Please contact me or Mary Sanko if you are interested COMMUNITY PROJECTS ALETA BATTY The Pillowcase Project for the 2015-2016 year has already taken off with many members making them over the summer. The recipients are: Recycled Furniture for Needy Families, Home Sweet Home Mission, Neville House and Salvation Army Safe Harbor. Another way to know everyone is by meeting our guests and new members. We are reaching out for volunteers who enjoy meeting new people and making them feel welcome. You would show them around at the meeting, briefly explain the different committees, introduce them to members with similar quilting interests, invite them to sit with you, etc. In other words, make them feel welcome and part of our group!! I know you're thinking: "I would love to do that! I always wanted to be the "buddy" for the new student at school and now I can". Your title would be QBs, Quilting Buddies. Come and see us if you would like to help out, meet new quilters, have a title, and/or have questions. We NEED you! The mentoring program offers classes to teach you basic quilting skills or different quilting techniques. Each month you can come and just watch and listen or you can pick-up the supply list to do the monthly project. Our Guild is large and has many activities and opportunities open to all members. Whether you have been quilting for many years or you are new to quilting, the Mentor Program offers classes for you. Taking a mentor class is a great way to meet members of our Guild and to have a fun night out with other quilters. MYSTERY QUILT CHERYL ADAM, RUTH NOVOSAD & EVELYN YOUNG START SEEING GEESE! – 2015-2016 HAAQG MYSTERY QUILT Start Seeing Geese! This year’s Mystery Quilt is an exercise in accurately piecing basic Flying Geese sub-units that eventually transform themselves into a wonderful quilt. Our migration begins in September and we will arrive at our destination in February as we reveal Flying geese units fitted together into finished quilts. Our quilt designer, Miss Murkey, has written clear instructions for accurately piecing the Flying Geese Block. She advocates the traditional method using two squares sewn on a rectangle.. There are other methods and each method has its advantages and disadvantages. Connecting Threads has a nice tutorial on two methods to construct Flying Geese along with some helpful tips . Check it out! https://www.connectingthreads.com/tutorials/Flying_Geese-Make_em_fast-two_methods__D15.html Birds of a Feather! The flock is forming. Join us for take off as we begin our 6 month migration. There is no charge to participate in the Mystery Quilt Migration. We are happy to have you fly with us but we would like to know who is following us. Please complete the registration form below and return it to the Mystery Quilt Table at any guild meeting Did you know that Canadian Geese can travel more than 650 miles in a day? The first leg of our trip will be a lengthy one. Please don’t be put off! In addition to selecting your fabrics and cutting them into squares and rectangles, you will be making 160 Flying Geese units. As the instructions point out, it is important that you carefully trim away excess fabric under the triangles and that the finished flying geese unit measure 3 ½ x 6 ½ inches. Take your time. Sew accurately. Trim as necessary. Flap faster! You can join us at any time, but if you don’t begin in September you will need to flap your wings a little faster to catch up with us! Canadian Geese travel 30 to 55 miles per hour. The instructions will be posted on the HAAQG website each month and you are welcome to print copies. If you would like to receive a black/white printed copy of the instructions, please stop at the Mystery Quilt Table and register. There will be a nominal charge to cover printing costs. Are you Honked Off? If you are a Facebook user, a FB Page has been created for posting pictures, asking questions, and providing aid and assistance to your flock-mates. Once you register, you will have will be added to the FB group. Miss Murkey, Touloose Goose and Loosey Goosey will be posting tips and tricks, and sending out honks of encouragement. Like us on FB! That’s all for now, You will be meeting Miss Murkey, Touloose Goose , and Loosey Goosey in person goose at the September guild meeting. Until then, get those wings in shape!! Honk! Honk!! Honk!!

WEBSITE MARY WILKINS & CALLIE CUMMINGS We had hoped that the new website would be up and running by the September meeting. Unfortunately, there is still some work to be done. Callie and I have sent Keegan our specifications and design ideas. The website is scheduled to be completed in October. The information on the current website will be reorganized under the following headers. Home About Us Committee News Programs Quilt Show Join Us News and Events Contact Us Programs, Quilt Show and a map with our location and meeting hours will also have a prominent place on the home page. Callie and I would like the Committees to think about what information and pictures they would like included on the website. Please contact Callie or I if you would like to share your ideas or if you have any questions.
