GUMPS
for the pilot
Gas refers to the fuel tanks.
Select the one that is fullest.
Undercarriage means the
landing gear. Make sure that it is lowered.
Mixture is the fuel/air ratio.
Set the mixture to full rich.
Prop /Pitch /Power. Unfeather the
props and apply power.
Speed refers to air speed.
Hold the indicator at approach velocity.
GUMPSThe best pilots always follow a checklist.
And a checklist is best remembered as a pnemonic.
The oldest and most popular is GUMPS. The letters
stand for 5 words you should repeat to yourself, aloud,
as you make your final approach to the runway.
