Page 1 The ‘sangs and clatter’ of a Burns Supper For all his adult life, Robert Burns was a Freemason. In fact, he was the Senior Warden of Lodge St Andrew in Dumfries at the time of his death at the age of only 37. So, around the time of his birthday, lodges all over the world celebrate the life and works of the bard. Several in Gloucestershire join in the fun; perhaps by introducing ‘haggis, neeps and tatties’ at the festive board or, as Western Tideway Lodge here demonstrates, having a full-blown special occasion with the lassies invited. Right: WM John Vowles and Treasurer Dave Mountford, used the occasion to present Alan Gilbertson (centre) with a cheque for £1,000, in aid of the Hall Extension Fund. Haggis, neeps and tatties!

“But mark the rustic, haggis-fed!” For more than twenty years, Hambrook Lodge has held a Burns Night at the January meetings. These have proved so popular that a ‘Lassies supper’ on a Saturday was organised by DC, Will Durman, and it has now become a regular addition to the calendar. WM, Nick White, raised over £500 during the evening towards his chosen charity, MacMillan Cancer Support. Right: Nick provides a humorous welcome.
