CLEAN UP SCHOOLS DAY This year Schools Clean Up Day, which is part of the annual Clean Up Australia program will be held on Friday 1st March. Although we have a relatively small amount of litter around our school it is important for students to be involved in community

activities that encourage caring for the environment. Students will spend a small part of the Friday cleaning up the school grounds or streets that adjoin our school.. K-2 students will clean up the school grounds and Years 3 to 6 students will clean up the grounds surrounding the school. As the primary students will be leaving the school grounds for this community service project they will need to return the permission note handed out by their class teacher to participate.

HIGHLANDS SWIMMING CARNIVAL This Friday 1st March, Gundagai Public School swimming team will compete at the Highlands District Carnival being held at the Tumut pool. The carnival will commence at 9.30 am sharp and students will be travelling by private car. Students are responsible for ensuring they are at the pool on time and have reported to Mr Mastellotto on arrival. Mr Mastellotto is our school team convenor and all queries should be direct to him. Good luck to Ruby Turner, Zoe Smart, Leah Lyall, Eadyn Lindley, Evie Jones, Jack Lindley, Gilbert Crane, Boston Hayne, Cooper Bartlett, Cain Turner, Nicholas McMurray, Claire Lindley, Deanna Smith. Jorja Lenehan, Isabella Rose, Jessica Fitzgerald, Archie Wheaton, Zac Scott, Nicholas Tait, Halle Smart, Holly Deckers, James Bartlett, Bailey Piper, Gus Pollack and Abe Cotterill.

PARENT TEACHER EVENING. Our Term One Parent Teacher Meetings, for students in Years 1 to 6 is being held on Tuesday 5th March from 3.30 to 7.00 pm. This is a great opportunity for you to touch base with your child’s teacher and exchange information, gain a clearer understanding of class routines and discuss specific strengths and weaknesses either you or the teacher may have identified. Appointments can be made by returning the form sent home last week or contacting our office.

SAFETY IN OUR SCHOOL

Your child’s safety is of paramount importance and we strive

to make school a happy and safe place every day. We have a

number of procedures in place that you can help us with

keeping them safe and it would be appreciated if you could

take your time to familiarise yourself with these.

Visitor sign on procedures

You are always welcome at GPS, however it is essential that all visitors to school sign-in on arrival and

sign-off on your departure.Parents who are at school briefly to collect their children do not need to sign

on or if you are attending a whole school function, however if you are in the school for any other

activities for more than 10 minutes you need to sign-on. It is essential that we know who is in the school

for two very important reasons: 1. In case of an emergency evacuation or lock-down. 2. To adhere to

child protection requirements.

The sign on book is located in the foyer outside the office.

Working With Children Check (WWCC)

If you are volunteering for the school for things such as the canteen, assisting with sporting events,

helping in the classroom or fund raising it is important that you have a working with children check. It

is free and easy to apply. You can click on the link below or ask at the front office and we are happy to

help. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-working-children-check

The front office will keep a copy of your WWCC on our files.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up zones for cars

The staff car park can be a very busy place with staff cars and delivery trucks coming and going. We

emphasis again that children and their parents are not to walk through the car park but use the

designated pathways.

We have designated departure points for children to use at the end of the school day. Teachers are on

duty at the points each afternoon. eg bus lines, top car park pick up zone, bottom cola zone and

walkers line. Sometimes there is a change to routine. This only happens if the school has had parent

confirmation about the changes to normal routine. It is really important that everyone adheres to these

procedures so that all students depart the school safely.

Emergency contact details.

Thank you parents for updating emergency contact and medical details for 2019. It is important to

advise us as soon as possible, if these details change during the year.

Medicine

If your child is required to take medication whilst at school it must be sent to the office and not remain

in their school bags. Parents must supply specific instructions with the medication by either note or

phoning the office. Medication is to be in the original packaging with the childs name and instructions.

Returning Notes

To help streamline this system, all notes being returned by students are to be handed in to the class

teacher at the beginning of the school day. Parents may reutrn notes directly to the office. Again

returning notes by the due date is essential and to assist with organistion we ask you to adhere to this

please.

P&C News The P&C will be holding

their AGM, followed by an

ordinary meeting this

Monday 25th February

2019 commencing at 7.00

pm at school.

Please come along and

get involved in your

school. We need you.

More voice means more

ideas. More hands means less work. You will

not have to take on any role that requires

commitment.

Lots of planning around the COLOUR RUN

will take place so if you have some great

ideas, would like to get involved in the school

or meet new people this would be a great

meeting to attend.
