Thanksgiving Day Football Game

The Golden Bears Football Team defeated Marple Newtown 28­20 on Friday night and will now play Academy Park for theDistrict 1 AAA Title! The game Friday evening against MarpleNewtown was truly a clash between two very good teams.After going up 7­0 early, Marple Newtown scored 17unanswered points. By half, the score was 20­14 in favor ofMarple. In the third quarter no team was able to find the endzone, but the 4th quarter was a different story for the Bears.Rodney Morgan, behind a stout offensive line, took over. Hewould score two more touchdowns, while accumulating a totalof 273 yards rushing for the game. At the same time, the Bearsdefense shutdown an explosive Marple offense in the secondhalf. Overall, this was an outstanding effort by the entire team. 

The  Annual  Thanksgiving  Game  is  cancelled  because  theUpper  Moreland  Golden  Bears  Football  Team  are  in  thePlayoffs!

2015 Fall Sports Update

Boys Soccer ­ The entire Boys SoccerTeam had a very competitive year. Coming into the season, the boys hadnot won a game in nearly 2 years.They finished the season with a 6­11­1record. Cross Country ­ Senior Maria Antoniadvanced to the PIAA Cross CountryState AA Championship meet and hada terrific 56th place finish. Field Hockey ­ Field hockey had aconvincing 4­0 win over LowerMoreland in the first round of PIAADistrict One AA Playoffs. In theQuarterfinal round of district playoffs,the girls ran into a dominant GwyneddMercy Team, losing 4­0. Despite theloss, the girls can be proud of theseason they had. They achieved adistrict playoff victory and defeatedWissahickon, who had dominated theconference for many years.  SeniorDelaney Smith was selected to play inthePhilafieldhockey.com Senior All­Star Game.  Girls Soccer ­ Girls Soccer competedin the first round of PIAA District OneAA Playoff for the first time in over 15years. Although the season is over, thegirls can hold their heads high for allthey have accomplished this season.

The Golden Bears Varsity Boys Football team advanced to thePIAA District One Championship Playoff game after an excitingwin over Marple Newtown Friday night. The Bears will  take onAcademy  Park  on  Friday,  November  27,  2015  at  7  pm  atPlymouth Whitemarsh  High  School.    All  tickets  are  $8.      GoBEARS!

A Spectacular Season for our Marching Unit!

The Upper Moreland Marching Unit had a remarkable,undefeated season in 2015 and were crowned the Cavalcadeof Bands State Champions in the Patriot Open division (Group5 Open) on November 14, 2015.  With a championships scoreof 97.7, the "UMMU" earned the highest score in the history ofthe marching unit and also posted the highest score of all 95bands that participated in the Cavalcade championships.  Their2015 show was entitled "Partners in Crime" and featured aunique musical and visual portrayal of the legendary crime duo,Bonnie & Clyde.  The 2015 marching unit is led by BandDirector Glenn Cowen, and Drum Major Samantha Harvey.

Upper Moreland Alumni have been making news acrossthe country!  

Class of 1994 grad Jonathan Jones recently won two Emmysfor the PBS Frontline/ProPublica in­depth documentary,"Firestone and the Warlord." The film, which looked at the       Firestone tire company's actions during the Liberian Civil War,won an Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Journalism­Form and asecond Emmy for Outstanding Research. Earlier this year, theRobert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights named,"Firestone and the Warlord," the winner of an 2015 RFK JournalismAward in the new media category. 

Chris Ulmer, Class of UMHS 2007 has been spotted on severalnetworks including ABC News for his career as a Special EducationTeacher.  Chris started a class blog that openly discussed each

diagnosis of his students. Fully awarethat this was unheard of and couldcause complications for his career, hedid not care.  He felt the need for hischildren heard, loved andappreciated. The blog can be foundon Facebook at Special Books bySpecial Kids. Heather Salazar, graduated fromUMHS in 2003 and needs yourhelp. Heather is a young PH.Dstudent who in February of thisyear, was severely burned during a

house fire. Heather is trying to pay her current medical bills,but her treatment will still continue for an additional 12­18months.  Any assistance will help her alleviate some of thefinancial burden from her injuries. Family and friends have setup a fundraiser for her ­ Any donations received are greatlyappreciated.

Celebrating Their 50th Reunion

Earlier this month, the Class of 1965 celebrated their 50th Reunionat Talamore!  What a memorable and special event for everyone!
