WelcomeVisitor’s Guide

Hamilton was named one of the friendliest towns in America by Forbes magazine. Nestled into the quiet countryside, Hamilton and its surrounding communities have much to offer in the way of dining, lodging, specialty shops and antiques. Our flourishing arts and cultural scene features live music, national and inter-national lecturers, films, festivals, local artists and galleries. Our Village Green is a hot spot for weddings, concerts and one of the oldest farmer’s markets in the state every Saturday from May through October. Winter, spring, summer or fall, you’ll find lots of friendly smiles and plenty to do right here in the Chenango Valley. Come for the day or stay for the weekend and enjoy all that we have to offer!

Visit the Hamilton Welcome Center at 11 Payne Street, a few doors down from the Colgate Inn, to learn more.

Colgate University - Ranked among the best liberal arts colleges in the United States, many of Colgate’s facilities provide attractions for visitors to Hamilton.

Palace Theater - This unique performing arts center features national and international touring productions, as well as regional / community theater.

Hamilton Movie Theater - One of the few remaining independent theaters, providing diverse film programming, including first run feature films, Grand Operas in Cinema, and independent and foreign films.

Hamilton International Film Festival - A world-class festival of feature, indie, and documentary films, including numerous screenings, personal appearances by filmmakers and actors, receptions, talk-back sessions, charity functions, and more.

Native American Arts and Cultural Festival - This fall festival celebrates Native Ameri-can culture with performances of music and dance, art, food and archaeological demonstrations.

The Great Chocolate Festival - September 27, 1955 marked a unique moment in history for Hamilton. An O&W train was diverted from the main track, causing it to speed through a coal shed and crash to the ground. No one was injured, but chocolate was spilled everywhere! This festival commemorates that sweet moment in Hamilton history and is all about chocolate and trains with live music and family activities.
