THE AMHERST CITIZEN J U N E 1 4 , 2 0 1 1 w w w . a m h e r s t c i t i z e n . c o m Think of us as your Personal Chef  Nicholas Puppolo, son of Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) David and June Puppolo of Amherst, has been accepted into the US Army’s Warrant Officer Flight program.  He will begin helicopter aviation training in late August, at Fort Rucker, Alabama.  Pup- polo, a 2007 graduate of Souhegan High School, has served 4 years in the 75th Ranger Regiment, an elite special opera- tions unit, and has had multiple deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. Amherst Resident in Uniform Monday, July 4th, 2011 July 4th will soon be upon us and plans are in place for the residents of Amherst to get together once again to celebrate our country’s indepen- dence. e celebration will begin the evening of July 3rd with the pa- rade to follow on the 4th as always. e theme for the 2011 parade is Traditions in Amherst. Events will include fireworks sponsored, once again, by the Gran- ite State Credit Union, music, hot air balloon rides, a magician, a car- icaturist, a Tarot Card Reader, and food at Souhegan High School on the 3rd and the parade on Monday morning in the village with bands, floats, puppy parade, mini en- tries, antique cars, N.H. Regiments, marchers, clowns, and more. e children’s bicycle parade will begin at Knight’s Field on Main Street and precede the town parade. e po- litical part of the parade is expected to feature local and state candidates. Events on the village green will in- clude a reviewing stand ceremony, children’s games, booths of local organizations, food, antique auto- mobiles, an Art Show, craft demon- strations, and a dog show. e final schedule will be posted on the town website and printed in the next edi- tion of the Citizen. Anyone interested in being in the parade, having a spot on the village green (non-profit organizations) , or helping with the activities should contact Nancy Head, 673-1389 or [email protected]. e com- mittee is in need of volunteers who can give an hour or two of their time during the event to help make this a fun celebration for everyone. Dogs on Parade e dogs of Amherst love a parade, and we love to see the dogs in the parade! Please join us at Spalding Field (the corner of Foundry Street and Davis Lane) on Monday, July 4th at 9:50 a.m. ere will be a prize for the most patriotic or best dressed dog. We will join in the parade and march on to the reviewing stand at the Green. If you would like to march with us, please contact Mary Beyers by email at [email protected] or by telephone at 672-7835. Innovative and classic materials will inspire with ideas you can incorpo- rate into your own garden. e tour offers all this and an op- portunity to have a nice day with family or friends, driving the coun- try roads of Amherst, getting a glimpse of rarely seen private gar- dens, and to revel in the beauty of nature both cultivated and wild. e tour offers an optional bag lunch and there is a gardener’s boutique with items sure to delight. Kate and a friend will have the honor of riding in the parade and of being recognized from the podium at which time she will re- ceive the $25.00 prize. Pins will go on sale July 3rd at the Souhegan High School during the evening festivities and again on July 4th on e Common. e price of the pin is $3.00 or 2 for $5.00. If any vintage pins are available, the price for them will be $4.00. All proceeds from the sale of the pins goes to the 4th of July Committee to help de- fray the cost of the activities on the 3rd and 4th. e Town of Amherst invites owners of Antique and Classic cars, 25 years and older, to participate in our upcoming parade begin- ning 10am on July 4th. To address some past overheating problems, this year we will start ONLY Pre- war Antiques across from the Clark school at the Cemetery. e Classic and newer cars line up across from Wilkins School as in the past. Car owners are encouraged to Pre-reg- ister by email or phone. Please email [email protected] or call 801- 4389 with your name, Auto year, make and model, and insurance company. ere is a limit of 50 cars in the parade so pre-registration is encouraged. If you are unable to Pre-register we will get your info when you arrive. e purpose is so your name and auto can be correct- ly announced as you drive past the Amherst Green reviewing stand. Cars will kindly assemble at 8:30- 9:30 and note your position in line depends on when you arrive. ere will be 6 fun prize categories for cars with blue ribbons and photos in next months CITIZEN and other local papers. Period outfits to match your car are encouraged. Remem- ber there is no throwing of candy from the cars anymore. ere will be special parking areas at the end of the parade for all cars We look forward to good weather and a great turnout as always at this festive event See you there ! July 4th will soon be upon us and plans are in place for the residents of Amherst to get together once again to celebrate our country’s indepen-dence. The celebration will begin the evening of July 3rd with the pa-rade to follow on the 4th as always. The theme for the 2011 parade is Traditions in Amherst.

Events will include fireworks sponsored, once again, by the Gran-ite State Credit Union, music, hot air balloon rides, a magician, a car-icaturist, a Tarot Card Reader, and food at Souhegan High School on the 3rd and the parade on Monday morning in the village with bands, floats, puppy parade, mini en-tries, antique cars, N.H.
