-standing customerMark Hawthornand his team atBolton-basedLandmark Investments for their generous cheque.

Bolton Lions, Harwood Morrisons and ‘Wipe your Tears’ continued their support and made Christmas extra specialby providing a special gift for every child referred to theSafe Haven Project and IDVA Service.

A big thank you also goes to the many individuals whohelped Santa out by providing gifts and food - you knowwho you are. With all of your help every one of our families received presents to help make their Christmasextra special.

Going the extra mile at Christmas

Urban Outreach provided ‘ChristmasDinner on Jesus’ hampers for the familieswe work with who were most in need thisChristmas. Everything needed for a fullChristmas meal including extra treats likecrackers and chocolates which help tomake Christmas special. Your support and generosity is truly appreciated.

We also continue to receive donations from supporters as aresult of Endeavour’s publicity about its work, and through theFriends of Paws for Kids scheme.Friends receive a quarterly newsletter with updates and newsof the charity’s work. In the 2016-2017 financial year, we were alsoable to claim back £2,328.18 viaGift Aid on eligible donations.

We have also been able to utilise online donations via the ‘JustGiving’ website and the addition of a ‘Donate’ button on Endeavour’s website.

We have raised £4,165.69 with online giving in 2016-17. For the comingfinancial year 2017/2018, funding has been secured for the Safe HavenProject and IDVA Services. However further funding still needs to besecured for the continuation of the Pets Service, and to develop theYPDVA service.

At the end of this financial year we have funds in reserve which areheld to ensure the continued running of the charity and the further development of Endeavour.

Jean Thompson Treasurer

The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the current statutory requirements of the charity’s Memorandumand Articles of Association, and the requirements of theRevised Statement of Recommended Practice - Accountingand Reporting by Charities (SORP). Copies of the accountsare available on request.

The main sources of funding for 2016-2017 came from:

• The Big Lottery • Adult Services - Bolton Council • Bolton Community Safety & DCLG • The Home Office • Lloyds Bank Foundation • Impact Readiness Fund

This combination of funding has wholly funded the Safe Haven Project,YPDVA and IDVA Services and partly funded the Pets Service for thefinancial year to 31st March 2017. Additional funds towards the continued running of the Pets Service have been raised from:

• The Pet Plan Charitable Trust • The JA & F Smith Animal Charity Fund - Bolton Guild of Help • Easy Fundraising.org.uk

• Online donations via JustGiving

The monthly 50/50 Club draws and donations also help fund the PetsService. In 2016-17 we raised £13,550.68 from these sources.

We believe it is essential that the Pets Service continues and we hopethat the combination of small grants, gifts, donations and fundraisingwill help secure the future of all our pet fostering.

“We wanted to get on a mini break and afterfinding a dog friendly camping lodge I was then tasked with finding something I could dowith her. It tookages to find an activity to do but I am persistentand managed to book a canoeing session Icould take her on. This is when I realised thereis no central information point where you canfind adventures/activities or social days thatwould also include your dog.
