The White House’s recently released College Score Card, ranked WKCTC’s average net price in the low range compared to other community colleges in the nation. The report added that individuals who graduate with an associate degree will make on average almost $5,000 more a year than individuals who only have a high school diploma.

West Kentucky has a long history of helping students achieve their dream by providing an array of options to fit student needs and foster student success. I hope you enjoy your visit with our college!

WKCTC’s Inland Logistics and Marine Institute Staff and Support

WKCTC’s Inland Logistics and Marine InstituteThe Inland Logistics and Marine Institute at West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) is located at 631 Marine Way in downtown Paducah, Kentucky, and offers industry certified online and on-campus classes as well as tailor made training and continuing education through Workforce Solutions.

In addition to providing a location for workforce training, the Institute also houses WKCTC’s logistics and operations management and marine technology programs. Students can earn an online Associate in Applied Science degree in Logistics and Operations Management or Marine Technology completely online, giving them the opportunity to rise above the crowd and expedite their career.

On August 10, 2015, WKCTC welcomed more than 200 people to the newly renovated, 8,000 square-foot facility, situated between local river businesses and Paducah’s downtown, includes classrooms, a state-

of-the-art radar lab, diesel lab, video lab and five offices. It is a hub for WKCTC’s marine technology and logistics and operations management programs, as well as tailor-made training and continuing education for the local river industry.

WKCTC has offered associate degrees in marine technology and logistics and operations management online for several years, but the U.S. Department of Labor awarded the college a $2.75 million grant in 2013 that has allowed it to further develop those programs as well as renovate and outfit the institute.

ILMI Director Troy Courtney said the Department of Labor grant was the spark needed to significantly grow WKCTC’s programs. Since receiving the grant in October of 2013, Courtney said their programs have touched over 700 students. He said the new video lab at the institute will enable WKCTC to

Page 7: Visitor's Guide 2015

PAGE 5PAGE 8

produce improved online content in-house and enhance students’ learning experience. Also, the college is converting its marine and logistics program offerings into learn-on-demand format, which allows online-only students even more learning flexibility.

To encourage continuing education, WKCTC has entered into an agreement with Murray State University that will allow ILMI students to transfer directly into MSU’s four-year logistics and supply chain management program after completing their first two years at WKCTC.

Another point of pride for the Inland Logistics and Marine Institute is a 3,000 horsepower, 40,000 pound, 17-foot-long diesel towboat engine donated by AEP River Operations for the college’s diesel lab. The enormous engine will allow students to get hands-on experience working with an actual diesel engine like they’d encounter on a typical river boat. The diesel lab also offers pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical instrumentation simulators.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College is a thriving, comprehensive community and technical college where more than 9,000 students annually change their futures with short-term training, programs geared to today’s workplace opportunities, or courses that will count toward a bachelor’s degree when they transfer.

The College offers more than 260 associate degree, diploma, and certificate options in more than 40 academic and technical programs. Students come first at WKCTC with flexible scheduling choices, convenient locations, and dedicated instructors committed to student success.

WKCTC MissionThe mission of West Kentucky Community and Technical College is to provide excellence in teaching and learning, promote student success, and support economic development.

WKCTC is nestled on 234 beautiful acres in Paducah’s north side and includes 18 separate buildings and three leased, off-campus facilities for a total of more than 665,000 square feet of facilities. In addition to the main campus on Alben Barkley Drive in Paducah, classes are offered at:

• Inland Logistics and Marine Institute at

631 Marine Way

• The Purchase Area Training Center in Mayfield

• The Mary Ellen Thompson Health Education Center

• The Weaks Community Center in Murray

• The Paducah School of Art and Design located at

409/413 Broadway and 919 Madison Street

• The Skilled Craft Training Center in Hickory
